I bought a few CD's at a yard sale a few days ago, and one was from this Duo called "Blake & Brian". I never heard of them before but i like discovering artists i never heard of before. This was their only album as they broke up the duo after 2 years they were signed on Curb and had a top 50 single "Another Perfect Day". Here's their wiki page for more info. Blake & BrianIf you guys know of other unknown singers, duos, bands that didn't make it very far until they called it quits share them here.

There's a bunch, that only had one or two singles and were never heard from again. But one I always gravitate to was Matt Jenkins. He's now just a songwriter and gave up trying to be a recording artist after he was dropped from Universal South in 2006. He only had two singles. The first in 2005 with "King Of The Castle" (#48 on R&R). The second was "Bad As I Want To" (#54 on R&R) in 2006. He had some other songs I've heard that never made his album I'm Just A Man as both singles flopped but they were great as well, along with a self-released EP in 2008. He co-wrote "Cop Car" by Keith Urban, "Runnin' Out Of Air" by Love and Theft, "Where It's At" by Dustin Lynch and "Stripes" by Brandy Clark. I really wish he would have caught on somewhere else and not decided to give up the artist thing.

They did have two top 40 singles, but those were Whiskey Falls only two singles for Midas. "Last Train Running" pleaded at #31 on MB in October of 2007 and "Falling Into You" got to #39 on MB in early 2008. They decided to not stay as a permanent band though, and it really was a shame too, because they had such a distinctive sound and material.
They came back together for a Christmas song in 2011 called "Rudolf Guide My Way" and again last year for an iTunes single called "Fast Talkin' Lover"

3 of Hearts came to mind right away for some reason...Only top 40 (#39?) hit was a Christmas song (Their version of NewSong's "The Christmas Shoes") Love is Enough peaked at # 43 I believe.

Here's few off the top of my head. Song peaks may be a little off...
2000's SIXWIRE ("Look At Me Now" #26; they are now the house band for the TV show Nashville and still perform together ~once a month) HANNA-MCEUEN ("Something Like A Broken Heart" #38; disbanded) CAROLINA RAIN ("Isn't She" #26; "Get Outta My Way" #28; they have disbanded) HALFWAY TO HAZARD ("Daisy" #38) MARSHALL DYLLON ("Live It Up" #37; disbanded) RUSHLOW ("I Can't Be Your Friend" #16; fronted by Tim Rushlow; disbanded) DREW DAVIS BAND ("Back There All The Time"; didn't reach the top 50) SHANE MCANALLY ("Are Your Eyes Still Blue" #32; now a successful songwriter) HOT APPLE PIE ("Hillbillies" #25; fronted by Brady Seals; disbanded) PINMONKEY ("Barbed Wire & Roses" #26; "Let's Kill Saturday Night" #42; disbanded)
1990's SOUTH 65 (no songs in the top 50; disbanded) RIVER ROAD ("Nickajack" #37; "I Broke It, I'll Fix It" #48; "Breathless" #42; disbanded but recently reunited and released an EP) BURNIN' DAYLIGHT ("Say Yes" #37; "Love Worth Fighting For" #48; fronted by Marc Beeson; disbanded) FRAZIER RIVER (no songs in the top 50; still performing in Cincinnati as the Danny Frazier Band) ROBERT ELLIS ORRALL ("Boom! It Was Over" #19; still writing and producing) SHANE MINOR ("Slave To The Habit" & "Ordinary Love" both top 25; now a successful songwriter) PALOMINO ROAD ("Why Baby Why" #46; fronted by Ronnie Guilbeau; disbanded) REGINA REGINA ("More Than I Wanted To Know" #53; Regina Leigh & Regina Nicks; disbanded) BUFFALO CLUB ("If She Don't Love You" #9; founded by John Dittrich after Restless Heart broke up; disbanded) BROTHER PHELPS ("Let Go" #6; were previously members of the Kentucky Headhunters; disbanded)

