As we were, pretty much, expecting, it's a slow week. With the exception of the biggest mover ("Young Girls") and the biggest dropper ("Perfume"), nothing moves more than three spots.
Given the three options on the web site -- "XO", "Adore You", and "Hey Brother" -- it's safe to say that the latter is the Subway Fresh Buzz Song since the two former are already charting.
It's a little worrying to see "Counting Stars" slip to #3. Will they not make it to #1, here? Next week's battle should be interesting.

A lot of last week's big movers suddenly if temporarily slow down, though many of those moves were inflated by the absence of charts for two weeks. In last week's show, Ryan simply compared the moves to previous chart positions as if only one week, instead of three, elapsed.
Eight songs stay in the same position as last week, including an AT40 jackpot at #8. Somewhat surprisingly, "Clarity" holds on at #40, and "Blurred Lines" stays on at #29 while two followups have now come and gone, as "Feel Good" falls off. "Counting Stars" slide back to #3 doesn't necessarily preclude it from moving back up; in addition to "Wake Me Up", four years ago "Tik Tok" jumped to #2 on the first post-holiday countdown, slipped back to #3, and then moved back up to eventually hit the top.
Some notes about extras and their placement: back-to-back Lorde hits are broken up by Avicii's new song, and this is the second week in a row that the last optional extra is from Taylor Swift, both from the same album (in addition, that album's "22" was an extra in the year end show.) The Two for One feature is back, with One Direction receiving that treatment for what I think is the first time; usually they place 2 for 1's in the top 10, and 1D's only previous hit to reach that level was their very first one.

We'll see if he can top Richard Marx's feat for having his first 13 Top 40 hits all make the Top 10. Ryan didn't mention that Rihanna has the most #1s so far this century (there was another stat last week), so we'll see what he says at #1 this weekend.

Not mentioned but it looks like "Hey Brother" is the Fresh Buzz Song of the Week.
The other candidates - "Adore You" and "XO" - are already in the Top 40.

Congratulations to Mr. Seacrest on his 10 year anniversary at AT 40. He is not Casey Kasem, but he was the best choice out of the list of contenders that were under consideration.
On a related note I wonder if we will ever find out the REAL story behind Mr. Kasem retiring from AT 40? (He did manage to retain hosting duties on his AC and Hot AC shows until 2009) did he leave willingly or was he forced out?
On yet one more note when will Premiere Radio release his 90s countdown (Casey's Top 40 and later AT 40) into syndication?

More woes with AT40's iHeartRadio channel. The Thursday night countdown, in addition to starting about two hours and 45 minutes later than it used to, now routinely cuts off at 2 a.m. EST -- right around #6. So we get to try again on Friday afternoon at 4, er, I mean 6:45.

As much as I would like to listen to/record them, the start time is just too late, for me. I almost wish we knew who to contact to bring these issues to their attention. It almost seems that whoever "runs" the station (it's, undoubtedly, more automated than it is hands-on) is oblivious to the problems.

A friend sent a message to at40staff@at40.com. She got a reply thanking her for pointing it out and saying others had complained as well. They said they would contact the people who can fix it. But that was a month ago. So yes, I agree that it doesn't seem to be a priority for them.

We'll I'll be...I just tuned in at 6:20, not expecting the "4:00" broadcast to have started, yet, and they were already on #28. :o Which means the show started only a little over an hour late. Not quite there, yet, but better. I guess they are getting this delay problem hammered out.

Not much movement on the chart besides the biggest mover and biggest dropper. Glad to see One Direction make the Top 10. I was sort of surprised that "Clarity" held on at #40 rather than falling off completely. I was surprised at "Counting Stars" falling down a spot to #3. It should get #1 soon, so I guess we will see happens on next week's show.

"Clarity" is still on the Mediabase top 40 with Recurrents, even now, so I'm not surprised. True, but so are "Get Lucky" and "Mirrors" (the latter moving back up 5 notches to #27 [!] on the matching recurrentless chart), and those departed the countdown before the end of 2013. :) This week it's not as surprising to see it hang around, but next week I also wouldn't be surprised to see it depart. Seems like it started sometime last year or in 2012 where old/recurrent songs started to leave AT40 a week or two before they left Mediabase's overall Top 40.

and this is the second week in a row that the last optional extra is from Taylor Swift, both from the same album Same album? I think not. ;) I thought "We Are Never Getting Back Together" was listed when this was first posted. Indeed, it is "You Belong With Me", from a previous album. Still, I found two extras from the same artist in the same place in consecutive weeks to be noteworthy.

We have a jackpot this week: 08 08 (08). Ryan interviewed Kevin Hart who Pres. Obama nicknamed Kev when he went to the White House. He also talked to J-Lo who has a new song Same Girl, which reminds me in concept of Jenny From The Block. Not too original. We get 3 non-optional songs in a row with some of a woman's favorite things: perfume, chocolate, and XO. Macklemore stays in touch with his inner child. The kid on Thrift Shop, references to Pre-K and 3rd grade in Same Love, chasing dreams since he was 14 in Can't Hold Us, and the same bridge they walked across as kids in White Walls. Slow week but at least they played a couple of new songs.
