Just found out about it on Facebook. Very sad but glad he's finally out of pain. Rest in peace Casey.

The industry loses it's biggest icon, friend, giant, god no words can describe this man. So sad to lose him.. Keep your feet in the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.....

Now how long will Premiere still carry American Top 40 - The 70's and American Top 40 - The 80's? At least until the end of this year?
I also hope next weekend current AT40 host Ryan Seacrest makes mention of Casey's passing.
Too bad I don't get American Top 40 - The 70's where I live anymore since Chicago radio station WLS 94.7 FM dropped it in November 2013.

Casey's estate gets paid royalties for the show but his estate does not own it personally. Premiere will carry it for as long as it is deemed a money maker.

Today is, truly, a sad day for many of us. In the past few weeks, we knew it was coming. But it still stings. :'(
I, first, became hooked on music charts and countdowns back in 1991 when I first discovered Dick Clark's Countdown America. As the months passed, I found myself latching on to other countdown shows -- Shadoe's AT40, Rick Dees, and Casey's Top 40. It was Casey's show that, quickly, became my favorite and the one that I looked forward to listening to the most every weekend. There was always something comforting about hearing Casey's voice on the radio every weekend. I remember reading an interview with Casey somewhere at some point where he mentioned that he would always make it a point to speak TO his listeners, not AT them. That always came through in his presentation and, somehow, made his countdown seem more personal. All of the other nationally syndicated countdowns that came and went in the years that followed owe a debt to Casey. It was Casey's concept of the original AT40 that paved the way for them.
Casey, thank you for the 39 years you spent "counting 'em down" and entertaining us every week. You will be missed. May you keep watching down on us from the stars that you always encouraged us to reach for...with feet, firmly, planted on the ground.
R.I.P.

A true legend. I used to listen to AT40 every weekend when I was a kid. It's tragic what a mess his final days were.

I still remember watching him host the Top 50 Videos of 1995 on VH1, even before I began regularly listening to him on American Top 40. He was an integral part of my childhood, and there will never be another like him. Rest in peace.

Very, very sad day. Like many on this board (and especially the old R&R boards), our music love started with listening to Casey's Top 40 (and its various incarnations). I used to listen every weekend. I recently found AT40's Rewind on a Worcester lite rock station and enjoyed listening to it.
RIP Casey Kasem. "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars."

Good to hear that again! I grew up enjoying listening to the Sunday morning count downs hosted by Casey Kasem. I'll never forget that voice! I always loved the long-distance dedications the best.
