American Top 40 - April 12, 2014

Caught an afternoon airing, today, whilst working.

I'm missing the first three optional extras if someone cares to fill in those blanks Thanks to jdelachjr2002 for the rest of the optional extras (the iHeart station's new "everything not on the chart is an extra" policy just isn't doing it for me, just makes it more confusing). Once again, they could have done a better job spacing the extras. There seems to be a bit of a pile-up around the middle of the chart.

The first three hours' Optional Extras were all skipped the first time through the countdown.

The first hour's Optional Extra was also skipped the second time through.

Just sent an e-mail inquiring about the other optional extras. We may need to run an affiliate list just to see which station does air the optionals (both CHR and HAC).

They actually appear to have caught up this week, for the most part - only a handful of songs are more than 2 notches off compared to the MB position from this week (the March 30 chart).

Weird. They just played those three segments in a row right after the countdown ended just before 11 p.m. EDT.

Then the countdown started again at 11:07.

Part of that pileup is the Jason Derulo extra, which could perhaps have been better used as part of a Two for One, since he has a current hit in the top 10 and that feature evidently wasn't used this week.

Not really a whole lot of movement, with a few exceptions such as "Not a Bad Thing" moving up 7, "Young Girls" dropping 11 (at least it kept Bruno's top 10 streak intact), and "Me and My Broken Heart" making a high debut, particularly impressive for a chart newcomer. "Not a Bad Thing", at this rate, should soon put Justin back in the top 10 after a couple of solo hits that stalled short of that. John Legend scores an AT40 "jackpot"; some might say that three 6's in a row isn't a good sign, but he's going to go higher.

Jamie Foxx said that no one was given the rights to "Annie" in 30 years, however, it was featured in "Serial Mom" which was released in 1994.

Just when you think we've got the iHeart station figured out...it's, now, Wednesday, 8:00 PM EDT and they STILL haven't started playing the 4/19 show, yet. Another replay of 4/12 just started a few minutes ago.

Hopefully this has more to do with the Easter break (they probably have this weekend's shows in the can but nobody to change the shows on the iHeart channel right now) than a coincidence.

Still the old show as of 8 a.m. EDT on Thursday. Grrr...

They've made a lot of changes this year on the iHeart AT40 channel. Most of them positive, I think.

They are now playing the show continuously as opposed to just once a day. They cut out most of the non-show extras. They haved moved toward starting the show at 12, 4 and 8 ET. And they (usually) premiere the new show on Wednesdays.

On the negative side, segments are still often missing -- especially the optional extras. And they are inconsistent about what time the new show premieres each week.
