Anyone surprised that this song didn't debut very high or is struggling right now considering it's Garth Brooks? Wonder if Garth's absence is a contributor to this or has radio turned off of Garth all together?

Wonder if Garth's absence is a contributor to this or has radio turned off of Garth all together? Neither. He's not actively promoting it. He has no hired promo team. They simply sent it to radio digitally (in a live version). Can't write his radio career off until he does a full-court-press and nothing happens.

Exactly what Matt said. There is only a live version out there right now, and there is no label/promo team currently working this to radio. Garth just released it via his own Pearl Records, just like he did the entire box set. The radio 'blitz' will get lined up soon I am sure, but not until after the New Year.
Everything we've seen so far is a good sign. This debuted in the top 50 based off radio's interest alone and not any promotion at all.

I hope Trisha's new album is out soon - does anyone know what label she's on?? the Heaven and Heartache (Power of Love) album was amazing and I still love it! :)

Trisha Yearwood announced she was no longer with Big Machine, so as to which label she is on now is anyone's guess (if she is on one).

The singles were great, but there were so many excellent album tracks as well ("Nothin' Bout Memphis", "Let The Wind Chase You", "Cowboys Are My Weakness", etc.). Even though it didn't do all that well, I'm so glad it was released because I think it's probably Trisha's best collection of songs. I haven't heard for sure, but I imagine that her new album coming out soon will be with Pearl Records. I'm hoping that the studio version of "The Call" will be sent out to radio the first week of January. The live version slid back to #51 this week, but that's understandable since there's been no promotion at all.

I may have interpreted Garth's answer wrong here in this Q&A in the Dec. 16 issue of Country Aircheck, but I took it as the live version is the only version of the song. I'd love a studio one though.

We'll say The Call makes it to #1. I will be able to update Garth Brooks' #1s to 20 and he will stay at #20 on the list and Trisha Yearwood's chart toppers to six. She will move from #113 to #96. That would be a nice update to do.

Wade Jessen got the details about the Box set wrong though, lol. It's 6 CDs (4 new 'covers' discs and the double "Ultimate Hits" collection) and 2 DVDs (Wynn show and Video Hits disc). With sales over 750k, he's basically up to 4x Platinum just on discs alone w/this set. If they choose DVDs to add, he's even higher. It's insane that such a box set is even this successful and showcases how much power Brooks still has over fans buying his music, even if it's only available in CD format at Walmart for $25.

It looks to me like they're going to let this song go. On tonight's Billboard chart, it lost a good chunk of audience and about 25% of its total spins from last week. I was hesitant all along that they would go with this as his comeback single. He has said he's coming back with a new studio album this year as well so I think the actual comeback single for radio will come from that.
But this was top 50 alone based purely on radio's interest. It was a live version and they never promoted it. Garth is on his own Pearl Records and it remains to be seen who he'll get to do the radio promotion stuff or if he'll bring that in house a la Zac Brown Band.

Seems odd they're letting it go so early instead of promoting it.

Seems odd they're letting it go so early instead of promoting it. That's what I was saying, though--I don't think the idea was to ever promote this as the comeback single. It charted basically because of radio's interest alone. Garth did make the live version of this song available to some radio folks, but I think it was just meant to be a sort of 'teaser' type of release, and I expect that the real comeback single will still come out soon and it will be on a new studio album. Then again, I could be wrong, and they could still run with this. That would just mean that its 'stalling' is only due to the fact that they don't have the radio promotion ironed out yet. The original announcement did say Garth would be going on a big radio tour like most new artists do. Basically I just think we're still in a "wait and see" mode, at this point.

The Call is certainly not the chart burner I thought it would be.

This fell off of the chart this week. It looks like jhomes87 is right, and that they aren't going with this as the comeback single. I had hoped that it would get higher than it did, even if it wasn't intended to be a single at all, since it's the first new Garth or Trisha song we've had in a long, long time. We'll see if it can slip back on, but so far #49 looks pretty certain to be its peak.
