Once again, it looks like AT40s chart completely ignores December 2012 spins, which managed to hurt "Locked Out Of Heaven", considerably (#16 ?!?, ouch). My money was on "Blurred Lines" taking #1, here, so no surprises. The more I thought about it, I figured "Can't Hold Us" might've been a strong contender. So, again, no surprise to see it at #2.
Oh, and KelownaGuy20...you need to change the title. Top 40, not Top 100. :)

It would be cool if the peak positions for each song could be listed. And if they went number 1 they should be listed how long they were number 1 for.

:O Did not expect that "Locked Out of Heaven" would be all the way down at #16. I figured there was a chance it might, say, be lower in the Top 10 if they were using closer to a calendar year survey period, but #16?
I'm also surprised to see "It's Time" up at #31; Id've thought that would either be lower or missed the Top 40 completely (if anything, Id've picked "Try" to be in the countdown instead).

Technically, that's valid as the chart was "frozen" for those weeks.

Some discrepancies between the Mediabase calendar year chart and this chart. This looks like it mirrors the Mediabase calendar year chart, but with a few big differences. The biggest is the number one song which shows that "Blurred Lines" is not even close to the top (about 18,000 plays behind "Can't Hold Us") as of late November, and still almost that far behind on the latest chart from this past weekend. Also, a few songs with three to five spot differences in the ranking, but fairly close. And "Locked Out Of Heaven" finishing at #16 isn't all that far off, as it is at #14 on the Mediabase calendar year chart as of early December. But assuming this is an affiliate chart that AT40 is using, that could explain Robin and company grabbing the top spot this year.

Yeah, "Locked Out of Heaven" nearly matches its actual placement here, but I really didn't expect them to actually nearly match it.

Yikes...looks like they've mixed up the entire final hour of Katy's show on today's replay with the entire final hour of...THIS. After the 10-8 segment on Katy's show, "Clarity" is now playing. Consider this a word of warning this weekend, as it could be even worse than just bad starting/ending times now.

The AT40 Channel of iHeartRadio has just downgraded its stream from 64 kbps AAC+ to 48 kbps AAC+. This is consitent with the iHeartRadio's recent downgrading of the standard stream quality from 64 kbps AAC+ to 48 kbps AAC+, which occurred 2 weeks ago.

Maybe it is because of the AAC+ stream, which sounds better than MP3 streams. Now, 7:21 pm EST, they are counting down at # 31.

What you might've missed [from #40-#21]:
Recap of last year's Top 3
Anna Kendrick was too busy to promote "Cups" and was surprised it did so well
Florida Georgia Line is the only country duo to hit the Top 40 this century
"Cruise" is the #1 country song of 2013
"Same Love" moved 18 spots and is tied with Pink's "Just Give Me A Reason" as the biggest mover of 2013
"22" is the shortest title of the year
Imagine Dragons have the #1 Alternative song of the year [title wasn't mentioned but it's "Radioactive"]
Lorde was the first solo woman to top the Alternative chart since 1996 and she's only 17

Disappointed not to hear "Troublemaker" and "Alive" on the countdown, I was pretty sure they'd make it in the last few songs.

Did they say what next week's show will be? No, they didn't say. I hope it is the first Top 40 countdown of 2014. Having the year-end countdown twice is kind of pointless, IMO.

Hmmm...listening in now, and it doesn't sound like too much of an audio downgrade so far. Though, it's not like I'd want them to go any lower with it. Interesting...how can you tell? Also, can you tell me what quality Rick.com streams? I do know that the IHeart quality has always been worse than his site. I record the audio at both sites and Rick's always sounds better. Thanks.

In the meantime I've heard the end of the show, and it seems just like every year since 2010 where nothing is said about the first new countdown nor anything about next week. My guess is that they recorded 2 year-ends well in advance with different extras for each, and are taking a nice long year-end break. We'll know for sure by mid-week. Last year's top 40 also kicked off with a "Night" song: Some Nights. I was surprised they played People Like Us, which isn't even on the top 100 of this thread. In reference to the top of the alternative chart, Lorde was born that year in 1996, LOL. Maybe they don't count the frozen weeks from Dec. 2012 which would lessen its impact. Every song in the actual top 40 for this year was a top 10 hit.

What you might've missed [from #40-#21]: Florida Georgia Line is the only country duo to hit the Top 40 this century Ryan mentioned way back the week "Cruise" debuted that they were the first country duo to hit the pop chart since 1976. The previous country duo to chart would've been The Bellamy Brothers. Lorde was the first solo woman to top the Alternative chart since 1996 and she's only 17 I, immediately, thought of Alanis Morissette when I heard this. A quick check of her Allmusic page tells me that "Ironic" topped the Alternative chart in 1996 so I'm assuming she would be the last solo woman to do so.

In June 1996, a few months after "Ironic", Tracy Bonham hit #1 on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart with "Mother Mother". Tracy was the last solo woman to do so until Lorde.
