I'm so glad they're back.
Natalie's voice is really underrated.
This showcases her voice amazingly.

Do you think they will get any adds? If they don't, it's really pathetic. I'm hoping enough time has passed where they'll get a fair chance assuming the song is good.

This song is absolutely amazing. I LOVE the lyrics. And her voice....................I don't know what else to say other than AMAZING. I Hope this hits top 40 AT LEAST. But I'm really hoping for top 10. What do yall think? I think it's been more than enough time since Natalie's screw up.
One of the two radio stations here have recently been playing a lot of the Dixie Chicks after not hearing them once since the incident. Maybe that's a sign?

At the risk of gettin completely pounded ,I think there gonna be REAL lucky to get in the top 40.First theres prolly alot of DJs and programers that havent gotten over the whole "were leavin country" fiasco. And production wise I dont think there even pushin for the country market.I think I heard they cut this in LA......and for better or worse.....it sounds it....

I, for one, don't even think this song sounds country. Not saying I don't like it, but it's not country by ANY means.

no its not really country in my opinion either .Not that being "NOT country" would keep it off the country charts......I havent heard it enough to say if Im gonna like it yet or not

I love this. The riff is really good. I hope this finds a home at radio, whichever format.

This WILL go Top 40. I don't think that'll be a problem.
Whether they'll get a fraction of their former airplay is the real question here. The best case scenario in my mind is that they may be able to touch the Top 10 again, with the worst case scenario being if they suffer a smiliar fate like 3 Doors Down have at Alternative, where only a handful of format stations (most being from the south) pick them up and they're the force behind getting the Chicks numerous Top 40-Top 30 showings without ever going Top 10 or possibly Top 20 again.
"I hope" this becomes as big of a hit as possible. Some of the most conservative markets in the country are still going to shut them off, but overall I think some stations have decided to move on and forgive them. Exactly how much, we'll just have to find out.
This has quite a Bonnie Raitt feel, so I bet this can explode at Triple A! :)
My Prediction: #18
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

OMG I can not believe how bad this song has done so far. It's pretty much over now huh ? It's a great song but it really doesn't strike me as a DC lead single.

I can't believe how few stations are picking up this song... This is really sad.

I like the song but its not exactly a "put me back on the radio" kind of song. Its not among the countriest tunes they've recorded.

It's a great song, but I agree. It doesn't seem like the best choice for the 1st single from their new album.

Is this really the first single from their new album? I thought it was just a song they performed for the Hurricane Katrina benefit.

It has never been mentioned to be the lead from a new album...

yeah, the album is coming out on March 21, so this certainly can't be the 1st single... Unless they are expecting some kind of Breakaway.

Well, Breakaway was not released exclusively for Kelly's new album - it was released in conjunction with The Princess Diaries 2. However, it inevitably helped her with her future singles and album sales. I think it is too soon to release a single to radio if the album isn't due out for almost 6 months. I mean, yeah, Country radio is slow in general, but still. Maybe the company pulled the adds date and they will release it later?

"I Hope" is a Katrina single.
From AllAccess:
Wriiten by the Chicks with KEB MO, "I Hope" was premiered on one of the benefit concerts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. One thing is definitely for certain when you hear the Chicks, especially after it's been a while. Plainly, they just stand far ahead of the pack- it's simply great music. "I Hope," with it's gospel tones and inspiring lyrics, is uplifting and positive. My hope, for "I Hope," is that this beautiful song, by one of the most talented acts that our format has ever seen, gets heard.
It doesn't say that it's exclusively a Katrina benefit single, but I think it started off that way. So it'll still be on the album, but they're just releasing it early to fit Katrina's timing (a la Third Day's "Cry Out to Jesus").

This is good, but I'm suprised this didn't do that well on it's first week. How is it doing now?

This is good, but I'm suprised this didn't do that well on it's first week. How is it doing now? Not so hot. After debuting at 60 and then moving to 54 on Billboard, a somewhat misleading position considering that it only had 34 spins that second week, I Hope fell off the 11/5 chart completely. If not for the fact that it was getting spins on KZLA, it would never have charted at all. Now it's down to 17 spins on Mediabase. This is very disappointing, and maybe it will change, but there's no way to make what has happened so far look good.

Because country programmers don't give a sh*t about the Hurricane victims, and won't even play a song to support them.

While "I Hope" may not be a traditional country song, it does have an amazing vocal by Natalie Maines.
While it doesn't deserve to be played just because it is a hurricane tribute/fundraising song, it does deserved to be played because it is the latest release by one of the most successful country acts of the last ten years.
The fact that radio is not playing it and giving the listening public a chance to vote for it with their requests is a sad commentary on what country radio is and has become.
