1. Keith Anderson - I'll never understand how this guy lost his contract. First Album goes Gold. Three top 10 hits from the first two albums plus 3 more Top 40's, though his last two single releases were admittedly duds. I routinely hear his songs on the radio. Loved his music. Loved his voice. Found him to be quite unique.
2. Dirt Drifters - first, and only, album was incredible. I think they broke up. What a shame.
3. Greg Bates - seriously, his first song is Top 5. His second song (Fill in the Blank, which I thought was great, fizzles). He gets an EP released and then he's dropped - all within the course of a year. What a fickle business. Great development of talent, BIG Machine subsidiary!
4. Josh Turner - What?!? he's still recording?!? You wouldn't know it by the frequency of album releases or the number of singles he's able to squeak out. Love Josh. He must be methodical, because Toby outproduces Josh by 3 to 1.
Who would you like to see get a contract again?

^ Josh is still with MCA. And to answer you're question on why Keith lost his record deal with Columbia, four words..."Somebody Needs A Hug". Awful song and awful single choice. "Adaliene" being left as an album track is unforgivable. His debut album was great outside of "Wrap Around".
My top 5:
1. Carolina Rain (they needed to be on a bigger label. Equity did their best but it was just too much to overcome. Never did not like a single song I heard from these guys. Great harmonies and great songwriting)
2. Blaine Larsen (did I miss something here? He had a great voice, a knack for songwriting, and he was super young and still is)
3. Katrina Elam (basically just what I said about Blaine. Great vocals, great songwriter and she's gorgeous)
4. Jeff Bates (he actually had painfully slow climbs up the charts during his first album. Then "Good People" tanked and that was the beginning of the end. What a classic country voice)
5. The Farm (they will probably going to release new music soon on a smaller label but I hate how one single only peaks at #37 and they get dropped 6 months later)
Honorable mention: Greg Bates, Walker Hayes, Brice Long, Amy Dalley, Wade Bowen (Sea Gayle/BNA contract), Whiskey Falls, Rebecca Lynn Howard, SHeDaisy)

Greg Bates, by far. They never should have dropped him!

K.T. Oslin!! After seeing her show in Franklin last October, she still has it! The voice, emotion, stage presence, and is still writing! I would love nothing more than 1 great album from her! At 72 K.T. is still on fire musically!

Jo Dee Messina, though with another label instead of Curb. I'm glad she got out of that one, but it does suck that she has no shot at getting back on radio because I think she could have some more hits yet.
Ashton Shepherd is another big one. Her first two albums are fantastic and her voice and music style are desperately needed in the industry today much like a female version of Easton Corbin.
Deana Carter as well. She's one of my all-time favorites and I always felt like her career should've panned out much better than it did after such a promising start. On that note, add Gretchen Wilson as well for the same reasons.
Luckily all of these artists have put out indie records in the last couple years, but their presence on the radio and lack of success that can only come from having a bigger label is unfortunate.
I also strongly agree with the mentions of Sunny Sweeney and SHeDAISY. <3

It's 3:25 AM so my brain is dead. Therefore, only one artist comes to mind right now. That artist is Blaine Larsen. The dude was a very solid songwriter and had a killer voice for his age. ''How Do You Get That Lonely'' gets me every time.

Dirt Drifters, Ray Scott, Jeff Bates ( loved Good People), Keith Anderson, Troy Olsen ( Why this guy isn't a success is beyond me. Modern traditional sound thats unique!), Greg Bates, Bradley Gaskin, Jacob Lyda should've had a better shot and some of the canadian artists like Dean Brody and The Road Hammers I thought were great. If I had to go back to the 90s I'm surprised a Wade Hayes, Rick Trevino, and Tracy Byrd didn't have Tracy lawrence and Clay Walker like staying power at the very least.
**EDIT**
add Lane Turner and Western Underground ( Ledoux's old band that still tours)

^ that's not a bad idea lol
Jessica Andrews would be my choice. Still not sure how she didn't become huge. Beautiful, interesting voice an arguably her blandest song becomes her only hit. She also left stellar songs on all her albums which is probably why she didn't hit :/

^ that's not a bad idea lol I will throw Jessica Andrews in. Still not sure how she didn't become huge. I put Jessica at #42. Two comeback attempts were hampered by bad single choices. "The Marrying Kind" wasn't the best choice for a lead, then they rushed out "Summer Girl" in the middle of Summer. Then in 2008, "Everything" wasn't that good IMO, especially for a lead single.

I fixed it I loved her albums though. I am shocked no one else has picked up "When Gentry Plays Guitar"

Hal Ketchum Jason Sellers Jon Randall Clay Davidson Jenny Simpson Is Jason Sellers the guy who sang "That's Not Her Picture"? Yes, but it was never a single. The song was also cut by John Michael Montgomery for his Brand New Me album. That's a Bill Anderson co-write as well. Jason didn't even write it which is of course his calling card now and days.

My dad had his cd and listened to that song all the time. He had a good voice from what little I heard of him.

My favorite Hal song is actually "Just This Side Of Heaven" which died at #45 on R&R in early 2006.

1. Blaine Larsen (too bad he gave up on the industry, he was just too damn good not to get another deal somewhere down the line)
2. Pat Green (never understood how Wave On Wave did so well, but his other excellent songs could never reach the top 10)
3. Greg Bates (fingers crossed he'll get a deal soon)
4. Carolina Rain (basically a great 90's band that came around a decade too late)
5. SHeDAISY (one of many victims of Lyric Street's ineptitude)

Rachel Proctor (Me and Emily was fantastic) 5. Jennifer Hanson 6. Jeff Bates 7. Rebecca Lynn Howard 8. Katrina Elam (loved Love Is) 9. Blue County 10. SHeDAISY (goes without saying)
Plus many other that have also been mentioned
