Here's my bid at predicting the future... Casey James' sophomore album will be pretty solid but radio's response to his new music will be lukewarm. I hope you are wrong about this one! I agree that the album should be solid as long as he doesn't let Chris Lindsey over produce this one. I think he is pretty aware of the mistakes on the production on the first album. They need to make better single choices. The best song by far on his debut album "Drive" never saw the light of day. I know they pitched songs to radio stations in Denver and at least one PD picked Drive, then they went with "The Good Life" which tanked. I also think they gave up on "Crying on a Suitcase" too soon. There's a strong possibility the first single could be "A Woman's Touch" which is a ballad. Not sure how I feel about that. He's got great rockin' tunes with "Get on a Roll" and Get it Over With". Or "Nothing Like You" is a great summer time up tempo song. I just hope he can break through, but I don't really trust that Sony will do the right thing with him. I really like Casey too, so I hope I'm wrong and I hope he has a great year...but it's just a feeling I have (that his year won't be that good)

When was Greg Bates' departure from Republic Nashville announced? I now see that his page is no longer linked from the BMLG homepage, but I hadn't known he had left the label. Even as recently as yesterday Greg retweeted a Big Machine tweet, so I'm not sure if that's any indication that the two parted ways in a "friendly" manner. Either way, this news couldn't be more disappointing. I guess the only traditional artist left is Easton Corbin now, and I'm not sure how much longer he will keep getting hits.

There hasn't been an official announcement, but it was talked about in the Artist by Label thread, and, I believe rsmatto confirmed it, possibly in the Country News thread (I looked but couldn't find it). Matt also indicated that Greg has already been or will be picked up by another unnamed label in short order, and Greg tweeted me on November 24th to say new music is "coming soon."

It wasn't announced...these things usually aren't. But it was posted a couple weeks ago in the Artists thread that Greg was no longer with Republic, and rsmatto confirmed it. This is what Matt said back on 11/26 when we were talking about Greg in the News/Non-Singles thread: No. He [Greg] isn't [with Republic], but I'm hearing he's already got another label partner lined up.

"One can hope!" and/or "Headlines I wouldn't rule out."2. "Duck Dynasty" crashes and burns and the entire gimmick of a show will be dead and gone. The Robertsons will return to hiding in swamps without cameras following them around. And they'll shave. Yay! Here's hoping that those anti-gay slams two of the stars just spewed off will give me my first point! ETA: Oh! The guy also slammed African-Americans, too. This prediction just keeps gaining more and more room to become accurate.

A & E opted to just suspend him rather than firing him. But still, this isn't going to end well. I say that as a fan of the show and the family (especially those on social media).

Me disagreeing with him ≠ being Liberal. He made homophobic and racist comments. Saying what you want is one thing, but comparing homosexuality to bestiality and adultery is ignorance at its finest. His extra commentary about hoeing cotton fields with the "black people that worked on his family's farm" added absolutely nothing decent. Not even pulling the First Amendment card can mask the idiocy behind making that comment. Oh, and I refuse to express my political views on a music forum board, so you can throw that Liberalism card out of the nearest open window. Thanks.

I don't see his views as homophobic he just said he does not understand homosexuality and he sites the Bible as his source which he follows. He made no attempt to judge someone he said that he would not disrespect anybody in any way because they are different. The entire point of his comment seemed to be that he doesn't understand homosexuality and nobody but God should be judging them, so that's what I got from it and really nobody needs to berate him with hate because he states what he believes, which is something that doesn't happen enough. Good for Phil.

Good for Phil. I have absolutely no comment on this. This is the thread regarding the entire shindig. Pulling a mod card here even though I'm a person that doesn't have much room to do so, but let's shift focus back to the purpose of this thread -- discussing 2013 observations and 2014 predictions/probabilities for Country music & Nashville affiliations.

