That fan image for YDKWTD isn't that great, either- it's an upbeat, fun track, and the art should reflect as much (at least IMO).

This photo NEEDS to be used for this single, preferably the right half.

This photo NEEDS to be used for this single, preferably the right half. Very nice photo but def. doesn't match up w/ the song at all. It's just a random pretty pic- that's it. If it was a ballad (a My All-esque song) this would be more than fine. Do agree though- if it was a single for any song it would obviously have to be cropped/ more proportioned. So far, the most instant /best single cover I've seen is the one w/ both her and Wale where she's holding the mic. 'Whatever' she ends up with this is all just such a clunky, campy mess lol. I mean...WHY would someone (Mimi very possibly) post the single cover to both Facebook and her own Twitter account only to have Mariah basically say it wasn't approved by her . The overall general public basically has no idea what's going on here. Still...enough people do. :/

I don't think she's approving anything at this point. I think she's not even talking with the label anymore. She probably told them do what you want, i'm done... and they came up with this cover on their own... What makes you think that? I know all... lol at her latest tweet!

I wouldn't mind the standard cover crop with the un-pasted face.

Yikes, what a mess- not only didn't she agree to the single cover, but she publicly tweets about it? I still hope the song can do something on the charts, but if it doesn't, I really hope both Mariah and the label move on.

She should be tweeting about it--it's incredibly embarrassing. There isn't a first year design major in the country that can't do better.
Spill all the tea, Mimi. Take what's yours!

Waleless version. His energy definitely adds to the song, and you can notice it in the version without him.

If it wasn't her selection, then she needs to take control of matters. It is a very simple matter of saying hey idiots that isn't the cover that was selected make it right. I think her record company is trying to get things rolling since she has been reluctant to get anything going, so they are making decisions without her because they are tired of her dragging her feet on sh!t. I can see that, but then Mariah gets upset when they do something. I can't imagine dealing with her, actually. Mariah has shown when left to her own devices, she can make great music. Her best albums have come as she has gained more control. She hasn't shown that she's as talented when it comes to promo, set-up, videos, and so on. She's earned the right to control her career, but she would do well to realize some people are better at certain things than she is.

The overall general public basically has no idea what's going on here. Still...enough people do. :/ Right. Mariah clearly knew about the cover on some level for it to be on her accounts. It's like she saw the poor reaction and is now re-thinking things. Another odd thing would be if she didn't have any control/approval over the cover, why would she suddenly now get to pick a fan-made cover to replace it? Either she has control or she doesn't. Waleless version. His energy definitely adds to the song, and you can notice it in the version without him. I definitely like NOT having him talking during that glorious ballad intro. I would like a version where Wale isn't on the intro and where one - but not both - of his verses are cut. I agree this version lacks the same energy, but I don't think that's all Wale. It almost feels like they slowed it down or something? Maybe it's not HQ. Regardless of all of this, I love "YDKWTD" and hope it finds some level of success/exposure.

What a perfect single title for this era. Mariah should shoot the video with the people from her label. It would be the perfect fit. She singing to them "YOU JUST DON'T KNOW" and in the end of the video the Sony/RCA/ EPIC/Roc Nation logo appears :'(

Mariah is likely to part with Def Jam ASAP, so I came up with a GH I would like to see for the era (while also trying to be fairly realistic).
1. "#Beautiful" 2. "We Belong Together" 3. "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" (Mainstream Edit - is that the one with Dave Navarro?) 4. "Obsessed" 5. "Don't Forget About Us" 6. "Bye Bye" 7. "Fly Like A Bird" 8. "Shake It Off" 9. "HATEU" 10. "It's Like That" 11. "Touch My Body" 12. "I Know What You Want" (preferably a version where she sings all of the bridge) 13. "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" 14. "You Don't Know What To Do" 15. "Say Somethin'" (Stereo Anthem Mix)
There could be a bonus/unreleased track in there.

Mariah probably saw the reaction from fans etc and said it wasn't her idea for the single cover. I'm surprised I liked the wale less version of "You Don't Know" because I really like Wale's rap. Her vocals sound louder on the intro to me too.

