Like 1989 could be the pop album and Skyline could have been the country album. That would have been a wonderful idea. I hope that they release 1989 on vinyl. <3

I'm enjoying the Full Pop Taylor. I can sense some "Birthday"-esque disco type songs coming.

"First official pop album"... It'll be interesting to see country music's reaction.

"First official pop album"... It'll be interesting to see country music's reaction. To be honest, I'm glad she came out and just said already that it is her "first pop album." It will stop all the debate of whether or not the album is country. People can just focus on the actual music, and not which genre it is or isn't.

It will stop all the debate of whether or not the album is country. People can just focus on the actual music, and not which genre it is or isn't. I think it's a good thing, too, but I wonder how fans, radio, and her country colleagues will react. Then again, her fans will support her no matter what, and nothing will change that. I just think there's something to be said about the fact that she's officially leaving the genre that started it all for her. She "left" a few years back, but she threw country audiences a bone here and there. We'll see if she continues that, or just completely forgets about country music. This should all be very interesting, but it's kind of weird to know her album will not chart on the country charts... Will she stop being considered for ACMs, CMAs, CMTs??? I'm honestly curious to know how this will work because I don't think a country artist has ever fully left the genre in the dust. There's a handful of artists who've dabbled in other genres: Garth, Shania, Dolly, Reba, and Carrie come to mind, but they've always remained true to country. Will Taylor ever make a country album again? Will country fans accept her? I'm genuinely intrigued, and I think a move like she's making is brave and incredibly bold. She's a genius because announcing this album the way she did will create SO MUCH BUZZ!!! Buzz which will be talked about across all media outlets, all different radio stations, and all over the world. I wish her the best of luck, and I look forward to hearing her new music. I also love that the debate as to whether or not it's pop will be over, we'll be able to talk about the music itself and not which genre each song belongs to!

I'd assume the slower songs on the album will lean Country.

Didn't Leann Rimes leave country to make a pop album in 2002 and then came back 3 years later? I have to say I was genuinely shocked when she announced this as a pop album. It would be strange not seeing her at the next award shows. I'm still holding out hope that she recorded 3-4 songs for country radio.

The Country Music Association tweeted a little while ago to say they're sad to see her go but they've loved watching her grow.
I wouldn't expect to see any nominations in the country genre. She may be back but I respect her for coming out and saying "this is pop."

Taylor might remix a few songs for Country radio.

I like that Taylor is running this press conference herself. Britney can't even handle a live interview.Yeah, that really wasn't necessary. I'll never understand why people feel the need to bring up Britney in threads that have absolutely nothing to with her. I guess she's got your mind and isn't letting go. Anyway... I'm not feeling 'Shake It Off' yet. As of now, it's by far my least favorite lead single of hers. The video is super cute, though. Is anyone else having trouble pre-ordering the album? When I try to open the iTunes link, I get an error message and the program crashes, and the Target pre-order page cannot be found. Ugh. >:(

I wouldn't expect her to do shit with country this era. Not for album tracks, not for remixes, not for award shows, not for duets. She transitioned to pop nicely and she may decide to go back at some point, but I don't think she'll be messing around with anything that distracts her from pop domination this time around.

I fully support her full-on pop transition. Shake It Off sounds great on first listen and I cannot wait for 1989! Bring it on Tay!!

I love her. I love her and her team. I love what they have done. I love the look they have gone with. I love the song they went with. I just love how they work. The fact that nothing leaked? Absolutely impressive.
Mod: LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!!! (Really, leave that topic alone here.)

It will stop all the debate of whether or not the album is country. People can just focus on the actual music, and not which genre it is or isn't. Agreed. The bulk of criticism for Taylor the past few years seems to be from Country fans, who might actually support her in Pop, but not as a Country artist. I think this will change some perceptions of her, but in a good way, because a lot of people thought she should have made this move awhile ago. I don't think this will be comparable to LeAnn Rimes moving to Pop, though. The bulk of Taylor's sales come from those fans, she's fully embracing her move to Pop, and she really would probably be better off there, anyway, considering Pop fans will embrace her and (likely) not spew the venom Country fans have.

Artists grow over time so it's not surprising to see her move away from country. As long as she keeps her musical identity and can differentiate herself among the other pop stars, she'll continue to do fine.

Yass! Taylor serving that ratchet bop realness! What kind of CDC-grade microscope are you using to find the "ratchet" in this song?

LeAnn Rimes going back to country was a totally different situation though as her return there seemed desperate after she had flopped with her pop album(s?). I doubt the same will happen with Taylor since her transition has already been tested with Red and it worked 100%. If this era is successful she can basically do any genre she wants with the next album and no one will have anything to criticize her for. Plus, I'm sure the fans she'll gain in Europe, Australia etc. with this new album will more than make up for any losses within the US-based country audience.

Plus Taylors a lot bigger than Leanne Rimes was, so she has that advantage too.

Taylor has nothing to lose by going full pop at this point in her career. It's not like female artists are played on Country radio any longer.