^I didn't mean to go off topic with mine, I swear. I kind of meant in a 'dang they are pretty spot on already' kind of way even though I'm a fan of the show and most of the family like I said. But I apologize completely for my comment! Back on the real topic though, I always mean to do one of these but always get into it way too late. I will be back with my list hopefully soon though. There is always so many lists and predictions that feel spot on with these posts.

A lot of interesting predictions! Let me try...(some of these may be wishful thinking also)
1. Garth Brooks makes a huge comeback and begins the shift away from frat-country, country-rap, etc. in country radio. 2. More and more country stars speak out on the current state of country music, sparking a traditional country movement. 3. Carrie Underwood gets pregnant and takes part of the year off. 4. Cassadee Pope will get a top 10 single with WATT then her 2nd single will barely make the top 40, and won't get any other singles off of her album after that. 5. Raelynn will be quietly dropped. 6. Taylor Swift will become primarily a pop artist and will continue to be less associated with country music. 7. The Blake/Miranda love fest will finally cool down. 8. Dan + Shay will be huge breakthrough artists 9. Scotty McCreery's See You Tonight will finally hit the top 10(and will peak around the top 5-7 range), and his 2nd single off of the album will be his first number 1 hit. 10. Danielle Bradbury's 2nd single will barely make a dent. 11. Jamie Lynn Spears will be picked up by a major label and country radio will finally have a new solo female who will get consistent top 10 hits. 12. The Pistol Annies and Sugarland will "officially" announce they have broken up. 13. Cole Swindell's Chillin' It will hit number 1 and his next single will also hit number 1.
I will think of more later, but I am too tired now.

I made more predictions but I think that 2, 11 and 32 may already have been predicted as true.

He has every right to say how he feels, and A&E has every right to not want him on the show anymore. The first amendment allows you free speech. It doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and not have any repercussions.

It doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and not have any repercussions. This is exactly true an on Twitter the past few days a person tried to tell me that the Dixie Chicks situation wasn't the same (just reversed) where folks like Fox News and "conservatives" complained about what they said about the US president and boycotted the band (and effectively ended their career on radio). They said they didn't have the right to say that because it was said out of the USA. There are always repercussions for what one says. It's not just 'liberals' who can seemingly be the 'opposite' of what they say they are, it's a universal human condition. As for predictions, I'm pretty sure that: -Cassadee Pope And Danielle Bradbery will have multiple hits in 2014. helping break the Glass Ceiling at country radio for female singers. -Sara Evans will have a moderate to strong hit with "Slow Me Down" but fail to have any other hits. - Carrie Underwood's next single will be the fastest-rising of her career but her next album will underperform expectations. -Garth Brooks will release all his music to iTunes in an 'album only' format. He'll start with "The Ultimate Hits" first, giving new life to his greatest hits, not unlike what Bob Seger and The Beatles did first. He'll then release "Singles" that give him new records to attain once his ego realizes he could. iTunes and Walmart will be his exclusive retailers for the time being. - Trisha Yearwood's new album is met with critical acclaim and the first single hits the charts but stalls in the 20s. The album will feature 2 duets with Garth Brooks. Her album will be issued only to Walmart and iTunes and will be released via Pearl Records. - Cole Swindell breaks out. - "Bro Country" doesn't fade. Other new stars falling into the mainstream include Sam Hunt, Dallas Smith, - Despite statement above, Chris Stapleton breaks out with a mid-tempo nostalgic number a-la Jamey Johnson and releases one of the year's most-cherished mainstream releases. - Charlie Worsham continues to hit Top 20 at radio with his second single but it's "Rubberband" that becomes his signature hit. - Vince Gill and Paul Franklin release a second collection of Bakersfield Country music. - Taylor Swift releases a new record which is again a mishmash of mostly pop songs and remixes the first two singles for Country radio, scoring Top 10 but no #1 hits. Remains format's biggest star. - Hunter Hayes releases one more single from debut album ("Light Me Up") before debuting all-new tracks during ACM Awards and CMA Festival spots. Album debuts at #1 all-genre upon release. - Keith Urban's "Fuse" delivers a 4th and 5th single in 2013 after "Cop Car." Album goes Gold but singles sell even better. - Jerrod Niemann's next album hailed as revolutionary by mainstream press and reviewers for embracing electronic production and slight EDM flavor. Country Traditionalists scoff and call it "Worst album ever." - A Country singer releases a version of Avicii's Hey Brother. - Bruno Mars songs start being recorded for Country singer albums. - A new artist will break out with a ballad that isn't mid-tempo but it still doesn't sell 500k downloads because it's deemed 'too slow' by younger fans who buy most music.

