"Good Ride Cowboy" debuted at #18 on Billboard, I believe, which at the time was the record for highest debut. Keith Urban then broke that record with "Once In A Lifetime" when it opened at #17, and Kenny Chesney bested that with a #16 debut for "Don't Blink". Then of course Garth came along and made sure he'd have the record permanently. Good Ride Cowboy's #18 debut set the record for highest debut in the BDS era and tied the record going back to 1973, when the chart expanded to 100 positions (Eddie Rabbitt's Every Which Way But Loose debuted at #18 in 1978). The all-time highest debut at the time (tied later by Kenny Chesney's Don't Blink) was a Buck Owens song debuting at #16 in the 1960s (I don't recall the song or year). Garth himself had come close one time previously, debuting at #19 in 1991 with The Thunder Rolls. Once Kenny set the modern record and tied the all-time record it took Garth all of one week to guarantee that the record will never be broken.

Country 92.5 (WWYZ) posted "We just received a brand new ORIGINAL song from #GarthBrooks! We'll play it in less than 3 minutes... Listen here: www.iheart.com/live/445/" i'm assuming they played The Call. I tried to scramble to get to hear it but I'm pretty sure I missed it. ETA: Writers: Karyn Rochelle and Cory Batten Has this been played by anyone else?

Big Frog 104 has little thing bout the song on their website ( LINK) I'm not sure if the live recording of the song is being released to radio or if a studio version is being or has been released to radio. Country 92.5 Morning DJ Broadway said that they were trying to get the audio up on the morning show blog but nothing has appeared yet.

I've enjoyed a lot of Garth's music, but I'm a lot more interested in hearing from Trisha. Just seeing her name attached to this song made me have to go play I Don't Paint Myself Into Corners Anymore. I hope she can use this duet as a way of returning to country radio, not that it's likely. She was one of my favorite artists of the 90's. I completely agree with this. Trisha is one of my 2 or 3 favourite artists of all time, and I'd love to see her return to country radio somehow. She does seem to have a lot of goodwill right now with her cooking career, so hopefully she can turn some of that career momentum towards radio. I at least hope we get an album next year - her recent comments to Country Weekly sounded promising in that respect, so we'll see what happens.

Amazing duet. Garth and Trisha should do click musically.
Is the call going to be released as a official single?

Country music is in a sad state today. I asked some co-workers to listen to the song and they did and really liked it. The problem was when they asked who the woman was singing and I said it's Trisha Yearwood and they all stared blankly back at me. These are your typical country listeners now and it's really kind of sad. Do today's listeners think of 90s country the same way I think about 70s country (sounds entirely different, not my cup of tea)? Maybe it's a generational gap thing.

It would not surprise me in the least to see a Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood duet CD released in 2014. If they are going to be touring together, they should be releasing new music together.

It wouldn't shock me (and pretty sure everyone here) to see a Garth/Trisha record. As for touring together, I know there were talks but I doubt that will happen till mid-late 2014.
Trisha announced a handful of dates on the 3rd: February 19, 2014 - Fort Lauderdale, FL at Broward Center for the Performing Arts February 20, 2014 - Clearwater, FL at Ruth Eckerd Hall February 22, 2014 - Orlando, FL at Seaworld February 27, 2014 - East Lansing, MI at Cobb Great Hall - Wharton Center February 28, 2014 - Joliet, IL at Rialto Square Theatre March 1, 2014 - Prior Lake, MN at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel March 2, 2014 - Sault Sainte Marie, MI at Kewadin Casino - Dream Makers Theater March 12, 2014 - New Brunswick, NJ at State Theatre March 13, 2014 - Lancaster, PA at American Music Theater March 14, 2014 - Westbury, NY at Theatre at Westbury March 15, 2014 - Mashantucket, CT at MGM Grand at Foxwoods March 27, 2014 - Durant, OK at Choctaw Casino Event Center March 28, 2014 - Bossier City, LA at Horseshoe Bossier City - Riverdome March 29, 2014 - Midland, TX at Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center April 2, 2014 - Wabash, IN at Honeywell Center April 4, 2014 - Robinsonville, MS at Gold Strike Casino - Millennium Theatre April 5, 2014 - Marksville, LA at Paragon Casino - Mari Center April 11, 2014 - Windsor, ON at Caesars Windsor - The Colosseum April 12, 2014 - Orillia, ON at Rama
If those all of a sudden became Trisha/Garth dates I'd lose my mind with excitement! It wouldn't surprise me if Garth is there at some of the shows.
As for radio has anybody heard a station play the song yet?

