I must say Kenny Chesney had 'terrible' timing. First, No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems stayed at #2 while Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffett hogged all the airplay during the summer of 2003. An exact year later, Live Like You Were Dying could not let I Go Back enjoy a week at #1. I saluted It's Five O'clock Somewhere in August, 2012. Here is the chart where it was in its first week at #1 (a week before sabre14's chart). Some subtle differences: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 9, 2003: 1. IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK SOMEWHERE-ALAN JACKSON AND JIMMY BUFFETT-ARISTA 2. Red Dirt Road-Brooks & Dunn-Arista 3. No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems-Kenny Chesney-BNA 4. Celebrity-Brad Paisley-Arista 5. Beer For My Horses-Toby Keith and Willie Nelson-Dreamworks 6. My Front Porch Looking In-Lonestar-BNA 7. Forever And For Always-Shania Twain-Mercury 8. Real Good Man-Tim McGraw-Curb 9. What Was I Thinkin'-Dierks Bentley-Capitol 10. 99.9% Sure I've Never Been Here Before-Brian McComas-Lyric Street Don't forget Kenny had terrible timing back in April of 2003 when "Big Star" was shut out of #1 by "Have You Forgotten" by Darryl Worley. I remember Stephony Smith during a songwriter acoustic concert on XM radio joking with Wynn Varble who co-wrote "Have You Forgotten" about his song shutting her's out of #1. Then in November of 2005 it happened again to Kenny, when "Who You'd Be Today" peaked at #2 and was shut out by a combination of "Better Life" by Keith Urban and "Come A Little Closer" by Dierks Bentley. Dierks' song leapfrogged from #5 to #1 the week ending 11/25/2005 and edged out Kenny by just 120 total points on R&R. So Kenny from 2003-2005 had a fair share of unfortunate luck. Which is why Kenny Chesney has ten #2 hits. If you were to convert those to #1, Chesney would have 32 chart toppers, good for sixth place on the all-time list of those with the most #1s.

Random Video Of the Day:
Artist: Keith Anderson Single: "I Still Miss You" Writers: Keith Anderson, Tim Nichols, Jason Sellers Album: C'mon Label: Columbia Nashville Video Director: Traci Goudie Year Released: January 28th, 2008 Mediabase Peak: #2 Billboard Peak: #2
"I Still Miss You" the second song released from Keith Anderson's C'mon album. The first single "Sunday Morning In America" dies at #30 on MB and the record was put on hold. The song was co-written with Jason Sellers and Tim Nichols. Sellers is a former recording artist for BNA in the late 90's and charted with "I'm Your Man" (#37) and "A Matter Of Time" (#33). Some of his other co-writes include "Some People Change" by Montgomery Gentry and Kenny Chesney, "The One In The Middle" by Sarah Johns, "Don't You Wanna Stay" by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, "If I Didn't Have You" by Thompson Square, "You Can't Hide Beautiful" by Aaron Lines, "I'm A Saint" by Mark Chesnutt and "Sunny And 75" by Joe Nichols. The song would miss out of #1 by roughly 800 total points on MB in late August of 2008.
During this song's chart run, Keith's mom would pass away from a brain tumor and the song would take on a whole different meaning. I decided on this song after the "artist's you've met" thread.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Scotty Emerick Single: "The Watch" Writers: Scotty Emerick Album: Non-Album Single Label: DreamWorks Nashville Video Director: Michael Salomon Year Released: May, 2004 Radio and Records Peak: #46 Billboard Peak: #49
"The Watch" was a single that never made an album for Scotty Emerick in mid 2004. The song would only peak at #46 in July of 2004 and Scotty would never release another single for DreamWorks again because of the closure in 2005. He signed with longtime friend and songwriting partner Toby Keith and his label Show Dog Nashville that year and release his only single for them with "What's Up With That" (#43 on R&R). He's helped Toby write many of his songs including "I Love This Bar", "Whiskey Girl", "A Little Too Late", "Beer For My Horses", "I'm Just Talking About Tonight" and "As Good As I Once Was". He also co-wrote "Like My Dog" by Billy Currington.
WYRK actually played this song for some reason. I remember people joking that Scotty was Toby's unofficial sidekick back in the early to mid 2000's as he seemingly helped write all of his songs and toured with him multiple times. This song is easily one of my favorites of his and all of 2004.

