The CMA show will be 3 hours long, stretching from 8 pm until 11 pm. According to this "NY Times" article, titled "This Year, New York is Country Country," there will only be 10 awards handed out on-air. The following is an excerpt from that article. ...Only 10 awards are scheduled to be given out during the show, which leaves plenty of time for performances - there should be more than 20 - and the organizers promise a jazzed-up set with appearances by "New York-type personalities."

Starting to sound just like the Grammy's. You mean, something that's not worth watching?

Grammys are way better than this. I used to agree with you but with them just televising 10 awards as well (not to mention getting beaten out in rankings by Desperate Housewives...which I also watched instead), I just can't agree. I dislike both the same, but that's just me.

Also, the Shania Twain Fan Club is reporting that Shania will[/B] attend the CMAs. No word on if she will be a performer or presenter. Also, this has not been confirmed by the official CMA site yet. The Fan Club news release says the following: Shania is also scheduled to appear on the CMA show in New York City on November 15th. The CMA's will be held in NY this year, rather than Nashville.

Hmmm....looks like they're getting "their picks" there first...These awards are looking more and more rigged everyday.

They must be having a hard time luring the big names to come to the CMA show this year. Check out the news on a new deal for this year's CMA attendees. Daddy's paying the freight[/size] -- According to the Tennessean, the Country Music Association is covering travel-related expenses for all artists appearing on the November 15 "CMA Awards" in New York City. The organization will pick up the tab for Hotel, air and ground transportation for nominated, presenting and performing artists, as well as for performing artists' bands. The expenses will be paid out of a $500,000 budget approved last week by the CMA board of directors. Is this free ride enough to cancel out the scary sight of NYC Mayor Bloomberg, strutting around the awards show in a big dopey cowboy hat? You decide. Countrynation

It's so sad that artists are now being bribed to come to the award shows. That is a major low

Maybe if the nominees and winners weren't the same EVERY YEAR, more artists would want to be involved.

Seems like a NORMAL busines decision to me. Money is relative. If the company I work for decided to have one of our quarterly meetings at an offsite facility where I had to travel more than normal miles it doesn't make any difference whether I was at the entry level or where I am now (I've been fortunate) I expect to be paid for that trip and so does everyone else. Most companies it is policy to be paid for travel expenses outside of the norm when it is a company sponsored activity.
I don't think too many of you would travel for your company without being compensated in turn unless you are on comission or whatever no matter what your current income is (as indicated above it is relative). Don't think this has anything to do with being bribed, it's more common sense; something they should have done at the onset IMO. It's all a part of business and any industry.

Don't think this has anything to do with being bribed, it's more common sense; something they should have done at the onset IMO. It's all a part of business and any industry. The problem with that thinking is that most of the people who are performing/presenting on the show are Multi-millionaires. A lot of them have their own private jets. That's why it's funny/odd that the CMA is having to fit in travel/hotel expenses to/from the CMA awards. It seems like that's something they're having to do to get people to show up. I could understand paying the expenses for the band or crew members, but for the stars? It just seems like it's something that is being done to get them to the show.

