None of the catalog albums, outside of TIC, were charting high on iTunes. I thought that one may have cracked catalog top 50, given it got as high as 64 or so on iTunes, but maybe it's not stocked highly in stores.

I don't think selling 121000 units for the 1st week is that bad for Madonna considering she has been around so long. She's is not being played on the radio at all and to still be able to sell like this I think is amazing. If you compare RH sales to the sales of Prince his last album 'Art Official Age' which sold 51000 in its first week than its not bad at all. Prince is also an artist who has been around a long time, is about the same age as Madonna and is also not being played on the radio. This is my first post, so please be nice :) That's not exactly an apples to apples comparison though. Prince released 2 albums simultaneously, one rock and one R&B that combined for about 75k in their first week. The albums also had no where near the buzz or promotion that Rebel Heart has received. But yes, 120k copies in its first week with no hit single was fine.

Yeah…Prince has sorta been off the radar and little to no promotion…I bet many people would not even know he put an album out.

I cannot believe how shocked you guys are about the album. It's been available for FREE for TWO months. Who the hell, outside her fanbase, is going to pay for it? Not many. She will make her money from the tour. The artists who aren't selling anymore and cannot tour, those are the ones you need to feel sorry for.

I don't feel sorry for anyone. These artists are still richer than anybody here will ever be, flop album or not.

Love Liz. Tells it like it is. Liz Smith on Rebel Heart sales Sunday, 22 March 2015 From Liz Smith: www.newyorksocialdiary.com One last music note. There has been some barely disguised glee in reporting that the 'Empire' soundtrack just barely beat out Madonna’s 'Rebel Heart,' taking the No. 1 spot on Billboard. But Madonna’s record is actually selling more. (I leave it to chart mavens to explain this anomaly.) And, the album is No.1 in eleven countries worldwide. Don’t cry for Madonna, because believe me, she’s not crying! She has promoted the hell out of the record. Now she’s thinking ahead to her sure-to-be-stupendous summer tour. While Madonna occasionally looks back in song, in her life she simply doesn’t have the time.

Florida, I agree with you on this one, it did hurt sales...but that's not the only reason, a lot of fans that bought LAV, TRUE BLUE,LAP,ROL, AND EVITA are just not into the direction Madonna has taken in the last few album's ..and let's be honest too ourselves, Timberland, Nas, Niki M, Chance the Rapper, are not what the fans of her best albums want too here,,for example.. my sister's were 14 and 16 when M came on the seen in 1982...last album the bought was Confessions... and they both said the same thing...they cant relate too the songs she's singing now...they think GT is her best single in years...but when they hear M sing Yessus loves my P***y best in Holy Water...too them...they thought she's saying Jesus and they were like what the f**k is wrong with her..that turned them off big time...then I explained that she said Yessus ..you wanna know why?...cause they don't listen and could care less about K West and his album....and the fact is...a lot of her fans that buy the concert ticket most likely feel the same way...expect us diehard fans...so there should be no surprise her last 2 big selling albums were Confessions and Music...KEEP THE RAP OUT MADONNA...the fans will come back, but they want pure POP!

Also I feel if Madonna wants that #1 debut again on the BB200; she gonna have too play hard ball next time with this new SPS streaming and do the sales promo with bundling like she with MDNA ...if she simply did this in Dec with all dates released when she launched the 6 song for pre order ,,last week would have not even been close..she would have done 200k or more...lesson learned the hard way.

And Veni Vidi Vici is a strong song with Nas rap. His inclusion with the power of the horns instruments compliments M's reflection of her past with a classic M vocal chorus. The song is strong, bold , and powerful. Nas 's rap makes it even more of an anthem.

M has always exposed her audience to different styles of music. I never listen to rap but I love all of the rap parts on RH & MDNA.
This is a flawless album and I hope the blame for it's performance goes toward its awkward release strategy rather than its musical content.
The bottom line is L4L should have had a radio deal simultaneously with its itunes release not months later.
Let's hope this all works out for the best and Ghosttown becomes an AC smash.

RH is at 15 on Top Album Sales (and 21 on the BB 200)- while the album is on this chart, that is the one I will be looking at more, as comparing its run on the BB 200 to past albums is not the fairest of comparisons. This TEA stuff is nonsense- Mark Ronson's album has pure sales of just 3,600 or so- No. 86 on Top Album Sales. The big sales of one huge song- that people are buying as a track, and is reflected on the Hot 100- make the album rank No. 22 on the BB 200. Just one example.

I think just having a week picked out for her release can get Her another number one . Her team would just have to hope for no surprises like the empire soundtrack. Even if she doesn't open with these numbers again you can still can a number 1 with less than 100k if it's the right week

If she was releasing this week she would have had a #1, it's all about timing sometimes.

It had began to stall on radio and sales weren't that impressive. I really feel the exposure form that commercial drove that song on radio and sales. That is the best hope for Madonna to have a great selling single and a decent opening week album sales again. It would have to be the right song (fun and poppy, IMO) and there's no song on this album to fit that I don't think.

For all we know Interscope properly stocking RH in stores release week could have taken it to #1.

Some of y'all are so focused on the chart that incorporates stuff that has no business on an albums chart. For the old-timer acts, it's going to be more about Top Album Sales. I had said way before RH's release that Top Album Sales would remain a viable chart to track, and that is true, even if RH drops down the top 100 quicker than a ray of light. It probably will drop out of the top 20 after two weeks, which would putit below MDNA's three weeks. And the song I currently can't get out of my head- "Rebel Heart" (album version- love it).

still gutted that the demo version of Rebel Heart was scrapped. Listening to it on great speakers, and it's so wonderful. Huge missed opportunity.
also, was driving to the store and played Celebration. I gotta say I like that song waaaaay more than Living For Love. Not the video, of course, but as a properly structured song, YES. I love that retro bridge, too. And that first verse is pure fire.

Who? For the record, though, Timbaland is nowhere to be found on this album. Who? Who???? Although, that should be Kanye's new nick name, LOL. YESSSSSSSUS. I love "rap out Madonna," which we got all over this album, so yes, I do plan on keeping her, thanks! This just MAY be my favorite Madonna album period. Inside Out came on when I was leaving Korea Town tonight and I just about lost it.

Rebel Heart is still a good song but this is the one that I feel should have stayed the demo in some way…I feel it gave it that extra push to make it complete gold. More euphoric!

I'm so glad I didn't listen to the demos. I can just enjoy the final album versions for what they are.
I put RH on last night as my friend and I decorated for their GF's/my BF's surprise party. They liked it immensely, but "Ghosttown" was their favorite. (This friend prefers gender neutral pronouns)
EDIT: Also, there was this horrible article Facebook linked me to about how awfully this album is selling; I'm not posting it here because it's not worth it. It made me upset b/c 1.) They didn't account for the decline in album sales from the last 3 decades (of course) and 2.) IMO, Madonna hasn't don't unattainable 5-10 times Platinum records since TIC. Her albums have always sold solidly, but mostly between 1 & 3 million from Erotica onward, except for Ray of Light (4xp). Madonna selling 500,000-1 million in 2015 is comparable to the sales of a 2xp album of hers in the 90s, IMHO.

I felt like the person was just throwing the kitchen sink out and knew nothing about music sales etc.