*Lee Ann Womack's long delayed album "The Way I'm Living" is finally released, returning her to top ten with a strictly traditional single & propelling the album to gold status , that breaks the "rule" that actual country records don't sell. Garnering her a Female Vocalist & Album of the year nod from the CMA in November.
*Kanye West, seeing the Bro-Country explosion in the genre records a country-rap album , lamenting his country roots from growing up on the streets of Chicago. Its met with open arms from radio , despite a big portion of the country audience proclaiming radio had pushed the boundaries to far. Eventually splintering the genre into two separate genres , Country & Country-Rap , which is quickly hyphenated to C-Rap.
*During the CMA awards in November Kanye reverts to his old ways & tries to grab the Album of the year award from Lee Ann Womack during her acceptance speech , but is quickly subdued with a quick kick to the crotch from a stiletto-ed wearing Ms. Womack.

*Seeing the explosion of of C-rap , Big & Rich return to the forefront of the genre with a come back album titled "Country's Original Douche Bags".
*Colt Ford passes away unexpectedly and though the details aren't released to the public , its reported after his death that he had taken advantage of the Waffle House's 24 hour policy and went on 3 day hash brown binge. Hes hailed as his generations Keith Whitley.
*Tired of wearing skinny girl jeans , Luke Bryan reveals that His name & background were created and that he is actually 90's country act Ty England. His career nose dives as suddenly his young female fans don't find a 50 year old England singing "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)" quite as appealing. (seriously , have y'all noticed how much these guys sound alike?)
*Taylor Swifts talents and inability to grow up are called into question when she releases the title cut single from her new album "You're A Big Fat Doo Doo Head" . Though its not revealed , the song is rumored to be about Harry Styles. Despite very critical reviews , the album still goes on to sell ten million copies.
*Garth Brooks first post retirement concert is a disaster after Garth refuses to wear his cowboy hat and reverts back to his Chris Gaines personalty. By October , he re-retires , vowing he will return when his unborn grandchildren go to college. Uncle Lumpy I didn't even realize how funny this was going to be so when I read the first one about LAW's return (I thought you were just being really optimistic with her), but that was just great. I really got a kick out of those predictions. I died on the "Two and a Half Men" and "Just Kidding" tour ones, lol.

Well thank you! Bored at work. And yeah, REALLY optomistic on that first one. Ha! Id say the new Tim & Faith have more of a liklihood of happening then LAW having a comeback sadly.

