A greatest hits album for just her tenure at IDJ seems pointless and would probably just eat into sales of The Emancipation of Mimi. It's a weird thought but her tenure at IDJ is longer then her time at Sony. Anyway she has enough solid hits for an IDJ GH. For sure: Through The Rain, IKWYW, WBT, SIO, DFAU, TMB, BB, O, #B (Add in ILT, FLAB, ISIL, IWKWLI, YDKWTD as second round hits) and you got yourself an album.

I'm scared of the cover of the album Def Jam are going to come up with if they release a Greatest Hits without Mariah on board. Or the ultimate shade, IDJ adding the UOMF remix to the setlist.

Has this Sam Smith mention of Mariah as one of the 10 greatest R&B singers been discussed?
The "Mine Again" mention is interesting. Ben Folds praised that one as a Prince-like vocal.

Wow. I love that IM ROCKY bit. She sounds just like Michael Jackson. There have been several times where Mariah has sounded kind of like Michael Jackson, including her version of "IBT." It's one reason I am really sad they never did a duet; their harmonies would have been sick!

I came up with a slightly modified track listing for my IDJ hits set and did a write-up for the album booklet (it has always annoyed me that none of Mariah's hits sets feature a write-up, while collections by Madonna, Janet, Michael, Whitney, etc. all have them).
1. "#Beautiful" 2. "We Belong Together" 3. "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" (Mainstream Edit - is that the one with Dave Navarro?) 4. "Obsessed" 5. "Don't Forget About Us" 6. "Bye Bye" 7. "Fly Like A Bird" (live from Grammy Awards) 8. "Shake It Off" 9. "HATEU" 10. "Through the Rain" (Oprah version) 11. "It's Like That" 12. "Touch My Body" 13. "I Know What You Want" (preferably a version where she sings all of the bridge) 14. "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" w/ T.I. 15. "You Don't Know What To Do" Bonus Tracks 16. National Anthem (2002 Super Bowl) 17. "Say Somethin'" (Stereo Anthem Mix)
When Mariah Carey joined the IDJ team, she was at a precarious point in her career. Mariah had ruled the 1990s by having more #1 hits and selling more albums than anyone else. Artists ranging from Beyonce to Kelly Clarkson to Ariane Grande have spoken about the influence Mariah had on them becoming singers. As music and pop culture writer Rich Juzwiak noted, "Effort has always been this woman's aesthetic." By 2001 Mariah had worked herself into the ground, and she was dealing with some record label issues as well as the death of her father. Mariah didn't let any of that bring her down, and in late 2001 she sang her classic hit "Hero" at a benefit for 9/11 victims. In early 2002 she sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXVI (included as a bonus track here) to glowing reviews. Rolling Stone called the performance "elegant" and named it one of the most memorable Super Bowl National Anthems.
Later that year, Mariah released her first studio album under IDJ. Charmbracelet combined the spiritual uplift of songs like "Through the Rain" with other tracks ranging from hip-hop to rock; Mariah even delivered an orchestral cover of the Def Leppard power ballad "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" that Slant magazine called "daring." In 2003 Mariah joined forces with Busta Rhymes for the slinky hit "I Know What You Want." A decade later you could still hear that joint in ESPN promos.
All of that helped set the stage for one of the biggest comebacks the music world has ever seen. As the first line Mariah sings on The Emancipation of Mimi tells us, she "came to have a party." The Emancipation of Mimi found Mariah exploring Motown sounds in a modern setting and singing with an abandon we hadn't heard from her in awhile; Mariah had been through the storm and was feeling feeling free. If opening track and lead single "It's Like That" has a carefree vibe and found Mariah ready to party, the album's second single "We Belong Together" found Mariah sulking in the corner. That song has Mariah delivering a performance that Stylus called "evocative" and that Slant praised as both "understated and over the top." It was also both old-school and modern, and it was a massive worldwide hit that topped the U.S. Hot 100 for 14 weeks and was the Billboard Song of the Decade. Mariah followed that mega-hit up with the sparse "Shake It Off." The sassy track, which Rolling Stone praised as "bouncy," rose to #2 on the Hot 100 and made Mariah the first female to have solo songs occupy the top 2 positions on the Hot 100. The album's next single "Don't Forget About Us" took us back to the warm R&B of the 1990s and earned Mariah another #1 hit along with 2 Grammy nominations. The gospel jam "Fly Like A Bird" was an R&B hit, and a performance of the song earned her a standing ovation at the 2006 Grammy Awards. In the end The Emancipation Of Mimi was biggest selling album of 2005 and won Mariah three Grammys. Entertainment Weekly chose it as one of the best albums from 1993-2008, and Vibe named it one of the 50 greatest albums from 1993-2013.
In 2008 Mariah Carey released E=MC2, a modern R&B/hip-hop album which debuted at #1 with her largest opening week sales to date. Cheeky lead single "Touch My Body" would quickly become Mariah's 18th #1 hit. With its ascension to #1, Mariah broke a tie with Elvis Presley to take second place among artists with the most #1s on the Hot 100. The single also broke the record for the highest digital downloads debut total for a female artist to that point. The light, syncopated finger snapper was covered by Aretha Franklin and was a favorite workout song for Madonna. The playful video featured 30 Rock actor Jack McBrayer and became an instant classic music. "Bye Bye" found Mariah's lamenting her father's passing, though as is her wont, she wrote it in a context that allows everyone to relate. Stargate provided the strong drum beat for the track that The Houston Chronicle tagged as "a lighters-and-hands-in-the-air tribute to deceased loved ones." "I'll Be Loving U Long Time" is a lush, playful, track with tightly woven harmonies that manages to be a throwback to at least three different decades. Juzwiak noted that the song is the "work of unstoppable pop genius."
The following year Mariah released the feisty "Obsessed" as the lead single from Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. The synth-driven, pounding "Obsessed" showcased Mariah's talent for shade with lines like "You a mom and pop/I'm a corporation" and would become Mariah's 27th top 10 hit. The electronic track went Platinum and helped maintain Mariah's relevance nearly 20 years after the release of her first single. "HATEU" was a classic Mariah heartbreak ballad that found her deconstructing fairy tale romances. The mellow production moves slow like honey, with the lyrics breathing life into cliches.
In 2013 Mariah released the R&B throwback "#Beautiful." The collaboration with R&B star Miguel was a critically hailed, breezy duet that went Platinum and showed Mariah was still relevant nearly 25 years into her career. Mariah enters the track on the 2nd verse sounding like "her own personal girl group" (USA Today) and elevates the song to the level of thrilling. Pitchfork noted the track's "throwback charm" and named it one of the best singles of 2013. Mariah has stated that the album Me. I Am Mariah, from which "#Beautiful" hails, encapsulates her musical journey. "You Don't Know What To Do" reminds listeners of the pop royalty that is Mariah Carey. Slant says Mariah turns into the "calm, confident eye of a disco hurricane" on this roller rink jam. It's a throwback to Donna Summer, but also Mariah's effortless 90s classics like "Dreamlover" and "Heartbreaker."
The last track on this collection is the Stereo Anthem Mix of "Say Somethin.'" Mariah is known for being committed to the remix process (and her various club audiences), and the dark "Say Somethin'" remix is an edgy testament to that.
Over the past decade plus Mariah has cemented her legendary status. It feels like every other female artist that comes out is compared to Mariah, usually because she has been directly influenced by Mariah. The remarkable part is that Mariah is still their contemporary.

