Both known for starting at a very young age, and both not afraid to speak their minds at all. One had a more punk approach to her music, the other a more gothy, trip hoppy approach... yet they're both still pop princesses at heart. Which girl has the better first two singles?

On what planet is Avril anti-pop? She was kind of marketed as being the "anti-Britney", "anti-Christina" when she came out.

On what planet is Avril anti-pop? This is from en.wikipedia.org 'There are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.' This is from Last.fm Avril lavigne pop, pop rock, rock, female vocalists, canadian I agree with ON WHAT PLANET IS AVRIL ANTI-POP?

I can understand people voting for 'Team' over 'Sk8er Boi' since the latter is one of those songs that most people refuse to admit that they like, but 'Royals' over 'Complicated'? Really? SMH.

Damn I'd have split the votes; don't really know who to vote for with songs listed as pairs.
"Complicated" > "Royals" "Team" >" Sk8er Boi" (which remains one of my least favorite pop songs ever)

11 years after the fact, it's definitely very hard to remember Avril's "anti-Britney" image.. By the time "Girlfriend" came out, she was pure, transparent, cheeseball, pop. Lorde is too alternative to go that way (we hope...), but it's funny what time can do.

Era? Avril's. But from the four songs listed, Lorde I guess.

I'm going with Lorde, even though I love "Complicated" and even "Skater Boi." I think Lorde's music is more interesting overall than Avril's debut.

I love "Complicated", but Lorde's combo of "Royals" and "Team" takes the cake by a slight margin.

Looks like ranking the songs is going to be part of this, so...
1. Team 2. Royals 3. Complicated 4. Sk8r Boi

If I had to rank the songs: 1. Complicated 2. Sk8er Boi 3. Royals
4. Team
So, easily Avril.

If everyone is listing:
1. Sk8ter boi 2. Complicated
No offence to Lorde, but I'm not gonna list her. There is such a distance between Avril's debut and Lorde's debut that I'm not gonna put them in one list.

1. Royals 2. Complicated 3. Team
Sk8er Boi is absolutely one of the worst pop hits of all time and would sink any polling booth pairing ever.

Complicated > Royals (barely) Team > Sk8er Boi (decent margin)
Lorde takes it, but I love all 4 songs and the best song is "Complicated."