Womack. *In a surprising turn of events , Kenny Chesney finally comes out of the closet and marries Billy Currington in a private ceremony in the Bahamas. They soon release a duet proclaiming their love and are hailed by Country Weekly as the new "Tim & Faith". (seriously , have y'all noticed how much these guys sound alike?) *Taylor Swifts talents and inability to grow up are called into question when she releases the title cut single from her new album "You're A Big Fat Doo Doo Head" . In an in depth interview with People magazine ,his wife , Trisha Yearwood reveals that Garth insists on being called "Chris" at home. *In a strange turn of events at a live Good Morning America show, Florida Georgia Line are embarrassed when a tape recording mis-hap reveals that not only were they not singing , it wasn't even their voices. Giving Nashville its very own "Milli Vanilli". Though its not revealed where the duo actually hail from , its reported they speak with thick New Jersey accents after their career's crumble. *Blake Shelton is once again in trouble when he is caught by a photographer drunkenly urinating on Hank Williams Sr's grave . Though his Twitter feed is flooded with angry Hank Williams fans , his fan base comes to his defense , asking "Hank who?" *Jason Aldean, Wynonna Judd, and Justin Moore go on a huge stadium tour called "Two And A Half Men". The shows a huge hit and thrills the fans every night when Wynonna pulls Moore out of her pocket to perform his middle slot on the tour. *George Strait launches his "Just Kidding" Tour in late 2014 after the final two singles form his "Love Is Everything" hit the top spot on the Country charts. *There are huge riots across the country in April when Carrie Underwood loses the ACM Female Vocalist Of The Year award to Lynn Anderson , who hasn't even recorded any music since 1985. The riots are only calmed after a tear filled plea from Underwood via live television. This was hilarious. Well done.

Yes, new Hunter in January. Also, the Highway is already playing Avicci's Hey Brother. They said new, not a previously unreleased one...

I believe that one or two artist will fall off the radar in 2014. Just who?
I think many agree that George, and Alan's run at radio are numbered. And Toby is inching very close to that cliff. But there seems to be one or two newer type artists to have their success plummet. We've seen Gretchen Wilson, Chuck Wicks, Jason Michael Carroll, Big & Rich, Josh Gracin, Montgomery Gentry, among others either have dramatically reduced chart and sales success or disappear all together. The Bro-Country phase I think will eventually run it's course, but 2014 will see very little reduction of it. Radio already seems to still be onboard with that kind of music judging by the quick embracing of "Drink To That All Night", and most recentley "Bottoms Up". There are a slew of new artist catering to this style (FGL, Cole Swindell, Chace Rice, Thomas Rhett) and more veteran artist (Luke Bryan, Billy Currington, Jason Aldean. But Jason to a lesser extent)
Out of the newer artist I still think Cole Swindell will not see dramatic success after "Chillin' It". Chase Rice will never fully catch on, as I still have a gut feel that radio sees through his music more so than others. But Thomas Rhett will explode. He's the perfect canidate for appealing to this younger demographic. His age, his looks, and his style of vocals and songwriting are why he will continue the string of hits. Infact I'd be shocked if he wasn't. I think That Luke will redeem himself with songs like "Roller Coaster", and "Dirt Road Diary", but maybe in 2015 will give us another frowned upon lead single from a new record. I do think he will gradually lose the stigma of "That's My Kind Of Night". My biggest prediction that I hope I'm wrong on is FGL. I just don't think the country music indusrty has ever seen this unique situation before. I know Garth had massive cross appeal, but he wasn't going over the boundries of country music. His style was still country as country gets in those days. And others such as Gretchen Wilson did not have the same effect on the other genres and fans as FGL does. I think that their next single will do very well. Not quite as well as the surprising "Stay" but "This Is How We Roll" will see cross over success and top 10 success on country radio. Their second studio album will also be huge. I think Scott Borchetta recognizes the potential he has with them and try to tweak their next project to have a little more variety. But what got them famous will dominate the album and dominate the single selections. Billy Currington I actually think will fade away again. Billy has proven in the past he can't quite hold on to that huge success. It seems he either has a song fail on him like "Tangled Up",or even "Like My Dog", or have some sort of personal problem. Now it might be unfair to assume that something like that might happen again, but I'm not confident enough to assume he will truck along with top 5 after top 5.
I really would like things to shake out my way, but I think 2014 will only be slightly better than 2013. Now there are ones who like the country 2013 had to offer, so If I was them I would still feel fine for the immediate future. Garth coming back will make things very interesting though. I still expect Shania to make a return as well. I don't believe that those artists will swing any pendulum or anything, but they might be the reason 2014 will be "slightly" better.