Probably June (I imagine he'll get a major CMA Fest slot for one of the nights). She can and will tour with Garth as one of his acts (I'd bet he picks some others too). "The Call" is a good song but the version sent (I was sent it) is definitely the live one.

I'm pretty excited for this as well. I wonder if Garth is bringing in his own promotion team or if he's partnering with Big Machine again? It's being sent by UMG Nashville servers on MPe so I'm guessing he'll be utilizing the UMG Nashville teams for promo of new materials.

2014 is going to be a huge year for Garth, his fanbase has stuck around, his tour will be huge and if he releases a new album, its going to be one heck of a comeback year.

That's about 45 minutes/ an hour from me, so I'll definitely get tickets for that one. It'd be cool if Garth is there too, but I'm really happy to see Trisha again.

The King of Country couldn't have come back at a better time. Remind us why we fell in love with country music, Garth! King of "Country" ?. I will admit that Garth had some really incredible songs. The Dance, Unanswered Prayers, The River, and more, but Garth is also one of earlist contributors to the mess we have now in Country Music. I credit him with the beginning of the end of country music, as it was before and should be now. never to fully recover. I find it hard to look at him as a "country" singer. Although, compared to today, maybe not so far fetched. :):)

Although, compared to today, maybe not so far fetched. :):) Eh, I'm not so sure. He was part of that great class of '89 with Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Travis Tritt, and (one of my favorites) Suzy Bogguss that really helped mold early to mid-90s country music to what it ended up being (which is AWESOME). Sure Garth had the huge shows and TV specials showing that he could rile up a crowd, but he wasn't really pumping out single after single that would be considered pop or rock. He had that weird Chris Gaines thing that nobody really understood, but I don't think that was the point of this reasoning. If anything I'd say Brooks & Dunn were doing it rowdier than Garth, and I don't believe for a second they were the culprit either. If I had to put my finger on where things started to really turn, I'd say maybe Shania/Faith/Lonestar (post John Rich) and even Toby Keith of the early 2000s. It might be a personal taste thing to me, but How Do You Like Me Now was a defining negative turning point in my opinion of Toby Keith's career. I think it's just a cyclical thing anyhow but I would argue that the reasons for the way music is now is not the fault of Garth. Even his rockiest songs like Ain't Goin Down would be considered too country by many today.

Garth brought money into country music in a way nobody else did before him, and lots of the problems of country radio, and country music more broadly, are a reflection of the problems associated with big money.
It's hard to "blame" that on Garth. It would have happened, the money was there to be made and someone would have figured out how to do it -- and I don't see why that's anybody's "fault."
As for how "country" Garth can be considered -- he was faithful to the important country concept of "story songs" and he recorded a lot of them. That's in his favor. You can make some arguments against as well, but I'm not going to do that. On balance I'm happy that he's coming back -- at least, I am now, without having heard the kind of music he's going to make. I think he'll help improve what badly needs improvement. He'll be in a position to, anyway. We'll see what he does.
If he's got 6 songs on his first album about painted-on jeans and the rumps they came in on, I will retreat to the mountains of Ohio.

Did "Good Ride Cowboy" go #1 on Mediabase? Yes. The week before Christmas in 2005. It replaced "Come A Little Closer", and got replaced by "Must Be Doin Something Right" during the hold over weeks.

I just caught this on the radio, so they sent out the live version for play? I know info is very limited, but is that the only version they're sending out or will there be a studio version to follow?

Amazing. I think No Fences is second to only Come On Over for weeks at #1. Come On Over spent 50 weeks at #1 in four different years, the ONLY CD to do so: 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Here are the top 25 country albums according to their stay at #1. Ready? 1. Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury-1997-50 2. Always & Forever-Randy Travis-Warner Bros.-1987-43 3.
