One listen to Elvis singing, How Great Thou Art, or any gospel song dispels any notion that Elvis was overated. Elvis had a voice like no other probadly the best we will ever hear.

Yes, I do thanks, that was a typo error. IMO Elvis was like no other with his gospel recordings. I have some older, older actual albums of his gospel music and his 3 CD Amazing Grace set with the videos. His voice will give you chills with his recordings of these songs.
I actually have many of my very old Elvis albums from way back in the 60's and the album of his Hawaii special that I bought on the actual release date of the album.

His voice is so boirng, flat, and monotone. Prime Example: Back When and Do You Want Fries With That. What terribly horrible songs!

Sorry but Elvis couldn't get any bigger alive or he would have exploded :o ;). Just kidding. How can someone who has sold 100,000,000 albums do country music harm??? Look what he did for Chris Ledoux. He wouldn't have sold half the albums he did if it wasn't for Garth. What artist were hurt by Garth? People who hated country music were turned on to the genre by Garth. Turn your attention to modern day music not 1950, 60, and 70 and tell me who has had more impact on country music that Garth?

Look what he did for Chris Ledoux. He wouldn't have sold half the albums he did if it wasn't for Garth. What artist were hurt by Garth? What artists got hurt? I don't know anyone specifically, but I know that many have made claims that they were treated like garbage by their label (the same one Garth occupied) because Garth seemed to be their only priority. I'm sure just about all of us here have read reports about how Garth pretty much took over Capitol records during his long run at the top. If you're asking who got hurt, it could very well be those people who were left out in the cold at Capitol records during Garth Mania. I agree with you here. I enjoy Garth's music (pre-Chris Gaines and pre-final cd) and I know some don't agree, but I like his concert style, to a point. I like the huge amount of energy he had on stage and how it seemed like one big party. I like that kind of entertaining. Others may not agree. The one thing I didn't like was when Garth was hanging from various parts of the stage. That's just too much, imo. I still enjoyed his type of energetic shows though. However, imo, I think Garth got way too caught up in the sales numbers and the marketing of his albums. I think I read somewhere that he got a Marketing degree from some school. It sure seems like he did. The guy had more marketing tricks up his sleeves than a room full of magicians. Box sets, "Limited Edition" things, multiple cover releases for the same 1 album, re-releases of discs with a couple of "extra" songs on them...the list goes on. I just think Garth got into the numbers game way too deep and then "retired" too much. I think the Chris Gaines thing was what finally caused a hit to his popularity. I don't know if Garth can come back as strong he once was, or even half as strong as he once was, but I'm sure the industry would gladly accept his sales and tour numbers once again. :)

Name specific artist that got hurt and we can discuss from there. Trace AdkinsI have been attempting to find a direct link to an article with quotes from him regarding the whole Capitol situation but this is all I could find. It's from a ST board. I attempted to do a general AOL search but that turned up a couple thousand results. I wasn't about to search anymore. Deana CarterAlso, Deana Carter was one who was hurt during the Garth era. I remember her coming out and saying some pretty blunt things about it. I have been searching for a direct link to her quotes as well. I've come up empty, so far. It is a lot harder than I thought it would be, but I have not given up. HendricksThis does not really pertain to artists that have been hurt, but I have found this link. It is a link to an article on the whole Hendricks situation at Capitol. There are other artists who have said similar things, and some have said harsher things, but those are the only links I could come up thus far. Looking for links is what took me so long to reply back to you. I wasn't avoiding your reply. I was just searching for links when I had time. I'm most annoyed that I have been unable to find a link to the Deana quote. I know she addressed the Garth issue in at least one article. I will continue looking.

Trace Adkins is doing just fine these days although his Big Time album was shunned in a way but only because the music was less than stellar.
Deanna Carter- She hurt herslef by having a terrible sophomore album and has been getting worse as the albums go by.
Of course Garth was "running" the label. Those two artist were in the baby stages of their singing lives and he was selling millions of albums. Who would you listen to in that situation? I know it was a bad spot for a new artist to be in but what do you do? It seems like the label could have promoted these two anyway because Garth really didn't need the promo at the time.
It's good to see someone doing some research and trying to have a good clean debate.
