Brian McComas
His second album was really quite good. All Comes Flooding Down is a classic country song

Remember them? They came at the end of the Boot Scoot country line dancing era. But they were quite good, "Nothing in Common But Love" and "Young Love" were quite good. They came and went after one album. Sad though, the female lead can really sing.

Their latest (and last) album was #1 on both the Country and Christian Albums charts. And the album is still #1 on the Christian chart and still hanging high on the country chart now. I would guess a #1 is indicative that an artist has made it. :)

The almost non-existent radio success was extremely disappointing to me, which is why I included them on here. Their albums have always done fairly well all things considered.

The #1 album Joey + Rory got was only on special circumstances though (they wouldn't have had a #1 album if Joey had not made headlines for her illness). Before that final record, the best any of their albums did was scrape the Top 10 of the country charts (their first two records -- the more recent ones didn't even do that well), and like zaclord 🌈 said, they had non-existent country radio support. Most of the other artists he listed were actually far more successful so it's a bit odd that Joey + Rory would stand out on that list of all acts. Kellie Pickler had multiple #1 albums and many of them had some pretty big radio hits as well.

Agree, Kellie Pickler doesn't fit into the list either.

Kellie was included because she never became the star she deserved to be in my opinion, and she no longer scores any radio success, and even during the times that she did, she only scored one top 10 hit and was never nominated for a major ACM/CMA award (unless she snuck in a nom for Best New Artist and I don't remember). She's stayed fairly visible and is the most well-known out of anyone on my list, but for her TV show, Dancing With The Stars, presenting on award shows, etc. and less so for her music over the years. So maybe she did "make it" but it wasn't to the extent or duration to which I believe she deserved

Jack Ingram, Andy Griggs, Kellie, Keith Anderson, Joey + Rory, Jimmy Wayne, Heidi Newfield (solo and Trick Pony) and SHeDAISY all really don't belong here, others could be argued too. Superstars? Nah. But not every artist ever is gonna be that. Many here also still tour and/or write.

Wow! Damn that Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks, why do fans have to place that bar so high." Sobbing....

Kellie Pickler "made it" so to speak, but she never hit it big like I'm sure a lot of us would've liked to have seen happen (myself included -- she's one of my all-time favorites). I hate that she hasn't had anything resembling a hit at country radio in like 5 years. Ugh. She's just so good and deserves better. :'(

Steel Magnolia. Been listening to their album the past week and totally floored they didn't become huge. Their voices sounded perfect together

One of my best finds recently was a Maxwell House sampler CD called "The Taste of Country", which had various RCA artists on it. One of them was Ray Vega with his only charting single, "Remember When". His full album was never released, so I was glad to find that. Na na na na na na na na na na na naaaaaaa. All I wanna doooo is rememmmmmmber whennn... YEP, I remember "Remember When" when it came out by Ray back in late 1996.
