Did anyone else see George pass Miranda on his way up? ... I'm sure he meant nothing by it, but Miranda had her hand up for a high-five and everything... Lmao. Yup read a few posts up. Totally not on purpose but I like how Miranda played it off and went quickly to the fist pump!

I don't care for Gary live anyway...but I'm sure they knew ahead of time that they were gonna be lip syncing so why wouldn't they at least try to sing to the track?

I was hoping for Miranda, but George is of course very deserving.

Another thought:
No awards tonight: Blake Shelton Luke Bryan
And FGL only got the won that they had to win.
That all is an overall positive.

Perhaps "I Got A Car" maybe gets bumped up a few spins this week heh.... Don't count on it. The last EOTY win did absolutely nothing for the song. I guess he sang it tonight so at least he's got that going for it?

The high point for me was Merle's reaction to today's Country. That really says it all. Then the George win right after that! This alone made me glad I wasted most of 3 hours to wait for it.

Now I would LOVE to see Reba win Female Vocalist, she needs to hurry up with some new music.
Overall, a very lackluster show, but the awards were all very good. My complaints would be "Mama's Broken Heart" for single; I genuinely felt any other song aside from FGL's would be a more fitting winner, but I'm okay with it. Female Vocalist: my issue is evident... it's not that Miranda isn't deserving, it's just that I'm tired of hearing her name when there are other females doing just as well, and better in many respects. I also wanted Miranda for Entertainer of the Year, but I can't complain about George winning (although I still think he took Carrie's spot). Whatever the case; the hosts were terrible, the performances were good, and the awards were mostly great.

Even though they were missing Reba, I must say I did love seeing Martina, Faith, and Trisha up on stage today.

I know George Jones is spinning in his grave with 95% of went on tonight being called Country music.
Loved that Hag brought it all back to perspective so eloquently.

George did not deserve to win EOTY. It's crazy that the format's two biggest superstars left empty-handed, while George hasn't had a hit since "Love's Gonna Make It Alright" and he has two EOTY wins in a row. The format's already given him a #1 that probably shouldn't have even gone top 10. Now they're going to keep giving him awards that other artists deserve, too? The fact that Luke Bryan went home from two awards shows in a row empty-handed is ridiculous, and I'm not even a particularly big Luke fan. These awards shows are losing my respect quickly.
I'm glad TBP finally won Vocal Group, though, and I'm glad to see any song other than "Wagon Wheel" win Single of the Year. It's also nice to see Kacey get an album award because I feel she hasn't been given as much success as she deserves on country radio.
As for performances, I really loved Dierks/Sheryl and really didn't like Toby's performance. Why would they waste a rare chance for Toby to still get some mainstream attention by having him perform such a ridiculous song that never caught on at all? He really should have done one of his classics, like "Love Me If You Can," "American Soldier," or "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This."

The awards shouldn't be taken that seriously honestly. I'm all for George representing those voting for the awards that want to keep traditional country around, which is what I'm assuming is going on. Sure, chart success isn't great for George right now, but chart success almost never matters in EOTY voting, otherwise he would have 10+ EOTY awards. He's the exact opposite of most everyone else in the category, and I don't think many are happy with the direction of country music is moving towards. This is two straight awards shows where voters are telling the world what they want. I doubt it will matter, but someone is trying to get the message out :)

^I wouldn't mind if one awards show became more or less the unofficial awards show for traditional/critically acclaimed country music, and if that's the direction these awards shows decide to take, I'm fine with George Strait, LBT, etc. continuing to win awards. I guess it is fair to try to acknowledge the acts that aren't getting as much commercial success but still have really devoted fan bases. It just seems a bit extreme for George Strait to win EOTY twice in a row while Luke Bryan goes home empty-handed twice in a row.

I was happy to see Justin Moore, Kacey Musgraves, George Strait win. Was really pulling for Gary Allan with Every Storm or even Wagon Wheel.
Performances: George, Justin, Eric, Miranda, Tim & Faith, Kip, Lady A + Stevie, Dierks & Sheryl, Darius,Brad all were good to me! I like Toby but not sure if that was his best performance. Rascal Flatts continue to do nothing for me.
Wished LBT, Gary, Reba, Kacey, or Sara would've got to perform (I could mention a few other one's also)
Merle's reaction & speech said it all..

The last EOTY win was from the industry and this one was from the fans. A very fitting way for George to go out.
They'll have no choice but give it to a bro country artist after George has retired.

Both the CMA's and ACM's seem like mixed singles being sent. I said that I believe that they didn't want to leave anybody hanging at the CMA's, so to me at least it was like they tried their best to tote the line of commercially successful and critically acclaimed. I do feel that other than Entertainer, I wasn't overly surprised at the winners. I'm one of the biggest George fans out there, but I tend to agree with churchchoir that he shouldn't have won back to back Entertainer of the year awards, while the genre's hottest superstar walks away empty handed. I can't stand the direction the genre is going but I feel these award shows should reflect the success on country radio and album sales. The only award I want the winner to be the best artistic piece of music is album of the year and I thankfully got that tonight finally. I'm finding it really difficult to watch the ACM or CMA's as time goes on with the entire way the shows are conducted now. Even though George probably shouldn't have won the EOTY award, the fact this was fan voted is reassuring and perhaps there's a bigger voice that shares my feelings about the direction the genre of country music is heading down than I originally thought. Only time will tell if it gets worse before it gets better. I thought Dierks/Sheryl, Keith Urban, Miranda, and Brad were the best performances overall. I will say spending these award shows with Pulse is way more fun than without it.