I'm thinking a few consistent hitmakers will return to form after slipups in 2013. Specifically Josh Turner, Rodney Atkins and Dierks Bentley.
Me thinks 2014 will be somewhat of a redemption year for the genre. I mean, there won't be traditional country dominating radio, but I think lyrical substance will make a marginal comeback. This wave of "Bottoms Up", "Drink to That All Night" and "Get Me Some Of That" will be more or less the final wave of bro.
I could also see Canadian artists making the cross to American. Such as Autumn Hill, Tim Hicks, Chad Brownlee, etc.
I'm very intrigued for this year actually.

2013 Observations:- The target demo for country radio underwent a clear shift in favor of younger males, which enabled the effective takeover by bro country. Tied to this takeover was the acceleration of the decline in country album sales and the increase in track sales. Emerging artists in the format scored gold and even platinum hits with increased frequency but rarely delivered notable numbers in the album sales departments. Bro standard-bearers Florida-Georgia Line were, admittedly, the main exception among new artists, while Kacey Musgraves is the only other new artist who currently seems to stand a chance at a certification for album sales (with little thanks to country radio, at this point). But in general, I think that the new audience being courted by country radio this year was much more of a downloading audience than an album-buying audience.
- Just an observation about the chart runs for some of the format's core artists: the first three singles from Blake Shelton's current album ran eleven, twelve and seventeen weeks to peak, respectively, the first three singles from Jason Aldean's current album ran eleven, sixteen, and twelve weeks respectively (while the fourth ran eighteen weeks to peak), and Luke Bryan's first two singles from his current album have both run twelve weeks to peak. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood's four singles from Blown Away ran fifteen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty-two weeks (including two early weeks) to peak, and Miranda Lambert's first four singles from Four the Record ran seventeen, twenty, twenty-six, and twenty weeks to peak. The result? Miranda Lambert's album was nearly fourteen months old when its third single peaked. Carrie Underwood's album was over eleven months old when its third single peaked. Blake Shelton's album was only 8 1/2 months old when its third single peaked, Luke Bryan's album is only four months old with its third single already in the top-10, and Jason Aldean's album was twenty-seven weeks old (just under seven months old) when its third single peaked.
I realize that less established artists see even longer chart runs, but I'm more interested in making a point about the life cycles of superstar male albums. The quick chart runs for the Blake/Luke/Jason albums do enable them to release five singles, and in Blake's case, his album got a bit of a prolonged life because of an extended break between the third and fourth singles. But it seems to me there's a bit of self-reinforcing cycle of disposable music/disposable singles/disposable albums going on with the superstar males. I also wonder if the short chart runs have had a negative impact on sales, although none of the three is necessarily hurting in that regard. Keith Urban is perhaps getting sucked into this a bit too, as his album is just over three months old and sits at a not terribly impressive 251K sold through the end of 2013's holiday shopping season, having already run through two #1 singles (that ran fifteen and twelve weeks to peak, respectively). - An increased number of radio stations allocated 70+ spins to their top songs (up from the 40-45 spin range), resulting not only in higher airplay peaks for the top songs but also an altered chart rhythm, prolonging chart runs for less established songs and generating larger post-peak declines.
- Contrary to Keith Urban's at-best willfully naive comments about country radio, 2013 will go down as the year when the conventional wisdom stopped treating country radio as a bellwether or central definer of country music. Country radio has mostly its narrowness and one-dimensionality in 2013 to blame for this. There's irony here in that Billboard was onto something when it imagined a chart methodology that incorporated non-country radio factors, but of course the mongrel chart is a fatally-flawed alternative to the airplay chart.
