The public didn't know at all. Even Nelly's Spanish album sold over 100k in the US despite having no hits. TSI's release was just an utter disaster, hence why it has sold literally nothing in the US. I'm pretty sure Nelly funded at least two of the videos they shot. I agree about the lazy vocals on Parking Lot and the overly raw and nasal vocals on Spirit Indestructible. They really should've led off the album with something more radio-friendly like Waiting For The Night, Bucket List, Miracles or even Believers. If I was planning the album's singles beforehand...Big Hoops, Spirit Indestructible and Parking Lot never would've entered my mind as possible singles (at least early on). Horrible single choices. She did do the whole promotional tour when the album was released and performed at a big awards show (AMA?). Anyway, that's beside the point. I hope she can have a comeback someday.

Nelly Furtado 'challenged' working with husbandNelly Furtado admits it can be "challenging" working with her husband. The 'Say it Right' hitmaker has worked with her sound engineer spouse Demacio 'Demo' Castellon - who she married in 2008 - on two albums, 'Loose' in 2006 and 2009's 'Mi Plan' and though they share "healthy tension", their studio sessions usually result in "good things". She told PEOPLE magazine: "It's a healthy tension working together. It doesn't always go smoothly, of course, and it can be really challenging when there are differences of opinion, which of course happens. But good things always tend to come out of it, and that's the whole point." "We make it work because he's often doing his own thing. I go off and do my own thing, so it's not like we're working together all the time." Nelly is returning to the recording studio later this year and is looking forward to her spouse to push her into creating work that is better than ever. She added: "When we work together, he challenges me. That's what makes him so great in the studio. If it were an easy process, the final product wouldn't be very good, but he helps me to reach a little bit further. He pushes my boundaries." And away from the studio, the 35-year-old singer - who has 10-year-old daughter Nevis with former boyfriend Jasper Gahunia - says she and her family have a "great life". She said: "We're very blessed to have a beautiful family. We have a great life together. Life is good."

Hardly a promotional tour. She appeared on the Wendy Williams show and Kelly & Michael, I think that's it. She performed her flop single at the BBMAs in May which was 5 months before the album eventually dropped (the utterly useless pushback was another horrible decision).

I think what really caused her drop in popularity is that even back in the Loose days she never marketed herself as a celebrity. Like I'm a huge fan of hers but I don't feel the urge to search for her latest candids, interviews or even performances. I know many things about her life and how she started in the music biz but I feel like I don't know her while it's not the same with other artists I admire (Britney, Gaga, Rihanna, Lana etc). Not that I really know anyone of them but with her it's a total blackout. Not that she has to sell her privacy or anything (I actually appreciate her for that) but it's saying something when someone like me who owns all of her albums and listens to her constantly doesn't care about anything else besides her music.

I actually really like both of the new songs.
I don't think Nelly was ever really a pop star. I disagree that Loose was not at least a majorly collaborative work though. Timbo added beats and production, and maybe Promiscuous was more his work, but throughout the rest of it, the same Nelly from her first two albums was present - the lyrics, the world sounds, the songwriting. It was definitely more collaborative than Whoa, Nelly! and Folklore though.

Nelly Furtado Has “No Regrets”: Listen To The Gorgeous Unreleased TrackNelly Furtado reminded us 1. that’s she’s still alive and 2. a brilliant pop star when she shared lovely unreleased track “Red Balloons” a couple of weeks ago. The Canadian diva freed another stellar demo from her laptop today (February 26) — unleashing “No Regrets”, most likely another outtake from underrated LP The Spirit Indestructible. As much as I liked “Red Balloons”, it sounded like a work in progress. “No Regrets”, on the other hand, is a fully formed and rather fantastic pop song. This is vintage Nelly Furtado. Co-written and produced by Rick Nowels, the uplifting track taps into the folk-with-a-modern-twist aesthetic of Loose highlights “All Good Things” and “Say It Right”. In other words, it’s extremely good. The arrival of “No Regrets” raises two questions. Why was gem omitted from the 35-year-old’s last album and when will we get new music? I guess we’ll never get an answer to the former but Nelly’s team could be leaking these tracks to seed a future project. Cross your fingers! www.idolator.com/7507511/nelly-furtado-no-regrets

I will always be here for TSI because of Parking Lot, Waiting For The Night, and especially Something. Nas and Nelly both murdered that song and that Salaam beat was to die for. Jeep-rattling, for sure. Nelly remains one of the most misunderstood artists. I think that's part of what makes Nelly Nelly though. She refuses to be categorized and put into a neat, tidy little pop box. She just loves being an artist and part of the creative process, so yeah, I agree with B4L wholeheartedly on this one. I don't care if we ever get another Loose or commercial success again, as long as she puts out music I like. As for her voice, it's always been quirky and at times, grating. It can also be soaring and beautiful, too. She is very multi-faceted.

Well you can't really say you don't want another commercial success since if she keeps on pulling TSI numbers she won't have any label issuing her music which is not what us fans want.

Well yeah but I'm here for some more Maneaters and Say It Rights which are not exactly indie-sounding songs.

Either way it's still encouraging to hear that they are on good terms. They were such a big success formula, I would love to hear what they can come up with if they work again.

Timbaland was upset that she recorded and released an entire album through his imprint without any input from him but they'll work together again if Nelly's open to it. I'm fairly certain she's going indie with Nelstar at this point though.

I like Nelly! I appreciate her artistry from Whoa... But even more afterwards. Força, Powerless and Try were really good (the latter was a hit back home). In terms of Loose: no! I remember discussions here in Pulse about how Say it right and All good things come to an end were pure Nelly!! No other had that mix of indie and urban vibe plus melancholic voice -that magic was only Nelly. For the previous poster who asked about Maneater: YES! It was so frustrating!!! Label kept milking Promiscuous for a long time. Many thought it was to allow her obtain #1 of the year in the battle with Shakira. Radios were eager to move to the second single as Europe had done. Maneater's video was popular, the song was hot, radios started playing it with no adds date. It reached top 20 with unsolicited play while Promiscuous was still receiving good airplay. Then the label moved to SIR and completely killed Maneater. A similar situation happened with Black eyed peas and Don't lie being killed by My humps. Nelly could've had another monster hit with Maneater In terms of Mi Plan it's important to mention that the album was a critical and commercial success in the Latin market. Nelly was coming from a mega hit in the Latin markets thanks to a duet from Juanes' album (Fotografía). Then the duet with Juanes for Loose (Te Busque) was a lesser but still popular hit. The first two singles from MP were smashes too and she was embraced with open arms in the Latin market. Anyways. I root for a comeback. She has the quality to have more hits under her belt :))

Luckily for Nelly her last album flopped so hard that she can make a comeback marketed as her first time back since Loose.