Random Video Of The Day: Part I
Artist: The Farm Single: "Home Sweet Home" Writers: Nick Hoffman, Krista Marie, Damien Horne, Danny Myrick Album: The Farm Label: Elektra Nashville/WMN/All In Video Director: The Edde Brothers Year Released: October 17th, 2011 Mediabase Peak: #18 Billboard Peak: #19
"Home Sweet Home" was the debut single for the Farm. They are a trio comprised of Nick Hoffman (fiddle, lead vocals, backing vocals), Damien Horne (guitar, piano, backing vocals, lead vocals) and Krista Marie (guitar, backing vocals, lead vocals). Hoffman was Kenny Chesney's longtime fiddle player for his road band. He also has performed in live bands for Shannon Brown, and Tyler Dickerson. Damien Horne was a pop singer originally and made a solo album entitled Somebody's Hero in 2008. He is also a member of the MuzikMafia which he became a member in 2001. Krista was a solo artist on Broken Bow from 2009 to 2010, and charted with "Jeep, Jeep" (#57) and "Tomboy" (#57). She is also a motorcross ATV rider and was contemplating going pro before committing to music full time. She's also from nearby Batavia, New York which is only about 35 minutes from Buffalo.
After meeting in early 2011, they decided to start writing together. Their first song they ever wrote was "Home Sweet Home" and they quickly became a trio. They were helped along by former Western Flyer member and Nashville songwriter Danny Myrick. Myrick has co-written songs like "International Harvester", "She's Country" and "How Far Do You Wanna Go?" by Gloriana. They signed to Elektra Nashville in 2011 and this was their first single. The song spent 40 weeks on the singles chart and peaked at #18 on MB in June of 2012, though the song would stay on for another month from 21-20. The second single "Be Grateful" only peaked at #37 on MB and even though they had started work on a second album, they were dropped by the label. Though they are still working on music and will likely release it independently in the future.
It's my birthday, so I decided to do what are probably my two favorite songs released to country radio over the past decade with another to follow. This song was so refreshing. It had a great melody, with amazing instrumentation, and instead of just repeating the chorus, they had a clever extra country sounding verse at the end that made a great song into a stellar song. WYRK never added this and I will never let them live that down. ;)

Artist: Jamey Johnson Single: "The Dollar" Writers: Jamey Johnson Album: The Dollar Label: BNA Video Director: Wes Edwards Year Released: August 30th, 2005 Radio and Records Peak: #12 Billboard Peak: #14
This was Jamey's only charting single for BNA Records. "The Dollar" would spend 27 total week on R&R's chart from September of 2005 to March of 2006. The song was inspired ny him because of being away from his own daughter when he went to his construction job. Jamey's next single "Rebelicious" would only get to #57 on R&R and not chart on Billboard and was dropped by BNA. One of my all time favorite songs and one that really reminds me of being a kid and waiting for my Dad to come home.

Artist: Jennifer Hanson Single: "Beautiful Goodbye" Writers: Jennifer Hanson, Kim Patton-Johnston Album: Jennifer Hanson Label: Capitol Nashville Video Director: Trey Fanjoy Year Released: August, 2002 Radio and Records Peak: #14 Billboard Peak: #16
"Beautiful Goodbye" was the only top 20 single from Jennifer Hanson. It was also her debut single and spent 29 weeks on the chart, peaking at #14 on R&R in 2003. Her nexy two singles failed to catch on with "This Far Gone" (#42) and "Half A Heart Tattoo" (#40). She would be away from nearly four years before returning in 2007 with "Joyride" (#41 on R&R), and "73" (DNC). She also is a well credited songwriter and her credits include "Leave The Pieces" by the Wreckers, "A Different World" by Bucky Covington and "Let Me Down Easy" by Billy Currington.
This song takes me back to being in Middle School and WYRK would play the heck out of it. I was socked to find out later it only got to #14.

I remember Chris Conn premiering it on Fast Forward on Great American Country back then during the months new videos block on the show. Man, this was one of my favorite songs of 2004. I feel old thanks lol :)

Artist: Darryl Worley Single: "I Will Hold My Ground" Writers: Darryl Worley, Frank Rogers Album: Have You Forgotten? Label: DreamWorks Nashville Producer: Frank Rogers, James Stroud Year Released: November, 2003 Radio and Records Peak: #54 Billboard Peak: #57
Two songs from the same chart week here in late November of 2003. Rebecca's was the second single they tried for her Laughter and Tears album but was unable to release it due to the poor performance of "What A Shame" and "I Need A Vacation" (WYRK played both). She was moved to Arista afterwards but saw no better with her singles and she was dropped. Darryl's was actually the single that followed "Tennessee River Run" (#26). The song would not do well at all at radio though and he stayed quiet till the summer of 2004 when he released his soon to be #1 single "Awful Beautiful Life".