- Speaking of Billboard, 2013 was the year when Music Row started to treat it as a secondary chart authority behind Country Aircheck. At the very least, Billboard's change to the Hot Country Songs chart has resulted in less attention being paid to the Billboard Country Airplay chart, which is a shame since that chart has often proven to be a bit more resistant to inflated peaks (but again, the Garth "More than a Memory" stunt actually showed the vulnerability of Billboard's methodology). Among other things, it goes to show that the industry is still very committed to its relationship with country radio.
- Lady Antebellum's fade in the market is noteworthy. Despite what I saw as their stagnation on Own the Night and the stall of "Wanted You More" outside the top-20, Lady Antebellum's full-fledged loss of momentum in 2013 surprised me. "Goodbye Town" missing the top-10 surprised me. The postponement of the first leg of their tour really surprised me, because I'm accustomed to thinking of tour audiences for country stars as being more stable, and it seemed to me that the group was better than most at staying engaged with its fanbase. Not only that, the frequency of their new product releases during this period is perhaps the only current example in the country market of frequent album releases not shoring up an artist's place in the market.
- Block movement increased at radio in 2013, especially thanks to the increase in syndicated programming across the format. This changed the rhythm of the chart, creating bigger surges once songs hit certain airplay thresholds and bigger declines once they are dropped from those thresholds.
- One of 2013's deflating moments for me was seeing Julie Roberts audition for The Voice. She didn't perform well and didn't get a single coach to turn for her. But things picked up by year's end, when she released by far the best country album from anyone associated with The Voice in Good Wine & Bad Decisions, and one of my top-10 country albums for the year.
- I'm with the conventional wisdom on 2013 being a weak year for mainstream country, with bright/interesting spots from Kacey Musgraves, Charlie Worsham, "Wagon Wheel," "Mama's Broken Heart," "Two Black Cadillacs," Dierks Bentley's two singles, and not much else (I loved Ashley Monroe's album and Little Big Town's singles this year, but none was embraced by the mainstream). Based on the anticipated release schedule alone, I expect 2014 to be a much better year for mainstream country.
- "I Drive Your Truck"'s connection with the industry (as seen through the awards love it has received) surpassed its connection with country radio listeners (800K+ downloads is nothing to sneeze at and the song did hit #1, but it's surprising to me that it was so middle of the pack as a download seller among this year's high-profile hits).
- The Grammys, at least in the country category, have alternated recently between nominating a true mix that represents both the best of mainstream country and the best of country music that didn't make a big chart impact and rubberstamping mainstream country selections. Last year's nominations were a welcome mix of mainstream country and the likes of Vince Gill, Don Williams, and great songs that didn't chart as well as they deserved from Alan Jackson and Ronnie Dunn. This year's nominations were disappointing (perhaps predictably) in that regard.
2014 Predictions: - The songwriter with credits on the most #1 songs will be Jimmy Robbins.
- Eric Church will have another million-plus seller with The Outsiders, picking up another #1 hit and another top-10 hit along the way, but The Outsiders won't connect as widely as Chief did.
- "Bro country" will dominate unabated for the first quarter of 2014 and hold strong in the second quarter of 2014. Surprisingly, it will be the summer of 2014 that ushers in a new sonic and thematic trend.
- The 2014 ACM nominees for Album of the Year will be: Blake Shelton's Based on a True Story, Florida-Georgia Line's Here's to the Good Times, Luke Bryan's Crash My Party, Kacey Musgraves' Same Trailer, Different Park, and Tim McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom. The 2014 CMA nominees for Album of the Year will be: The Outsiders by Eric Church, Crash My Party by Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley's Riser, Miranda Lambert's upcoming album, and Jason Aldean's upcoming album. The 2014 Grammy nominees for Best Country Album will be: The Outsiders by Eric Church, Twelve Stories by Brandy Clark, Riser by Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert's fifth studio album, and the upcoming album by Zac Brown Band.
- Blake Shelton will successfully campaign for his first Grammy Award, and he will score his biggest first week of sales with his fourth quarter 2014 album. Blake's big sales week will happen just in time for him to lose his CMA Male Vocalist crown to Luke Bryan. Blake's album will lean away from "bro country" and include some Blake co-writes as part of Blake's effort to transition from the now-replaced male flavor of the moment into a more respected artist.
