I'd put 2014 Forest Hills Drive up there, honestly. Thank you! It's honestly a better album than Kendrick's (though both are great). Big J. Cole fan here....been one since his pre-fame days....but this is crazy talk. Lol On a scale of 1-10 I'd give TPAB a 9.5 and FHD a 7.5

Just finished. Very impressive body of work. He makes big statements and finds interesting ways to keep my attention, even when I feel it might drift. While he is definitely missing the big highlights from GKMC, I like this album, as a whole, better.

The conversation at the end of the album with 2Pac is pure brilliance.

Lies you tell! The 1-2-3 combo of I Am A God/New Slaves/Hold My Liquor alone is just beyond. It's hard for me to compare J. Cole's album with TPAB. I think I prefer Kendrick, but I've preferred him since before either of them took off in the mainstream so that's probably a factor.

I'd put 2014 Forest Hills Drive up there, honestly. Did the physical hit stores any day last week? I think HITS said they were going to try to get them out, but then I heard nothing else about it. And the HITS projection actually went down by about 10k instead of up, so I figured the physical wasn't a factor. mmm 2014 FHD is a good album, but TPAB is better! Born Sinner is better than 2014 FHD too

What I liked about Mad City was that while he was talking about his issues, I could hear every song on the radio. It had that crossover. I don't hear that on this album. It's not a bad thing, it just loses replay value for me. I'm not saying this to compare, but I've played FHD so many times. It's the production, the songs are jams.

I agree. Sometimes for me, it just comes down to the type of music I prefer to listen to on a regular basis. The free-form, jazz-type style is not my usual cup of tea. I didn't really grow up listening to it and it never entered my rotation. That said, I can definite appreciate an album like this and recognize it as a modern-day masterpiece, albeit a flawed one. I still maintain that it's missing a Backseat Freestyle, BDKMV, Poetic Justice, and The Recipe but no song of that style would have fit this album conceptually, so I also completely understand why those types of songs don't exist here. While albums like Big Sean and J. Cole's latest get more play for me, I am very impressed with Kendrick for making this album when he did.

I love the album now. How Much A Dollar Cost is my favorite song at the moment.

I LOVE the version of "I" included on the album, I think it's much better than the single version. It makes more sense in the context of the album and is way more urgent. A standout for me. "King Kunta" is amazing. REALLY strong album.

After being submerged in TPAB for a few weeks, I went back and listened to his past discography. I was immediately shocked at how much he has improved with this album. His raps are just on a whole higher level this time around.
It probably helps that I like jazz to begin with. To me, the fusion is genius and natural.

Kendrick's new album really impressed me. There were so many good songs. My favorite was Wesley's Theory. I finally got around to listening to good kid madd city. That was excellent. I think he's gonna have a long career. I don't know if he'll ever try to be more commercial but I think his talent will keep him in the rap game.

Hasn't it had that rating pretty much since debut week? As I suspected, as much as I respect and appreciate the album, it has very little replay value for me as a whole.

Discounted to $6.99 on iTunes (probably for Father's Day).
Because nothing says Happy Father's Day like a Kendrick Lamar album lol.

There's no rapper doing what he's doing right now, visually or sonically. Love it. I hope this album eventually scans a million copies.
