Have the effects of the big freeze already begun? The big freeze refers to the week between Christmas and New Year's, so no.

The top 6 are all losing spins and 8 of the top 10 are declining. Radio really needs to start playing some new stuff!

Could we have two more Hot 100 number ones before the end of the calendar year? I'm thinking The Monster either this week or next followed by Unconditionally.

I doubt that Unconditionally ever reaches #1... It's played on radio by default basically, not because it's a good song. Video should help for a week or two though.

Jk, but if The Monster reaches its peak Unconditionally will need a huge digital sales lead to top its airplay, and when the video comes out... LTWYL was one of the most viewed videos ever. It still has chance, but eventually it'll reach #1.

I doubt that Unconditionally ever reaches #1... It's played on radio by default basically, not because it's a good song. Video should help for a week or two though. Roar was much worse even though this one sucks, too. Unconditionally would have probably gone #1 the week after the AMAs if they premiered the video on 11/25 (it premieres next Tuesday.) Her team has already started with the billboards and everything: + the song is featured in the commercials for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2013. I'm sure that Capitol will go to extremes to make it a #1 hit. Firework was doing very poorly on iTunes before the AMAs performance back in 2010 so this could still take off.

Katy will have pretty stiff competition with The Monster, Counting Stars, and even Timber though. Capitol might have to resort to the cheap 2010/2011 discount/remix tactics to get that #1.

I'm personally not that concerned about getting #1 songs. I'm more interested in overall sales, so if Unconditionally misses number 1, but stays in the top 5 for a while, I'll be satisfied.

I don't think Unconditionally will get to #1. I just think if it was heading for #1 it'd be higher on iTunes right now. Like with Royals, it was really high on iTunes for its airplay, even in its early days. Maybe #2 like Wide Awake (her label aren't going to be "desperate" to get it to #1).
I think Royals will be #1 for a bit longer, then The Monster for the rest of the year.