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Chris Cagle Single: "Laredo" Writers: Chris Cagle Album: Play It Loud Label: Capitol Nashville Video Director: Eric Welch Year Released: February 12th, 2001 Radio and Records Peak: #8 Billboard Peak: #8
"Laredo" was the second career single from Chris Cagle off his Play It Loud album. It was also his first top 10 hit and a song he wrote himself. His next single would be his first and only #1 single "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out". His final top 10 single was "What Kinda Gone" (#3) in early 2008 and his last charting single was "Dance Baby Dance" in 2013 (#44).
The summer of 2001 was the first year I got a season pass to Six Flags Darien Lake Theme Park. It was about a 45 minute drive, which meant many opportunities to listen to many current charting country songs on the radio including "Laredo", "What I Really Meant To Say", "Austin", "Only In America", "When God-Fearin'" Women Get The Blues", "I'm Just Talking About Tonight", Where The Blacktop Ends", "Loving Every Minute", "Don't Happen Twice", "On A Night Like This", and "Mrs. Steven Rudy" among others. Every time I hear "Laredo", that's all I can Think about. In other words, pure nostalgia. :)

"Lost and Found" was my very first favorite country song (my second was "Look Heart, No Hands" by Randy Travis).

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Sammy Kershaw Single: "National Working Woman's Holiday" Writers: James Dean Hicks, Roger Murrah, Pat Terry Album: Feelin' Good Train Label: Mercury Nashville Video Director: Michael Merriman Year Released: May, 1994 Radio and Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #2
"National Working Woman's Holiday" was the lead single for Sammy Kershaw's third album Feelin' Good Train. It would go on to peak at #1 on R&R and #2 on Billboard. This would actually be the third #2 Billboard hit for him with "Third Rate Romance" (which was the follow up) and "Love Of My Life" ebing the others. His only other #1 single on the charts was "She Don't Know She's Beautiful" in 1993. Sammy's last charting single was "Tennessee Girl" in 2006 off Category 5 Records which would peak at #42 on MB and #43 on Billboard. This song was also co-written by Roger Murrah who has also co-written "If I Could Make A Living" by Clay Walker and "High Cotton" and "I'm In A Hurry (And Don't Know Why)" by Alabama.
I vividly remember Sammy being a guest on GAC's show The Master Series with Bill Cody once and he stated that "Notional Working Woman's Holiday" had just barely lost it's bullet and likely would be going down that week on R&R after a peak of #2 with Alan's "Summertime Blues" still at #1 with a lost bullet himself. But he said that a station in Nashville helped get this to #1 because of some workers who worked overnight at the station and spun this song multiple times in a row every hour till the morning. I don't think it was the deciding factor on "National Working Woman's Holiday" getting to #1 but it certainly helped. I don't think that would work now and days to say the least.
Week Ending: 7/30/1994 R&R
1. Sammy Kershaw - National Working Woman's Holiday 2. Alan Jackson - Summertime Blues 3. John Michael Montgomery - Be My Baby Tonight 4. Diamond Rio - Love A Little Stronger 5. ^At least in Billboard, Alan Jackson and Sammy Kershaw finished #1 and #2 twice in 1994. You mentioned the combo of Summertime Blues and National Working Woman's Holiday and then it was Livin' On Love and Third Rate Romance (hilarious video, there!).

Oh man, what a day to catch up. Let's start with the Rebecca Lynn Howard song - such a great song, I was baffled then and still am that it couldn't even crack the Top 40. Darryl Worley's song was always one of may favorites of his, but radio barely gave it a passing glance as it continued to hammer the recurrent spins of the dreadful "Have You Forgotten". Lost And Found is still my favorite B&D song. For how few Kix songs actually made it to radio, he certainly had some great ones (You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone is my 2nd favorite B&D song). The Sammy Kershaw and Chris Cagle tunes were excellent as well.

All 4 of those songs still get pretty high plays from me, love them all but I think Shelly's is the most underrated. Loved the album and her follow up while not country was amazing!
