She better have performed the living sh!t out of Style. I am not here for sub-par performances of the perfect pop song.

Year-End rankings so far…I’ll just update this list as more come along (had to make a new post since I couldn’t properly quote my first). She's always gotten good critical reception with all of her releases, but 1989 seems to be resounding more critically (and commercially) than any of her other releases. Seems like they were all waiting for her move to Pop. 1989 - Added Stereogum, Time Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, TimeOut London, FasterLouder, PopCrush, Pretty Much Amazing, Digital Spy, musicOMH, The A.V. Club, NPR, PopMatters, SPIN, Pitchfork, USA Today, Noisey, Complex, Rob Sheffield, US Weekly, No Ripcord, Vogue “Shake It Off” - Added NME, PopMatters, TimeOut London, Consequence of Sound, Drowned In Sound, Billboard, The Guardian, BBC “Blank Space” - Added Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Pretty Much Amazing “Style” - Added The Line of Best Fit, Pitchfork, Noisey "Out Of The Woods" - Added Pitchfork "New Romantics" - Rob Sheffield, Vox 1989The Guardian - #12 The Telegraph - #5 American Songwriter - #4 Rolling Stone = #10 Stereogum - #22 Time Magazine - #4 The Line of Best FitCosmopolitan Magazine - #1 FasterLouder - #18 TimeOut London - #15 PopCrush - #1 Digital Spy - #2 Pretty Much Amazing - #17 musicOMH - #32 The A.V. When?
I'm also not sure what on 1989 was inspired by CHVRCHES (HAIM I kind of get due to I Wish You Would and Lorde I kind of get due to I Know Places and the Blank Space beat). Some of these reviews feel like they're made to overjustify the fact that reviewers liked a non-hipster pop album. Just be honest - you like it because it sounds good and Swift has a way with lyrics and melody, not because it somehow is a "cool" album.

I've never been a big fan of Taylor, but I decided to download 1989 on a whim and I'm so happy I did! It's something about the trifecta of Blank Space, Style, and Out of the Woods that just gives me what I need! I'm glad her team is on the same page re: single selection.
Blank Space is a perfect pop song. Every melody and vocal layer and harmony is exactly where it should be, yet the lyrics are fun and relatable. It's all genuine yet carefully constructed.
Style just gives me so much life, it makes no sense! It's so sexy and sophisticated, yet it's fun and effortless. And when the piano chords come in at the pre chorus?!?! Am I the only one that just gets their life right there?! Ugh!!
Nothing to say about Out of the Woods, it's just flawless. I feel so dumb for actively avoiding her when I could have been bopping for the last couple months to this brilliance. And Max had proven his genius and range time and time again. They're a great team.

I revisited her older material and I really can't stomach most of it bc it's SO country (apart from a few tracks that I had already been familiar with). Excited to see where she goes with this new Pop career.

The bridge of Shake It Off is still my favorite part of this album.

The bridge of Shake It Off is still my favorite part of this album. Judge away, pulse, judge away. The excellence of "Shake it Off" is due to be forgotten because it was jarring at the time and way overplayed, but none of this business magic happens if "Shake it Off" doesn't resonate with the masses. And while I might *currently* enjoy listening to Style and Blank Space more, I fully believe Shake it Off was the best way to launch the album cycle.

Shake It Off remains flawless but after listening to the album a million times it feels so out-of-place in both sound and lyrical content.

I've been listening to this non stop since its release and I always skip Shake It Off. The song was good but I'm burned out on it and it sounds like a misfit as others have said. It was perfect for launching the entire project though.

I have always found Shake It Off to be juvenile and would rank it as the second worst song on the album ahead of Welcome To New York. This Love and Bad Blood are meh but I wouldn't skip them. I like everything else.

I don't know how anyone could hate on Taylor Swift. She seems like the sweetest girl ever. And the fact that she has a collection of awkward pop star friends (Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Ariana) makes me love her even more.
I'm gonna need Bad Blood to be released as a single tho, as single #4. Videos are the make or break on the Hot100 right now, and with the right video, she could do big things.

It was perfect for launching the entire project though. I actually disliked the song when it was first released (not that it was terrible, but it wasn't her excellent songwriting standard), but after hearing it literally everywhere I go, it has grown on me lol. It's the horns I tell ya But SIO definitely works better as a radio single than being played together with the rest of the album.

"Shake It Off" is way out of the place. If you listen to the album in the proper tracklisting order. It comes right after "All You Had To Do Was Stay".It just doesn't match the rest of the album at all. IMO it is the worst on the album but doesn't mean it's a bad song althrough. The song was made for pop radio and for Taylor to officially launch herself as a popstar this era.

If "Shake It Off" is nominated for Record of The Year, she'll probably open the Grammys with that song just like she did 2 years ago with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". She's the biggest thing in music so I don't see why they wouldn't have her open the show again.

Of course it will nominated for Record of the Year, she brings her fan base to see the show, more audience.. Although it's pretty obvious she won't win it