I didn't watch a minute of the ACMs but i'll probably watch some of the performances when they are up on YouTube. Overall, how were the ACMs?

No other picture from tonight even matters. I didn't watch the show tonight and I'm not even mad about it. Thoughts about the recaps I read through/comments from this thread: Way to go Kacey! I knew she'd win after her prior wins for the album, but it's a huge relief that she took home that award against several undeserving nominees. Enough is enough!!! Yikes, you know something's wrong when someone snatches a record from REBA, or even comes close. What an injustice! If Carrie Underwood had broke her record, something tells me you'd be singin' a different tune. Much as I'd love Carrie to win more, Miranda Lambert was more active in the last 12 months than Carrie, and "Mama's Broken Heart" was much bigger than TBC and SYA. And the other three FVOTY nominees obviously didn't come close. Since we're going by the eligibility period, which was the very beginning of 2013-very beginning of 2014, Carrie was more active and more deserving than Miranda. But, that doesn't matter because Grammy gold shines more than the children's street chalk that the ACMs are made out of. Justin, 6 years into his career, Moore just won Best New Artist! At least he's Country! Debatable. Hopefully Gary Allan will win next year. HAHAHA line of the night. Needed Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood to have hosted than Blake and Luke. Bad news, then: f**king shameful. They were inexplicably bad. That jab at Britney Spears wasn't even necessary. They're f**king douche bags, and their sex jokes are so goddamn old and immature that I almost thought I was in middle school again. "Country music is alive and well." - Florida Georgia Line Were they shading themselves? Been like this for about 5 years now not just the ACM's but the CMA's and the American Country Awards that FOX shows. I don't recall the 2013 CMAs taking over 30 minutes to present the first award... I'm pretty sure their first award was handed out within the first 20 minutes or so... First award at the CMAs is always handed out directly after the opening monologue, so no more than 15 minutes into the show. I'm amazed they didn't find the cure to cancer by the time they handed out the first award at this shitshow. I'm the real winner here because I opted not to watch at all tonight. And, to cap it all off, LL Cool J handing out Entertainer of the Year? Yep, sounds about right. Bingo. G'night!

Some thoughts: 1. Entertainer of the Year-Really happy that George Strait won that one. He can win that one until hell freezes over and I would not mind one bit. However, being realistic, someone else will win that one next year. 2. Female Vocalist-Really? Miranda Lambert for the fifth consecutive year? It is really time another female gets that one. I would love to see Carrie Underwood regain that one or Kacey Musgraves if country radio gives her a decent shot of having hits. 3. Male Vocalist-Jason Aldean repeating here is not a surprise even though he put out that 1994 song. I thought with the love the A.C.M.s were showing Keith Urban, he might have won instead. 4. Album of the Year-Musgraves for Same Trailer Different Park. The most critically acclaimed 2013 release. She should see a sales boost. I am hoping that CD goes gold. It will be hard for that one to go platinum. 5. Vocal Group-the Band Perry. I must say they have been putting up the big hits off their Pioneer CD. I think the recent struggles Little Big Town has had with their last two singles caused voters to look somewhere else. 6. Song of the Year-I Drive Your Truck-The Lee Brice song is powerful and deserved recognition. I would not have minded a Wagon Wheel win, though. 7. Single of the Year-Mama's Broken Heart. If it weren't for the Musgraves connection, I think Wagon Wheel would have won. I know Lambert gets the win, but in reality, people should see it as a Musgraves triumph. 8. New Artist-Really? Justin Moore? Kip Moore or Brett Eldredge would have been better picks. I personally would have preferred Musgraves, but she was not a finalist. 9. Vocal Duo-Florida Georgia Line-Really no surprise here. 10. Music Video-Highway Don't Care-A really powerful video that deserved to win. To think Urban just plays a guitar in the song and still gets the win is amazing unto itself. 11. Vocal Event-We Were Us-Again, the A.C.M.s were giving Lambert even more love. To think the A.C.M. considered Wagon Wheel to be a 'duet' between Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum is laughable because Lady A provides back up and even during its chart run, you NEVER saw Lady A's name on the chart next to Rucker's. Thank God the A.C.M.s are leaving Las Vegas for Dallas next year. Who knows? Maybe the 'country' will be put back into the A.C.M.s. I was happy that Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan walked away empty handed. I know some will hate me for saying that, but I think it is high time those two started putting out better music for their upcoming CDs (to be released this fall, I bet). www.wkbw.com/news/WYRK-Breakfast-Club-Talks-ACM-Awards-254181341.html

George did not deserve to win EOTY. I'm sorry, George Strait deserves to win everything. Especially when the competition is Luke Bryan. George could walk out onstage and do nothing but make armpit noises, and he would still deserve to beat Luke Bryan. Just thought I'd get that cleared up. :)
