Why this guy isn't bigger than he already is still baffles me. I think Brett is incredible, plain and simple. I really like this song as well and think it's a great single choice. Hoping it gives him some more airplay and helps get his name out there. Don't get me wrong, he's doing really well for himself as an artist, but he deserves to be talked about as much as some of the bigger acts (ie Blake, Luke, Jason, Kenny, etc.)

Jason got big with "She's Country" and Luke with "Country Girl". When he gets a song of those proportions he will become a much bigger star.

I definitely see Brett as a future A lister.
As for the song, seems to be off to a pretty good start, both digitally (partly due to the TV appearance) and at radio.

Brett seems like someone CMT and the TV networks have loved, he's got a good personality, and the distinctive voice to be instantly recognizable on radio. I see him being one of the future "main-event players" for Country music, when acts like Aldean, Bryan, etc start to phase out of mega stardom.

I heard this on the radio for the first time today and it sounded great. This is probably my favorite Brett single so far. It's been stuck in my head all day.

This song was recorded quite a long time ago, wasn't it? I remember hearing it as far back as last year. Anyway, it's a pretty nice song. Very pleasant. It's been a slow but steady climber for him. I'll be seeing him live this December on Little Big Town's Painkiller tour.

Pretty much all the songs on his debut were on his "Couch Sessions" on YouTube and his EP came out a while before the album.

"Mean To Me" is just the 3rd single (4th if you count "Raymond"). And this actually hasn't been out that long. It was released to radio only 2 months ago (early July) and it's only been on the chart for 9 weeks, so it's actually had a relatively quick climb, considering that Brett is still a newcomer. This has gained 2.8 million in the last 2 weeks alone; it's been one of the fastest-movers outside the top 30.

I've listened to some of his stuff on YouTube, so when I said I remember hearing it last year I knew it was an album track of some sort. Any predictions on how this will continue to climb? Overall, I haven't been able to get into his music, but I hope it does well for him because he is talented.

Overall, I haven't been able to get into his music, but I hope it does well for him because he is talented. It's actually off to a much better start than I thought it would have, simply because of how crowded the charts are right now. But it looks like radio really likes Brett and Warner Music Nashville is definitely pushing him hard. He's still got a good bit of hype despite being more than a year into his album. I think this can make it at least into the 15-20 range on the chart, maybe higher, but that will depend on how long the label wants to stick with it. If it sells well enough and tests well enough with listeners, they might stick with it for 30-40 weeks. Brett has jumped ahead of Jake Owen (at least temporarily), and he's right in there with Randy Houser as well. A few songs should go recurrent on Monday's chart which would move Brett up into the 31-33 range (on Billboard).

I am alone with how much this song has grown on me? I still wanted "Signs" released, don't get me wrong, but this song really is such a welcome listen on the radio. I heard it for the first time on WYRK which I seldom listen to, on the way to my contemporary cinema class Wednesday. Once again, I'm reminded on how great a songwriter Scooter Carusoe is.
It's also been going up a tad faster than I originally anticipated. Up to 34 on the rolling chart with a 95 bullet and I expect a few songs to be heading down very shortly inside the MB top 30. Still uncertain on how this will perform in October and November plus it's very early considering his last two singles took and eternity to peak, so it's still a wait and see approach for "Mean To Me's" eventual peak.

What I like most about this song, is just the simplicity of it. Not a necessarily deep lyric, an uncluttered production, a straightforward vocal, not over sung, simple melody. It's just very warm like that.

Brett's doing quite well with this one, and it looks to me as if he'll finish this week inside the Billboard top 20.
FGL, Brantley, and Chase will all go recurrent, and Brett might be able to sneak back ahead of RaeLynn. If he can do that (and manage to hold off "Sun Daze"), then "Mean To Me" should check in at #19 on Monday's BB chart.
MTM also continues to sell fairly well. It's ahead of the likes of Thomas Rhett, Dan + Shay, and Randy Houser (who are just a little bit behind on Country Airplay) on iTunes, and it's also easily ahead of David Nail, Chase Bryant, Scotty McCreery, Parmalee, Big & Rich, and Brantley/Thomas/Justin.

I really love Brett's voice. I have liked some of the songs on this first album (One Mississippi is my fave), but I am REALLY looking forward to his next era. However,he can get/write a lot better material. Is this single #3 from him? Gotta wonder if they will go 4 deep.

This is Brett's 5th single overall at country radio ("Raymond", "It Ain't Gotta Be Love", "Don't Ya", "Beat Of The Music", "Mean To Me").

This one's rising up the sales charts pretty quickly. It's currently in the Top 30 sales chart (as is Scotty with Parmalee and B+R just outside).

Lol at this still rising on country radio but the last post being from October on here...
Anyways, I like his voice, and I enjoyed "Don't Ya" and "Beat of the Music" (once again, blame my country drought for these two not charting...) but this one is underwhelming for me.

Also, this one thing bugs me in the chorus, I can hear the auto-tune used on the runs... or at least it sounds edited, and that kind of bugs me. And sorry for commenting on so many things saying vague comments, I didn't realize it until matty pointed it out to me just how many I had commented on.

This song has quietly moved up rather easily, and looks like Brett will have another shot at #1 with this. I know this song received a lukewarm reception on Pulse at first (mostly due to other songs appearing as better single choices), but it looks like Brett has a lot of momentum right now. I see this peaking at or near the top spot sometime in March.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the title is "Mean to Me" and not "What You Mean to Me"? Leaving out the "what you" part makes it sound like he's singing about someone being unpleasant to him.
That's my only complaint about this song, and I'm glad to see Brett finally scoring hits. Now if only he'd re-release "Raymond"…

Just too high a peak to justify a re-release, which are rare anyway.

I totally thought this song was going to be about basically the opposite topic that it's actually about when I first saw the title before hearing the song. It bothers me as well that the title doesn't fit the song. 1. I think that's what the writers (Brett and Scooter) were going for with the misleading title. I'm curious as to what exactly you mean by this? Because to me that makes no sense for the songwriters to do. I see nothing to gain from that.

I never said that they wanted something to gain from that. I mean just think about it. I'm sure it crossed Brett and Scooters minds to title what Bobby said the title should be ("What You Mean To Me"), but thought that a title that has a misleading way about it was interesting. There's nothing to gain there - just attempting to be different. Come to think of it, "Mean To Me" is a more simple title and better title if you ask me. It obviously made sense to the songwriters to name it that since they actually did and the label saw no problems releasing it. Judging how well it has done so far, the confusing title has had little to no impact.