I thin "Migrate", "Love Story", "Mine Again", "So Lonely", and "Skydiving" would make great additions. :)

I thin "Migrate", "Love Story", "Mine Again", "So Lonely", and "Skydiving" would make great additions. :) To a Greatest Hits? None of them were singles. "Love Story" had a video, but I don't think it was pushed to radio or anything. "So Lonely" did get some exposure, and I love it, so its inclusion would be cool. Still, why would 5 non-singles go on a Greatest Hits set? What hits would you exclude in order to make room for those songs?

Instead of another GH collection, they should release a Should Have Been Singles collection, and send "Migrate" as the lead single.

Another odd thing would be if she didn't have any control/approval over the cover, why would she suddenly now get to pick a fan-made cover to replace it? Either she has control or she doesn't. i think it is not that uncommon for labels or promotion teams to update artists' social media accounts for them (ex., i can usually tell the difference on Kelly's accounts b/c she herself is so informal, which makes the rarer, more formal/clearly promo statuses stand out) but obviously this means that more than one person has the artist's password and can completely bypass the artist to update things. so i suspect that is the case with Mariah, with the problem being a major lack of communication. Someone got the bright idea to reveal the artwork without running it by her (probably were anxious to get the ball rolling and didn't feel like waiting on her) and now it makes her look bad both b/c she looks like she isn't charge of something as simple as choosing her own single artwork, AND because the people who were in charge didn't even bother showing it to her before uploading it to her accounts on her behalf and now she's caught off guard. it may not even be an issue of Mariah not having control at all so much as Mariah having it but not putting it to use, and then being stuck with the fallout when her label/management/underlings try to take things into their own hands and screw it up. it's kind of hard to sympathize with her taking the blame if that's true b/c if she would take the initiative to oversee things more, she wouldn't have this problem. she just seems so checked out on the business side of things and it's frustrating as a fan to see that. Her trying to backtrack after seeing the bad reaction could be true, but i dunno, for her to do that would mean she was at least on some level acknowledging she made a misstep in the first place, and...i dunno if i see that being the case at all! especially over a bad photoshop. she's been getting dogged over the PS thing for so long now, i can't imagine why this single cover would finally be the one to make her think 'oh, i don't want to take credit for that one." it's probably as simple as her just not liking how she looks in the picture...the album cover was a blatant PS but at least it was a well-done one. i dunno how this fan submission thing is going to work out, most people will want to stick with images from this era but that is slim pickings to be honest.

Official single cover for YDKWTD: Its really late and I'm drunk and I just noticed that "single coer" I have nothing to say she might as well at this point use the gif below as her single cover. Her dislocated arms seem to be holding up her broken neck and head in that shot. It's creepy, her face has no life.

I'd think "Through the Rain" would make an appearance on the GH- need some Charmbracelet representation, after all.
Wouldn't be surprised if a compilation is out before year's end.

I guess you missed the part where I wrote it's what I would like to see, despite my putting "like" in italics. And I did represent CB by including "BOTH." I agree there may be one before the year is out. With Spotify and other streaming services, I don't think hits sets will be around much longer.

I'm scared of the cover of the album Def Jam are going to come up with if they release a Greatest Hits without Mariah on board.
If it's just the "IDJ years" then I hope the cover is something close to the original GH album so that collectors can keep them side by side and it looks like a complete package. Otherwise I hope her next "GH album" will start from the beginning of her career and go all the way to MIAMEC (#Beautiful, YME, YDKWTD).

A greatest hits album for just her tenure at IDJ seems pointless and would probably just eat into sales of The Emancipation of Mimi.

1. Daydream 2. Me. I Am Mariah 3. Butterfly
The holy trinity for me. A month later and I'm still bumping this album like nobody's business. "Cry." remains an underrated gem.

Wouldn't IDJ have to pay for the rights to the Sony songs (or vice versa)? I would love a combined set, too, but I don't see it happening. A greatest hits album for just her tenure at IDJ seems pointless and would probably just eat into sales of The Emancipation of Mimi. That doesn't mean it won't happen. Again, hits sets are an easy money maker for labels (though less so now than in the past). That's why Sony keeps coming up with these random Mariah collections. Def Jam will likely want to get some quick cash. They don't care if it eats into the catalog sales for TEOM. The catalog sales for a hits set will be better than for TEOM, anyway.