JOAN & MELISSA RIVERS TO HOST RED CARPET PRE-SHOW FOR CMA AWARDS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15
TV Guide Channel’s Live Event is Part of CMA Awards’ First New York City CelebrationLOS ANGELES – TV Guide Channel continues to patrol the biggest Red Carpet events in the world with hosts Joan and Melissa Rivers by adding November’s Country Music Association Awards (CMA) to the duo’s roster. The mother-daughter team, who made their TV Guide Channel debut earlier this year, have already more than doubled TV Guide Channel’s previous awards show ratings with their trademark interviews, humor, fashion commentary and gleeful celebrity-watching. The Rivers’s have now set their sights on new territory – the November 15 telecast of the CMA Awards – live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Joan & Melissa Live at the CMA Awards, a two-hour live pre-show, begins airing exclusively on TV Guide Channel on Tuesday, November 15 beginning at 6 PM ET (delayed PT). Additionally, TV Guide Channel will air a one-hour Guide to the CMA Awards on Sunday, November 6 at 8 PM (ET/PT), as well as a CMA Awards Fashion Wrap on Wednesday, November 16 at 8 PM (ET/PT), both hosted by Joan and Melissa. This year, the CMA Awards event will be held outside of Nashville for the first time ever when “The 39th Annual CMA Awards” is broadcast live on CBS from New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, Nov. 15 (8–11 PM/ET). Traditionally one of the highest-rated awards specials of the year, more than 37 million people watched all or part of the 2004 CMA Awards, placing it behind only the Academy Awards and in a statistical tie with the Grammy Awards in ratings. “I have always loved Country Music,” quipped co-host Joan Rivers. “As a child, my entire family would gather in the living room to listen to the Grand Ole Opry, which was very hard as we didn't have a radio. Even though I am older now, I still adore Country – in fact, my favorite song is Tammy Wynette's ‘Sit By Your Man.’" “I am very excited to be a part of the CMA celebration this year, especially since it is their first telecast outside of Nashville,” said co-host Melissa Rivers. “I’m an enormous Country Music fan, and can’t wait to see many of the artists I know as they walk down the Red Carpet.” “We’re thrilled to be part of the CMA Awards celebration, and are delighted to be ringside from the Red Carpet of this historic telecast in New York City,” said Ryan O’Hara, president, TV Guide Channel. “We look forward to Joan and Melissa bringing their unique mix of glamour and humor to the CMA Awards Red Carpet as they interview Country Music’s biggest stars,” said Ed Benson, CMA Executive Director. “We are thrilled to have TV Guide Channel share all the excitement leading into ‘Country Music’s Biggest Night™’ with their viewers.” Joan & Melissa LIVE at the CMA Awards is the Rivers’s fifth Red-Carpet special of the year for TV Guide Channel, having already provided commentary for the Golden Globes, Grammys, Academy Awards and most recently the Emmys. Of course they begged the 2 biggest music legends and superstars to present the last award of the night(EOTY) Shania and Billy Joel will present the last award. Shania must of agreed to attend because she will promote her new perfume line that is already selling great and the promo won't even start till this holliday season.

REIGNING CMA ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR KENNY CHESNEY TO OPEN “THE 39TH ANNUAL CMA AWARDS”
Current “American Idol” Carrie Underwood to Perform and Present Award; Additional Presenters Include Cowboy Troy, Montgomery Gentry, Olivia Newton-John, Joe Nichols and WynonnaNASHVILLE – Reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney has been tapped to open “Country Music’s Biggest Night,” CMA announced today. “It makes sense that biggest touring artist in the format, should be the one who opens the CMA Awards on this historic occasion,” said CMA Executive Director Ed Benson. “This is a night of firsts and big events and this will be one of them. Kenny’s energy alone with his ability to connect with the audience and our viewers will set the tone for the night.” “The 39th Annual CMA Awards,” which is hosted for the second year by Brooks & Dunn, airs live Tuesday, Nov. 15 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the CBS Television Network from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Chesney will open the three-hour gala with the scorching “Living In Fast Forward,” from his eagerly anticipated BNA Records release The Road & The Radio (Nov. 8). Having sold in excess of 1 million concert tickets in America for the third year in a row – beating U2 by more than 200,000 tickets for he first half of 2005 alone, Chesney understands how to hit it hard and plug directly into the kind of high energy New York feeds on. 2005 “American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood showed Americans that her heart was in Country Music, and they responded enthusiastically, voting her their season four Idol and making Underwood one of the most in-demand new talents to emerge this year. The Oklahoma native recently made chart history with “Jesus, Take The Wheel” the first release from her forthcoming 19 Recordings/Arista debut album, Some Hearts (Nov. 15). The song became the first single by a new artist to debut inside the Top 40 since the start of BDS audience monitoring in 1990. Added to the list of presenters are Cowboy Troy; Vocal Duo of the Year nominee Montgomery Gentry; former CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Olivia Newton-John; 2003 Horizon Award winner Joe Nichols; and Wynonna, who has received 25 career CMA Awards nominations, including 20 with mother Naomi as The Judds, and five as a solo artist. Performers already announced for the 2005 CMA Awards include Dierks Bentley, Big & Rich, Bon Jovi with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland, CMA hosts Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Sara Evans, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss + Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Julie Roberts, George Strait, Sugarland, Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, Lee Ann Womack, collaborations with Dolly Parton and Sir Elton John, performing together for the first time ever, and Willie Nelson and Paul Simon, who will perform and then present CMA Song of the Year. Previously announced presenters include Trace Adkins, James Gandolfini, Vince Gill, Billy Joel, Kris Kristofferson, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix.
