At first I thought this might be slower than usual compared to Mediabase, but upon comparing to the matching chart - not so much.
Do you know for sure if this is to be the last regular countdown of 2013? I'm anticipating that it will be, and 2014 will start with January 4. (The earliest year start is actually January 3, which happened in 2009.)

So that would mean one more regular chart next week (with "Demons", most likely, taking over #1), the top 40 of 2013 for the weekends of 12/28 and 1/4 (if they're continuing to take two holiday weeks), and regular charts resuming the weekend of 1/11.

Two weeks made more sense when they did the top 100, or had another countdown (like a decade-end one) to play. If it's just the top 40 or 50 of 2013, then one week should be enough without a rerun.

^ Indeed, 12/21 being a regular countdown makes me wonder if they're going to start implementing that this year.

I always thought the idea of playing the same chart (albeit with different extras) two weeks in a row was kind of dumb. If anything, it gave me an excuse to take a week off (why would I want to listen to the same thing, twice?). I still long for the days when we'd get to hear the whole top 100 for the year. Wish we could have that back.

(The earliest year start is actually January 3, which happened in 2009.) Katy Perry will guest host the 12/21/13 countdown (the second time she's hosted AT40). I'm sure they wouldn't have a guest-hosted year end show. Maybe that does mean the year end countdown will be only played once. I don't know, but Katy's show does give Ryan the week off which the last few years was filled with a year-end replay.

I really hope that they only play the year end Top 40 only once. Doing it twice doesn't really make any sense. I, too, miss the years when we could hear The Top 100 songs of the year. I don't know why they shortened it to 40.
Katy Perry guest hosting next week should be a good show. She did a good job the last time she was hosting the countdown. It looks like next week will be the last countdown of 2013.

I didn't hear her first hosting job, but at the very least I'm thinking she'll be a little more engaged in the show than Britney was last week.

Ryan mentioned something to the effect that Ayah Marar would be the first singer born in the Middle East to hit the Top 40. Right away I thought of Cheb Mami, but I looked up Algeria and that's not considered part of the Middle East.

The new purpose of the guest hosts(Pitbull, Britney) may be to make us appreciate Ryan more, and to look forward to his return. LOL I didn't get a reply from AT 40 about last week's show or Ellen K. I hope Katy does a better job next week and doesn't "phone it in." What Now sure didn't do very well, maybe her least successful hit. Nice to see 2 new top 10's, though only 1 new song got played. I think it will be a 2 week year-end show, since Premiere Radio Networks also produces AT40 the 70's and 80's, and those year-ends start the weekend of 12/28. (They're playing the top 100 of 1975 and 1981 respectively.) I guess we'll see. Nice beefed-up 07/06 segment with not only a 241, but also an interview with Justin Bieber who didn't want to hang up. He appreciates Ryan's support, but feels beaten up by the tabloids.

Didn't you get a reply last year or the year before saying that it would only be a Top 40 from now on and repeated the following week ?
