Yeah, I'm not sure if her head is not in it or if 8 years away from the scene has made her lose touch but I really thought she'd be able to bring something fresh to the table. BDL was good but kind of a non-event and Spark The Fire is lame. I think she kind of put it perfectly in that these new songs sound like she's competing with her mid-2000s self (in execution and sound) rather than trying to break new ground or explore new styles.
I hope she had Charli XCX were able to do something good, I could see Gwen really pulling off something like Boom Clap.

What's interesting to me is that songs like Boom clap or Fancy sound like they could be Gwen's... Regarding No Doubt, I thought that songs like Push and Shove or Looking Hot were fresh enough to make some noise in the charts. For this era I don't think she was too far off on BDL: better vocal production, less lazy bridge and a good video could've also made a difference. The song is good enough and fresh / not following trends. So I still have hope but if her head is not fully into it, then her album maybe halfassed like these first two songs and her comeback may be a flop-back

I definitely feel she's lost touch a bit with the pulse of Pop music and I feel like Pharrell and the rest of the producers are enabling her creative tendencies instead of pushing her in a more progressive direction.

I guess she doesn't really have to be progressive though. She's got enough money in the bank that she can record whatever she wants-- any further success is optional, and gravy at that.
Of course, if she's going to stay in the same lane she was in some odd years ago, I would expect material that is at the very least on par with that work. I actually really like 'Baby Don't Lie', and 'Spark the Fire' is catchy, but it's terrible. The fact that she ditched the former for it isn't a good sign either.

What kills me is that there MUST be better tracks on the album. I know we're all going to listen to it and end up posting "OMG X, Y AND Z ARE SO MUCH BETTER CHOICES WHY WOULD THEY PICK SHIT LIKE SPARK THE FIRE??" I have a lot of hope in the rest of her material, but you know a lot of artists have no sense when it comes to releasing singles.

This album is bound to have some gems on it. TSE had some genuine turds on it, but they were thankfully surrounded by some great pop songs.
She released "Wind It Up" to launch the last album for Pete's sake... and quite frankly I think it's one of the worst lead singles released by a mainstream artist EVER. Just a mindbogglingly terrible song. But thankfully she had tracks like "Early Winter," "Wonderful Life," "4 In The Morning," etc. to balance out the crap.

I'm the only person in the world that really likes "Wind It Up", lmao! I find it so catchy and fun! The yodel is so addictive to sing. The chorus is blah but the verses are cool!

I didn't mind WIU. I thought it was a fun, novelty track to build buzz around the album. The video was dope too. The song had a short life but that was expected. I seriously think that Gwen could've done well by starting the era with STF: all this promo, video, performances could've signaled she was back. Then BDL could've continued with promo, linked to album release, and with better buzz due to its better quality. I'm scratching my head now

I loved Wind It Up. It obviously wasn't going to be a smash longevity hit, but it was fun and unique and creative. Great video too.

Also, that may have been the direction Gwen wanted to go in. Remember "Baby Don't Lie" was delayed two weeks in which there was speculation a new single was going to be serviced to Radio instead. Also, she never seemed that into discussing "BDL" and the interview she did with Ellen makes it sound like she is not happy how her music is being released. She's repeatedly said "Spark the Fire" took too long to to come out. In other news Gwen made a surprise appearance at KIIS-FM Jingle Ball in Los Angeles last night to perform "Spark the Fire" with Pharrell.

I'm hoping she sees some success and ASAP. I want 2015 to be a big year for her and I would love to see her on tour. Any news on when the album is releasing? Still set up for a January release?

I don't get the hate Wind It Up is getting. It was super creative and catchy as hell.
The new songs are nothing special although Baby Don't Lie had potential but it lacks something to make it stand-out. Spark the Fire is annoying as fuck though. I love her quirkiness and all but I personally prefer classy Gwen. Cool remains the best song she has ever recorded and I wish that was the direction for the new album. A song like that or Don't Speak; an honest vulnerable ballad is where she truly shines.

Yes, push that stupid song down people's throats, Gwenny Gwen Gwen and make them spark that fire everytime they listen to it. Also, I agree about Wind It Up which is BAE when it comes to Gwen uptempos. 4ITM and Early Winter are still her best solo songs over all though.

Was Pharrell drunk when he presented that award to Gwen? Anyway she kind of keeps blowing me away with how amazing she looks.

Who knows if we will ever hear this song, but it's been recorded. My guess is that it's for the voice:

I really hope they don't scrap this project. :( Why would they do that? Singles underperforming. Maybe they'll focus on ND. I hope not tho

I have seen projects scrapped before when singles under-performed miserably and the release date was never set. I don't think they will do that with someone of Gwen's status, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they regrouped and started over with a slightly redone project some time next year.

At least they never sent STF for adds, I have this weird feeling/hope she wrote with Taylor Swift after working with her on The Voice.

The Voice is over. This album will probably be scrapped unless she is doing The Voice in the spring of 2016. When does that start?

Isn't Christina back for Spring 2015 or is it Fall 2015? Not that they really capitalized on her being on the Voice this year.