Here's few off the top of my head. Song peaks may be a little off... HANNA-MCEUEN ("Something Like A Broken Heart" #38; disbanded) CAROLINA RAIN ("Isn't She" #26; "Get Outta My Way" #28; they have disbanded) RUSHLOW ("I Can't Be Your Friend" #16; fronted by Tim Rushlow; disbanded) HOT APPLE PIE ("Hillbillies" #25; fronted by Brady Seals; disbanded) PINMONKEY ("Barbed Wire & Roses" #26; "Let's Kill Saturday Night" #42; disbanded) BURNIN' DAYLIGHT ("Say Yes" #37; "Love Worth Fighting For" #48; fronted by Marc Beeson; disbanded) Hit the nail on the head with all of these. :) * "Something Like A Broken Heart" got to #31 on R&R and one of my all-time favorite songs. I have no idea why they didn't release "Fool Around" as the follow up. DreamWorks closing didn't help either. * Carolina Rain is my all time favorite band of the 2000's (no, seriously). As much as I loved "Dealin'", the follow up to "Isn't She" should have been "How It Should Be'". They never recorded one single song I didn't like. Please come back guys. * I also adored Rushlow Harris and their only two singles ("That's So You" got to #44 on R&R, and "Bagpipes Cryin'" got to #42 on MB) * Too bad DreamWorks closed and Hot Apple Pie got lost in the shuffle when the moved briefly to MCA. Their only album was so unique with amazing instrumentation and production. "Easy Does It" was a very underrated song (#48 on R&R). * Another Pinmonkey single was "I Drove All Night" (#32 on R&R) * "Say Yes" was a great song and Marc Beeson was a superb songwriter, as evidence by "Be Grateful" by The Farm. I would also add Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband and Donovan Chapman in there as well.

I first heard of Blake & Brian on a set of Crook & Chase discs I got from around September 1997. I tried to find stuff on them for years, but I could only find a review of their album in Country Standard Time. It was just enough for me to make the Wikipedia article.
Dustin J. mentioned a lot of my favorites. It should be noted that with Brother Phelps, Doug Phelps has since returned to the Kentucky Headhunters, taking his brother Ricky Lee's former role as lead singer. Robert Ellis Orrall also had a pop hit in the early 80s with Carlene Carter on "I Couldn't Say No".
Ryan Shupe & the RubberBand were great. I think Capitol made a HUGE mistake by going for "Banjo Boy" as the second single — it was great, but too "out there", and as a result it didn't chart at all.
I have an album by a duo called the Marie Sisters. Somehow I remember hearing "Real Bad Mood" a lot, even though it didn't chart very high. I can't figure out what Chaz and Kessie are doing now.
One of my best finds recently was a Maxwell House sampler CD called "The Taste of Country", which had various RCA artists on it. One of them was Ray Vega with his only charting single, "Remember When". His full album was never released, so I was glad to find that.

The harmonies of Beeson, Kurt Howell, & Sonny LeMaire were spectacular. Did you know they weren't looking for a record deal? They just wanted someone to cut their songs. Curb liked them so much they signed them to a record deal and released a full-length album. They tested a single titled "Wreckin' Ball" (which I have) from a sophomore album they were working on. The single didn't test well, for some reason. They were then dropped from Curb and disbanded shortly thereafter. -- Donovan Chapman's "House Like This" and "Panama City" were both a little quirky and cliched, but I really enjoyed both.

Chaz is still quite active and plays alot of shows in TX. Found her on facebook quite a while back and she is always posting. I believe there is a music player on her page with some solo songs that she has recorded. Their album I always thought was quite good and I was hoping they would make it, but they didn't. Chaz looks good too! Kessie seems like a "B"....I remember I sent a friend request to her quite a while back and she denied it. The only "ex" singer that has not accepted a request from me....but she seems a little more on the religious side to me, so it's ok she denied me!

Donovan Chapman had a few songs out before "House Like That", but they were on a different label I believe. I remember WKCQ in Saginaw spun "House Like That" a lot, which was weird since they almost NEVER added song that were below the Top 20. He was one of many artists to get stiffed by Category 5 going out of business.
I also have the entire Burnin' Daylight album somewhere but I never listened to anything other than "Say Yes", which was fabulous.
One of the other never-made-it bands from 1997 was the Buffalo Club. I remember WATZ was still playing "If She Don't Love You" ten years ago, and I even heard "Nothing Less Than Love" now and then. Those were the only top 40 hits for the ENTIRE LABEL.
Finally, I got Jeff Wood's Between the Earth and the Stars a while back. "You Just Get One" is great. Wood actually contacted me after I made his Wikipedia article, and thanked me for creating it by sending me a copy of an indie album he did a few years ago.

Darryl & Don Ellis was a brother duo that never made it big. They were recording for Epic records in the mid 1990's, and back then, if you were a duo on a major label, you pretty much automatically qualified to be one of the CMA Vocal Duo nominees that would be given the chance to lose to Brooks & Dunn.

