Hopefully this is the right place for this thread.
I had always known who Linda was, and was familiar with cover versions of her songs:
Reba McEntire - "You're No Good" Mindy McCready - "Long, Long Time" Michelle Wright - "Love Has No Pride" Dolly Parton - "The Tracks Of My Tears" Terri Clark - "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me"
I had never really heard her own versions of her songs until recently. And yeah, a lot of her songs are actually cover versions of older songs. I've always known that she's Trisha Yearwood's biggest influence, but after I saw Trisha last month and she performed a couple of Linda's songs, I decided to get an album of Linda's and dive into her hits. I got her album The Collection, which is a two disc album that contains 46 Linda Ronstadt songs. I am so impressed with this album. I think you can really hear the roots of a lot of 1990-2000s country female artists on this album. I would recommend Linda's catalog to anyone who likes Trisha, Reba, Martina, Faith, Shania, Wynonna, etc., as well as 70s acts like Carole King and Dolly Parton. I can hear Linda as a bridge between 70s rock and 90s country.

Great post. I confess I'm not familiar with Linda Ronstadt's music at all, but I know she is widely acclaimed and is cited as influence by numerous country artists. I've been meaning to learn more about her for the longest time but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I just listened to her takes on several country classics like "Crazy Arms" and "I Still Miss Someone" on Youtube and really liked what I heard. I will definitely have to pick up some of her albums. Great stuff!

I LOVE HER. I, too, wasn't very familiar with her for a long, long time (cheesy pun intended ), but in November I heard "You're No Good" for the first time and it was love at first listen. I have most of her albums on vinyl and a few on CD. My favorites are "Mad Love", "Heart Like A Wheel", "Hasten Down The Wind", and "Get Closer".

Saw this and just came here to comment that I caught a 60 minutes special on Linda Ronstadt a while back. I had no idea she had parkinson's :(
Threads/posts like this just make me happy there is a country forum available where we all can discover so many great artists that have had a great impact on country music. I always loved Terri Clark's "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" and it took me years to finally realize and appreciate the original artist. Linda also joined Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris for the award winning Trio album in 1987.
