#1 in UK midweeks with a very healthy lead on LP.
She should finish with around 50-60k there for the week. Not as huge as the 120k that BTD opened with, but she doesn't have the colossal hype there or hits that the first one did, plus the market there has taken a huge hit in the past 2 years.

Bought this today for $10.41 since Newbury Comics had a 25% all items in the store, including things on sale and Lana was on sale for $13.88 to begin with. YAY for getting the deluxe so cheap. I will download that Target deluxe song somewhere. Anyway, I can't wait til I get home to settle into this album. I have been waiting so long!

Slightly disappointed with the album. It could've been worse, I guess, seeing as how Lana thought the album was finished before she started working with Dan Auerbach. Those first five songs in particular are some of her best, but it all goes downhill once those synths at the end of "West Coast" disappear. There's a lot of subtle touches on the tracks that follow (like the isolated guitar riffs during the first verse of "Sad Girl", for example) that I can only appreciate to an extent. "Black Beauty" and even "Guns and Roses" are exciting enough to recapture my interest, but they're simply six songs too late.
I only really like half of Born to Die anyway so I'm not exactly surprised to feel the same way about Ultraviolence, which has the likely chance of growing on me.

170-190k is the official prediction from HITS.
Born to Die debuted at #2 with 77k (1.06m to date).
Paradise debuted at #10 with 67k (335k to date).

Wow. Talk about coming into one's voice. She sounds fantastic on this album and even though it's fairly slow and melancholy, I really feel her. I like the production on the first album, but her vocals and feeling better on this album but to me, they are companion pieces and hard to separate. Paradise served as the perfect transition, as well.

I still don't love it as much as Born To Die but I truly haven't listened to anything else since yesterday. The album cycles on repeat. Even the songs I'm not in love with I play just to...I don't know, get or something.

Active Aggressive hit the nail on the head a few months back in saying that BTD was capturing lightening in a bottle. I for one was not expecting Ultraviolence to be anything close to what that album was and I can really appreciate it for what it is. It's quality.

I'll need time to sort through this, but I enjoyed it. The track that really hit me the most was Old Money, it's just so stunningly beautiful.

#WhereWillLanaBe? ???
Florida Kilos is a mess. If Harmony Korine was involved in the Spring Breakers sequel, it would definitely be on the soundtrack or heavily featured in the film. Alas, he just contributed lyrics to this thing, the one weak spot on the album. Black Beauty should have made the standard track list. Born To Die was my favorite album of the year. The only song I didn't really care for was Carmen but I never really skipped it and the other surrounding songs were just so incredible and special. On this album, my standouts so far are: Cruel World, Brooklyn Baby, Wesht Coasht, Money Power Glory, Fucked My Way Up To The Top, Old Money, and Black Beauty.

Shades of Cool has really grown on me. Didn't quite click at first, but now I definitely think it's an album highlight. My top 5 as of now are:
1. West Coast 2. Brooklyn Baby 3. Shades of Cool 4. Old Money 5. Money, Power, Glory
Still about 5 songs on the album I just can't get into though. Carmen is the only song I never cared for on BTD. Also why is this album so sleepy? I mean Lana's ballads can be gorgeous, and some of them are on here, but this is too subdued overall.

It sounds like she gave him the answer that she knew he was looking for because how she discusses the second part of his question is rather nonchalant and almost has a tone of mockery like ok you are going to ask me a question like that let me throw in a bit of truth and a bit of what I know you want to hear.

So...I've listened to the album 3 times. It's very slow, soothing, and moody. Only a few songs/lyrics stick out to me right now and they are "Shades Of Cool", "Brooklyn Baby", "West Coast", "Florida Kilos", "F**ked My Way To The Top", "Old Money", "Guns & Roses", and "Black Beauty".

Fucked My Way Up To The Top is probably my favorite because it reminds me most of something from BTD but yeah, this album had to sink in. It's a solid A- to BTD's A+.

I've not listened to this album once, but I bought the physical CD today and I intend to listen to it more. It's good on first listen, but many of the songs haven't stuck with me just yet.
Favorites So Far:
01. Ultraviolence 02. West Coast 03. Brooklyn Baby (It has really grown on me) 04. Old Money 05. Money Power Glory 06. Shades Of Cool

The entire thing has really come together for me lately...it's much closer to BTD for me now. Just so beautiful and bleak. And "Cruel World" is actually the perfect opening song. "The Other Woman" is really the only track I can't get behind. Sonically it just doesn't fit, and I'm not even sure it gels thematically.

Happy b'day to the original elusive chanteuse. God bless her!
After letting the album sink in to me I think my favorites are
1) West Coast (+ the radio edit. Don't get why most fans hate it; I absolutely love it!) 2) Ultraviolence 3) Brooklyn Baby 4) Old Money 5) Money Power Glory 6) Florida Kilos
I'm starting to really get into it and I'm sure it'll soon give me the goosebumps Born To Die still gives me 2.5 years later.

I knew there was something about Old Money that was a bit familiar. The melody for the verses of "Old Money" come from the love theme to the 60s film of Romeo & Juliet. Does anyone else's version of "Brooklyn Baby" crackle in the second chorus? I have a physical copy.

I'll give it a solid B. It's good but not as good as BTD. There are songs i skip every time which wasn't the case with the first album.