Another singer/songwriter that never made it was Brice Long. He was on Columbia in 2005 and tried three singles at country radio from 2005 to 2006 with "It's Only Monday" (Didn't Chart), "Anywhere But Here" (#49 on R&R), and "Meat And Potato Man" (Didn't chart). The former completely flopped and to this day I don't exactly know why. He was on a major label and the song was fantastic, and he had some momentum with a radio tour that year which for some reason didn't work. The next single was the fabulous "Anywhere But Here" which got to #49. It's the same song that Chris Cagle recorded and released as a single (not a smart decision to release the same song as a single that another artist tried just a few months prior, especially after Chris' "Wal-Mart Parking Lot" bombed). To me Brice's is far superior to Chris' and I loved Chris' album of the same name. Then "Meat And Potato Man" bombed as well, and he was soon dropped, though his album was released digitally.
He's since been a songwriter. Some of his co-writes include "Sorry" by Gary Allan off his Smoke Rings In The Dark album, "Today" and "Nothing On But The Radio" also by Gary Allan, "Anything Goes" by Randy Houser and Jon Pardi's latest single "What I Can't Put Down".
Artist: Brice Long Single: "Anywhere But Here" Label: Columbia Nashville Year Released: November, 2005 Radio and Records Peak: #49 Billboard Peak: #51

I'm a junkie for one-hit and one-album wonders. I realize that some of these may still write or perform live here and there but their country music careers certainly never took off.
Claudia Church Lisa Angelle Bomshel (original duo with Buffy Lawson) Redmon & Vale Julie Reeves Carter's Chord Mica Roberts Coley McCabe Jolie & The Wanted Marcel The Lynns Crystal Shawanda The Kinleys (they had 3 albums but IMO they never truly 'made it' before calling it quits) Danni Leigh (ditto; 4 albums but most wouldn't know her and not even close to a hit single)

Scotty Emerick was awesome. Listening to "I Can't Take You Anywhere." The fact he's been nonexistent the past 8-10 years other than the occasional songwriting credit here and there is downright criminal.
Come back Scotty. :(

Burnin' Daylight was great! "Love Worth Fighting For " and "Say Yes" are both on my iPod. Carolina Rain's album is a guilty pleasure of mine. Hot Apple Pie fronted by former Little Texas member Brady Seals. Little Texas was one of my favorite country bands. Anyways how about Boy Howdy? Anyone remember them? They were fronted by songwriter Jeffrey Steele. They had several charting songs including 2 top 10 hits "She'd Give Anything" (#4 on BB) and "They Don't Make 'Em Like That Anymore" (#2 on BB). Also had a top 15 hit "A Cowboy's Born With A Broken Heart" (#12 on BB). There was also a group I believe in the 2000's called Hometown News. They had a minor top 40 called "Minivan" which peaked at #37 on BB in 2002. The Clark Family Experience had a top 20 hit in 2000 with "Meanwhile Back At The Ranch" (#18 on BB). Also had a moderate top 40 hit "Standin' Still (#36 on BB). As far as artists go here are a few that come to mind listed below with their biggest hits and Billboard peaks. James Bonamy- "I Don't Think I Will (#2), "She's Got A Mind Of Her Own (#26), "All I Do Is Love Her" (#27), "The Swing" (#31) Perfect Stranger- "You Have The Right To Remain Silent" (#4) (Their only top 40 hit) James House- "This Is Me Missing You" (#6 in 1995), "Little By Little" (#25 in 1995), "Don't Quit Me Now" (#25 in 1989) Aaron Lines- "You Can't Hide Beautiful" (#4 in 2002), "Waitin' On The Wonderful" (#36 in 2005), "Love Changes Everything" (#39 in 2003) Heartland- "I Loved Her First" (#1 in 2006) The Tractors- "Baby Likes To Rock It" (#11 in 1994) Sons Of The Desert- "Whatever Comes First" (#10 in 1997), "What I Did Right" (#22 in 2001), "Leaving October" (#31 in 1998), Hand Of Fate (#33 in 1997) John & Audrey Wiggins- Has Anybody Seen Amy" (#22 in 1994) Clay Davidson- "Unconditional" (#3 in 2000), "Sometimes (#21 in 2001), "I Can't Lie To Me (#26 in 2000) Dusty Drake- "One Last Time (#26 in 2003), "Say Yes" (#36 in 2007) Ricky Lynn Gregg- "If I Had A Cheatin' Heart (#36 in 1993) The Lost Trailers- "Holler Back" (#9 in 2008), "How 'Bout You Don't" (#17 in 2008), "Country Folks (Livin' Loud)" (#36 in 2009), "Underdog" (#37 in 2011)