I have also thought an IDJ era hits set would be a good idea. They should package it with like...an EP of the best of Me I Am...and call it The Elusive EP or something. JK, kind of.
This would not be the sequence, I'm just going through each album in my head...
Through the Rain Bringin on the Heartbreak It's Like That We Belong Together Shake It Off Don't Forget About Us Say Somethin Fly Like A Bird Mine Again Touch My Body I'll Be Lovin U Long Time Migrate I'm That Chick Obsessed H.A.T.E.U. #Beautiful
Not sure which other tracks from the new album...I've probably picked too many though lol...

@ that muppet Donatella reviewing this album. I love her even more now. I honestly did not know she and Mariah were THAT close. Also, good to see the George Michael love. I feel like he would NOT lie if he didn't like her version.

I think most were predicting her to debut in or around that the first week :/. Yet, like others said, still thought it would be lower by now esp. the chart position. But the chart position is secondary. Sales are obviously more important and would've been better if she fell out of the Top 50 yet somehow sold around what she sold last week or more obviously. Would've shown even w/ zilch promotion word of mouth or whatever was keeping it afloat. Everything I noticed between the 40-50 range was very close.

Wow I didn't know her and Donatella were that close either. I always kind of assumed they just hung out at that one dinner party with Bey and went on their merry way.

There is nothing to sell the album at this point, so it's impressive that it hung on like that. Are we sure she's leaving IDJ? There hasn't been an official report, but considering the multiple delays Mariah has had with nearly every album since joining IDJ, the split between Island and Def Jam, and Mariah shading the label several times I can't imagine her signing back with them (as in, I doubt either wants to stay with the other). I'd imagine Mariah would prefer going where L.A. Reid is since they are friends (is he with Epic?), but I don't know what kind of deal they would give her.

Part of me makes me wonder if she approved this single cover simply because she preferred a different song to be released? She's got to be joking with us at this point.. Omg Is this 4 real? Can not believe they do not have 2,3 different photos But photoshop one for two covers ...

Some just use the word when it doesn't really mean it= they're just having fun with it.
Do we think Mimi will perform on America's Got Talent this summer?

I will never understand how this iconic moment gets forgotten… why is it iconic This isn't the library or history class, its a online forum. Its "iconic" because its two iconic women in their fields and a once upcoming, rising, but deceased young actress. The term iconic in this case refers to the fact that these three will never again take a picture together, its nostalgic and on a online forum if you sit there trying to define if 'lingo" is used in appropriate fashion, you will be blue in the face. i hope I helped?