- Someone will release a game-changing single for the country genre in July or August 2014.
- Despite a lower first week of sales than Blake, Miranda Lambert will resume her perch as the power-couple's top album seller when it comes to their next studio releases. She will also win CMA Female Vocalist of the Year for a record-setting fifth consecutive year.
- Carrie Underwood will headline a live TV variety special on a major network in December 2014.
- Brandy Clark's Twelve Stories will surpass the 100K copies sold threshold.
- Repeating a prediction from 2013, television placement will result in satellite radio picking up a single from an unestablished country artist, which eventually translates into a terrestrial radio hit.
- George Strait's team will put together a major campaign to try to win him the fan-voted ACM Entertainer of the Year award, along the lines of the "60 for 60" campaign behind "Give It All We Got Tonight."
- "Follow Your Arrow" by Kacey Musgraves will make the top-20 of Billboard Hot Country Songs, but mostly because of airplay on other formats.
- Garth Brooks will be the Country Music Hall of Fame's Artist in Residence in 2014, and participate in a series of high profile events highlighting the history of country music, as well as his own part in it. There will be some live and televised component to his artist residency. He will also return to play the Opry for the first time in years.
- "Day Drinking" will return Little Big Town to the top-5, but it will be the second single from their late summer 2014 album that will be their next hit that really resonates.
- Hunter Hayes will hit #1 with the lead single from his sophomore album but will see uneven fortunes on country radio (at least relative to his sales and star power) after that.
- Cassadee Pope will follow in the illustrious footsteps of Julianne Hough and win the 2014 ACM New Artist of the Year award.
- Josh Turner will release a gospel album.
- Taylor Swift. Goth phase. Her relationship with the country industry will continue with her new album even as her music continues to show little to no affinity for country music and her impact in the country market continues to decline. Meanwhile, her impact on music in general will grow.
- Jason Aldean will change absolutely nothing in his approach for his next album, and while he will fail to recapture the commercial magic of My Kinda Party, he will continue to be a platinum-selling touring powerhouse.
- Lady Antebellum will release another full studio album in the fourth quarter of 2014, and it will open with lower first-week sales than Golden.
- Tim McGraw's upcoming album will contain both one of the best songs he has ever recorded and a song that is even more embarrassing than "Truck Yeah."
- Every major label male country artist and male group will mine the Chris Stapleton catalog for songs to cut, making him the new Shane McAnally.
- Brad Paisley will release a high profile side project in the last four months of 2014.
- The video for Jana Kramer's next single will make a bigger splash than the single does at country radio.
- Florida-Georgia Line will somewhat hilariously win the 2014 CMA for New Artist of the Year.
- Jake Owen and Kip Moore will underperform relative to expectations in the sense that neither will graduate to the next level of country stardom. But both will maintain a solid presence in the marketplace.
- Sara Evans will quietly part ways with RCA Nashville at the end of the year, after two singles and the release of her album.
- Warner Brothers Nashville will continue to surge in the marketplace.
- Two solo females will score their first solo top-20 hits at country radio. Four duos will land their first top-20 hits at country radio, and four solo males will score their first top-20 hits at country radio.
- Country stations will start to rebrand as "music from the country"/"music from the heartland" or "country and contemporary" to reflect the fact that their playlists are more about the so-called country lifestyle than country music.
- Country music album sales will increase in 2014, but it will be largely due to the 2014 release schedule compared to the 2013 release schedule, not because the actual sales climate in country has strengthened.
- Repeating another prediction from 2013, George Strait will resume appearances at the Opry after he wraps up The Cowboy Rides Away tour, and he will be invited to join the Opry. Dailey & Vincent will also be invited to join the Opry.
- The momentum artists at the end of 2014 will be: Dan & Shay, Brett Eldredge, Luke Bryan, and the Cadillac Three.