James Bonamy- "I Don't Think I Will (#2), "She's Got A Mind Of Her Own (#26), "All I Do Is Love Her" (#27), "The Swing" (#31) Perfect Stranger- "You Have The Right To Remain Silent" (#4) (Their only top 40 hit) James House- "This Is Me Missing You" (#6 in 1995), "Little By Little" (#25 in 1995), "Don't Quit Me Now" (#25 in 1989) Aaron Lines- "You Can't Hide Beautiful" (#4 in 2002), "Waitin' On The Wonderful" (#36 in 2005), "Love Changes Everything" (#39 in 2003) Heartland- "I Loved Her First" (#1 in 2006) The Tractors- "Baby Likes To Rock It" (#11 in 1994) Sons Of The Desert- "Whatever Comes First" (#10 in 1997), "What I Did Right" (#22 in 2001), "Leaving October" (#31 in 1998), Hand Of Fate (#33 in 1997) John & Audrey Wiggins- Has Anybody Seen Amy" (#22 in 1994) Clay Davidson- "Unconditional" (#3 in 2000), "Sometimes (#21 in 2001), "I Can't Lie To Me (#26 in 2000) Dusty Drake- "One Last Time (#26 in 2003), "Say Yes" (#36 in 2007) Ricky Lynn Gregg- "If I Had A Cheatin' Heart (#36 in 1993) The Lost Trailers- "Holler Back" (#9 in 2008), "How 'Bout You Don't" (#17 in 2008), "Country Folks (Livin' Loud)" (#36 in 2009), "Underdog" (#37 in 2011)Carolina Rain's album is so not a guilty pleasure, lol. It's just a flat out fantastic record. "The Man I've Been Looking For", "How It Should Be", "Carolina Rain", "Sweet Virgina Kiss", "Someone's Child" and "All Before The Sun Goes Down" are great songs, as were the four singles. Too bad "Louisiana Love" and "Let's Get It On" couldn't be included on the album. I remember most everyone on your list. I'm not as old as you, so I can't speak for some of the 90's artists but I do remember Boy Howdy and Jeffrey Steele's solo career ("Somethin' In The Water", "Good To Go"). I love Hot Apple Pie. It's too bad they couldn't stick together after DreamWorks folded and Matejka left for Lynyrd Skynyrd. I also loved "Minivan" by Hometown News. "Meanwhile Back The Ranch" got to #14 on R&R. "Waitin' On The Wonderful" got to #33 on R&R. "Sometimes" reached #18 on R&R. "Say Yes" by Dusty Drake reached #33 on Mediabase. Also, my favorite Lost Trailers songs were "Call Me Crazy" (#41 on R&R) and "Why Me" (#45 on Mediabase). Both from 2906.

I remember all these artists. Lol. I'm an 80's child so all these were in my younger years. Also, my favorite Lost Trailers songs were "Call Me Crazy" (#41 on R&R) and "Why Me" (#45 on Mediabase). Both from 2906. I am currently downloading Hot Apple Pie's album and I do love them. I guess I could've added their lead singer Brady Seals to this list since he had a top 40 single "Another You, Another Me (#32 in 1996). By the way my peak positions I'm posting are the Billboard ones. I'm not sure about the R&R ones. I don't follow that chart like Billboard's. Also Carolina Rain's album is fantastic. I could listen to it every day if I had a chance too. I could name a lot of more current people but a lot of them have been named already. Here are some more I thought of that are more current Tammy Cochran- "Angels In Waiting" (#9 in 2001), "I Cry" in 2001) and "Life Happened" (#20 in 2002) Blue County- "Good Little Girls" (#11 in 2000), "That's Cool" (#24 in 2001), "Nothin' But Cowboy Boots" (#38 in 2001). The Warren Brothers- "Move On" (#17 in 2000), "That's The Beat Of A Heart" (#22 in 2000) Billy Gilman- "One Voice" (#20 in 2000), "Oklahoma" (#33 in 2000) Adam Gregory- "Crazy Days" (#33 in 2008), "What It Takes" (#38 in 2008) Greg Bates- "Did It For The Girl" (#5 in 2012) Trent Tomlinson- "One Wing In The Fire" (#11 in 2006, "Drunker Than Me" (#19 in 2005), "Just Might Have Her Radio On" (#21 in 2007) Trent Willmon- "On Again Tonight" (#27 in 2006) "Beer Man" (#30 in 2004) (He had a couple more moderate hits too)
I could name a lot more but I'm done for now. Lol.

^ The reason I listed some R&R peaks is because I know you don't follow it, lol. I saw where you specified Billboard. :)
"Good Little Girls" peaked at #9 on R&R.
"Drunker Than Me" peaked at #14 in March of 2006 on R&R.

I loved her version of "Ain't What It Used To Be" (#29 on R&R in the summer of 2006). I don't know why that one was never put on iTunes and it's harder than hell to find anywhere. "Long Past Gone" was very good, too.
