I HATE it when labels choose horrible singles. If they've been in the business for so long and are professionals like they say, why are they choosing horrible singles? I especially hate it when they choose bad follow-up singles.
Jo Dee Messina - Led with "Give a Damn..." which was great, but followed with "Surprise" Great song, not radio friendly. Should have followed with "Too Late To Worry"
The whole Hot Apple Pie lead and follow-up was a huge mess.
Trisha Yearwood's follow up I don't think will do anything.
Follow up singles are crucial to an album's success and lately it seems like record companies are screwing them up.
Although Mercury did everything right with Sugarland and Capitol is doing great with Keith Urban. When will some of these companies wake up and see that some of the songs they are choosing are just not radio-friendly?

Sometimes it is tough to know what will catch on at radio.
Curb Records almost released LeAnn Rimes's "You Take Me Home", rather that "Probably Wouldn't be This Way", to follow up "Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense". Thank god they chaned their minds. I think Jo Dee's "Delicious Surprise" could have been a hit, I just think it would have been a better third single and the second should have been a slow one, like "It Gets Better" or "You Were Just Here". I never think two upbeats in a row is always a good idea, although obviously it can work(Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson)

I do not begin to guess why labels pick certain singles over others. I'm sure in some cases an artist may really believe in a certain song too, maybe to their demise.

Your'e Like Coming Home- Emerson Drive What If- Emerson Drive This is making me want to make a list......I am not done yet! I completely agree! "Last One Standing" wasn't a very good single choice IMO. YLCH has went Top 10 for Lonestar, if only it had been a hit for ED instead. And "What If" is just a great song.
