What's the tempo for "Single For The Summer"? Is it at least mid-tempo? I'm hoping for a summer-y song as the title suggests. I got a bit nervous when Sam announced "Take Your Time" as the next radio single. That's a slow tempo song and we all know it's much more difficult to get radio airplay when the song is slow even though the lyrics are beautifully written. I think he needs at least a mid-tempo as a 2nd single to avoid losing all the momentum he's got now. The only slow song that might work is "Speakers". I went to Sam's concert and the women went absolutely crazy when he sang that song. This probably got the best crowd response among his non-radio singles. I assume the new single won't be released to radio until January, so UMG/Hunt's management should have plenty of time to analyze the sales stats from iTunes and get feedback from radio PDs. I'm hoping they realize there are smarter choices than "Take Your Time" as the 2nd single. "Single For The Summer" is mid/uptempo. It's definitely NOT a slow song. The melody is infectious, the lyrics fit that summer vibe.

May as well choose a summer song even though the add date is in January.

One of my contacts told me that Sam said at a recent show that "House Party" would be his next single.
In any case, I doubt it's decided yet. I'm sure they have their ideas, but they probably have 2-3 months yet to figure out what to go with next.

I can see that as a single and he doesn't 'rap' the verses, he talks. Rap to me is fast and rhythmic. So while the verses are a big rhythmic in places, It's just not Rap. Saying rap is 'fast' is like saying all country music is 'slow.' I haven't heard the song to comment on whether it's rap or not to my ears, but the recent handful of country songs that have gotten flack for maybe being rap don't sound anything like the talking songs of country music past. Like there's a pretty decided difference between "Dirt Road Anthem" and George Strait in (parts of) songs like "I'll Always Remember You" or "Give It Away." And this one doesn't either from the live acoustic version I heard yesterday. Denying this song (and many other recent "country" songs) aren't steeply footed in rap music is simply smoke and mirrors. I'm not saying its a bad song but comparing "Take Your Time" with "Devil Went Down To Georgia," & "Amos Moses is laughable at best and possibly out and out dishonest.

Big +156 spin update today, so it's now #7 on Mediabase's rolling chart.

On The Verge was only about a 6-week 'promotion' when the song was released where "Leave The Night On" was basically put into rotation all across the Clear Channel platform, which resulted in Sam leap-frogging a lot of other artists on the chart. But that program ended a couple months ago already, and radio has just been naturally increasing its airplay since then, based on sales as well as research and just hype in general.

He really seems like he's going to be a big star. He seems to be especially popular with females. Not sure if he'll stay in the country genre, as some of his songs sound like big Pop hits to my ears, but it's looking like he's going to be huge. I'm not a fan of this song, in fact, it's one of my least favorites charting right now, but at least this song seems to be earning it's radio play, it's hard to argue against it's popularity.

I gotta admit I've really grown to like this. Granted, I never disliked it, but the fact that it's not country is irksome considering that's the format it's being played on. It'd fit in the playlist at CHR so much better imo. But at any rate, this is a catchy tune. The melody is fire and I live for the way he sings the words "again" and "wind" during the chorus.

Considering this and "Raised On It" are his most 'country' songs on the Montevallo album, get ready to be 'irked' a lot if he becomes the format's next superstar, which I'm fully expecting.

This guy becoming the "format's next superstar" will solidify my belief that sooner rather than later, those who want to hear country music and those listening to country radio will be two entirely different groups of people.

It'd fit in the playlist at CHR so much better imo. You might get to hear it there before long - I see today that a HAC programmer has it listed under their Hot Picks choices on AllAccess, which may indicate an upcoming crossover push.

That really is more where it belongs, as much as I do like the song. With the way it's been climbing, I can see it #1 in about 3 weeks. Jason Aldean will probably get 2 weeks, and then the question will be whether this hits #1 before or after Blake Shelton does.

I'm hoping for house party to be his second single. Also I wish they would release his version of cop car which made it on the album surprisingly , as a single but I know there no chance of that happening.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I like his voice especially. I do agree that it sounds like it would fit right into CHR.

Album was released just minutes ago and "Montevallo" is already #2 all genre (behind Taylor Swift) and #1 on iTunes Country (ahead of FGL/Jason Aldean). Holy crap!!!

Break Up In a Small Town is awesome! I'm sure it will be on repeat for days! It's surely the next single! If there were ever a country guy singer who has the perfect non-twang voice for a pop cross-over, it's this guy! He's definitely in the same category as Parmalee. My only beef with him is how he goes from talking (or rapping? Not sure what that is) to singing in verses.

Sad day for country music. I'll post my thoughts on the album in the listening thread, for anyone who has a shred of interest.

He's definitely a pop/R&B inspired guy who happens to write stories that seem to fit country better. Sam Hunt will likely always be a divisive artist for 'traditionalists.' Even those who think that Garth Brooks or Keith Urban are 'traditional' country.

I have a hunch "Leave the Night On" will reach higher peak airplay levels than "Burnin' It Down" but only get one week at #1. Jason Aldean got so lucky with his single's chart timing, and even despite the huge lead he had on Sam Hunt and others for so many weeks, "Burnin' It Down" just barely sneaked in its second week at #1 on Mediabase and I expect a similar photo finish on Billboard's airplay chart this week. I'm not saying Sam Hunt shouldn't rejoice that his first single with a major label has become such a big hit, but it might be frustrating for his label to come so close to getting a well-deserved multi-week #1, especially if this single does in fact get to higher airplay levels than Jason's two-week #1. Maybe "Neon Light" will start to slow down and Blake's label will wait until Sam Hunt's single has gotten two weeks at #1 to do a #1 push, but I'm expecting a situation where "Night On" and "Light" are each held to only one week at #1 on both charts.

I am so glad that this is #1. I have liked it a lot since it first came out and still turn up the radio whenever it comes on. I hope he has success with follow-up singles.

Assuming this hits #1 (all but guaranteed), Sam Hunt will be the first solo male artist to hit #1 with his debut single since 2010 when Easton Corbin did it with "A Little More Country Than That".

Markus Meyer i thought he had a song out called Raised On It as his debut single though? Doesn't that count?

Markus Meyer i thought he had a song out called Raised On It as his debut single though? Doesn't that count? Nope. It was released to iTunes, and received play on SiriusXM, but was never officially released I believe. Just as "Ready Set Roll" was Chase Rice's debut single, even though "How She Rolls" received some airplay.

That's like night and day. Corbin's "A little more country than that" was a nice piece of country pie. I never thought a song with that style would hit #1. It was almost "too country" for the radio at that time. Now you have a 90's pop musician that somehow sneaks onto country radio taking the reigns from Easton
