Listened again, and it sounds better. But the lyrics are so cringeworthy, I do hope this is a hit for him.

The urban fans are probably going to throw a rock at me but I don't care, if he really felt 'forced' to either be r&b or pop, he should have just gone pop. This is not what anyone needs, like ever. I'm trying to reason that it's just the lyrics that make it bad but I kind of feel like many of us would be ambivalent to the production as well. It's too minimalist and sounds like a demo. I feel your overall sentiment completely but let's not act like his pop lyrics were anything but equally (if not worse) trite garbage. The lyrics to Scream still haunt me ( Girl tonight you're the prey, I'm the hunter, Take you here, take you there, take you under). I don't mind this at all. (Heh) It's cute in the same way that Trey's "Na Na" is a nice party song. The problem isn't the song (if Trey or any other random R&B singer released this, I'd probably think it was fine as a radio track) but just the fact that Usher is releasing such watered down radio bait when he released Go Missing and Climax only a few years back.

I liked Scream; it was basic but nothing stuck out as abhorrently bad. It's not like Usher has ever been renowned for his lyricism but something about THIS song - I don't know, maybe it's the lack of production bells and whistles that make every bad word stand out that much more, or maybe it's his delivery, but that opening line and the later "I'm proud to call you my bitch" make me cringe so much. My friend said "someone's going to make the perfect remix, so I'll wait." She's probably right, but is that what this era is going to be for me? Waiting for someone else's remix to fix things?

Looking back at my previous post, maybe I was a bit harsh. I just hate it when a veteran artist like Usher is putting out music that could have been recorded by any nobody getting an Urban hit.
If this were some random R&B singer singing a generic ratchet joint like this, I'd be cool with it, because you're not gonna expect much when you first hear it, and will most likely be used as club music filler, which is not something you'd expect from someone like Usher.
With that said, I really don't have a thing, against tracks like this, but when somethings tuneless and derivative as this by Usher, it's inexcusable. Edit: Song has been removed from link. Still can't remember how it goes.

Anyways I need to learn not to comment after 1st listen or initial frustration. I changed my mind this isn't garbage, its trite and inadequate.
EDIT- LMFAO I didn't see above, if I had I wouldn't look like a bandwagoner. I hate that. Post stands.

I honestly have a hard time believing that it’s actually a new Usher single. It must be some kind of a joke, right? It better be. This lyrics are just cringeworthy. I just hoped that GK was just a shaky start of an era. But this song just proved me wrong.
I like the melody, tho.

This song is perfectly listenable, the production, melody, he sounds SO GOOD IMO. The chorus is catchy.
But outside of strippers with a significant other... who the hell is this song for? Who's the audience? It's soooo bizarre. I don't think the lyrics are bad necessarily, especially given the subject matter. The subject matter is just RANDOM.

I guess with all of the disapproval on here, this will be hit. Go Usher!
I love that Usher is encouraging strippers, just because you dance on a pole that doesn't make you a hoe. Word. This song has too many quotable lines. They did a number on this one.
Maybe my expectations of artists have lowered (or I don't take most of them seriously due to the industry now), but I am enjoying this. First, "Good Kisser" and now this, these songs got me hyped for the album.

This is shit. Not even "this is terrible for an artist like Usher"-shit; this is just flat-out shit. It doesn't matter if he's making it for a pop hit or making it because he truly feels/felt as though it will be a great addition to his catalog; this song is fucking atrocious. There isn't a single redeeming quality, and lmao @ allow that's Casio keyboard line -- it's too true. Fucking mess.

The production is simple, but it doesn't sound cheap to me at all. It's light, it's airy, it's summery and it goes perfectly with the song.

I mean I did expect a beat drop at some point. It has this 90s feel to it where you get big booty chicks shaking it at a cookout. Hell, I catch myself doing a number or two once it comes on. It gives me "Space Jams" feel. Ugh!

That cheap Casio keyboard isn't doing anyone any favors. Production sounds shoddy and outdated. Exactly. I could forgive the laughable lyrics, if the production was fresh and exciting. The production on this song sounds cheap, insipid, outdated as you said.

Despite the fact these singles are telling me where the album may be headed and my head is saying don't buy, I still will hold out hope that, Usher left all the good songs on the album. Sometimes when the landscape of where you're trying to get played on is totally crass and tepid a boy just tryna fit in.

I don't think I've ever liked anything with that "True" sample. This samples Spandau Ballet? I actually didn't notice that (and I'm too blahhh about the song to go back and recheck now).

I love 'True'. I'm sad y'all don't use. I'll probably be disappointed then I love "True" too! Unlike Jazz I think I like all the songs that have sampled it, at least the ones that I know of. I didn't pick up on the sample here so maybe I can compel myself to give it another listen. I still haven't been able to bring myself to give this a full second listen - I barely made it through the entire song the first time - but it occurred to me that the reaction I had to this is the exact same one I had when "Papers" came out. To this day I think "Papers" is one of the most laughable songs he has ever done in his career. Bad lyrics and unmelodic - but "Papers" was a hit, and I eventually came around to it enough to learn the lyrics so I could laughingly sing along whenever it comes on. I just can't take that song seriously. I suppose IDM is along those lines? I will never be able to take this song seriously but it's the kind of 'bad' where I wouldn't be surprised if other people jumped on board with it, and I eventually just throw my hands up and laugh along. But outside of strippers with a significant other... who the hell is this song for? Who's the audience? It's soooo bizarre. I don't think the lyrics are bad necessarily, especially given the subject matter. The subject matter is just RANDOM. lmao I thought that too at first, that the subject matter was so strange (esp. b/c I'm pretty sure Usher is still dating Grace Miguel, and has been pretty much since his divorce, so I don't know who this stripper bae of his could be, and personally if i was a stripper who managed to twerk my way into being sponsored by Usher I would NOT be dancing for money anymore unless and until we broke up...but that's none of my business). But then T-Pain sang about being in love with a stripper, and I had a former friend who was obsessed with some Nickelback song where Chad Kroeger sang about watching his gf at work and threatening to beat another patron up if the other guy touched his gf's ass one more time. So I guess it's not that random a topic.
