This is them in London last night at the ITunes Festival. If you got an hour and love the band, this is worth watching! They are becoming a phenomenal live act!

Out of all the boy bands that popped up recently, they're better than One Direction but worse than The Wanted.

The Wanted couldn't even put together a single catchy song. One Direction has released some bona fide pop magic (What Makes You Beautiful, Story of My Life) and has loads of charisma. 5 Seconds of Summer is decent but feels a little closer to some of the lamer 2000s pop-rock acts (like Boys Like Girls) than a true boy band.

5SOS are 3 guys with guitars and 1 with drums. Sound familiar? That was basically the formula for most of the great bands of the 60s, including the Beatles. Were the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Monkeys, 3 Dog Night, etc boy bands? I don't think so. 5SOS are no different in the way their band is made up and songs that are on the line of Pop and Rock.

Musical performers shouldn't be labeled based on any stereotype.

Musical performers shouldn't be labeled based on any stereotype. They sang cheesy love songs and had a primarily female fanbase for the first half of their career. If The Beatles came out today, they'd definitely be labeled a boyband.

It wasn't until Rubber Soul when they started making decent mussic.

I don't believe in counting any musician/vocalist/artist out based on a stereotype of how they began. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Every band, whether it be boy band, a regular band, on one that treads the boundaries like 5SOS, does grow and mature over time and so does their music. Did you ever think that One Direction would ever make something similar to "Story Of My Life" when they first broke out internationally? Besides, they're not the only band that treads those fine lines. Rixton, The Vamps, and Lawson each have certain songs that could fit into the "teen pop" category, but that doesn't necessarily mold them into the "boy band" stereotype.

While "What Makes You Beautiful" is upbeat and formulaic as a teen pop song, "Story Of My Life" is more mellow and acoustic. Now which one performed better as a multi-format?

WMYB is like "MMMBop" or "We Got it Going On" or "ABC 123" or "She Loves You" etc. Very sugary sweet. SOML is a versatile song that could be classified as Folk/Pop, could be re-instrumented to be Country (a fiddle with a 2 step beat would sound awesome on it), or could have been recorded with harder guitars and sounded more rock. That is what I call progression. 1D I have a feeling is going to shock a lot of people with the new album cause I think it'll be a complete 180 of the sounds of the first 3 albums, which each one is a bit more progressive than the one before.

"Little Things" barely scratched the top 20. So the casual fans and radio execs understood the distinction of the 2. That's all that matters.

If you don't like 1D's music or 5SOS's, that's fine. I just don't believe anyone should count artists out cause you never know what's coming in the future. There of plenty of artists I despised at the beginning but now I'm a big fan of their later stuff, Eric Church is a personal example of that for me. Anyway music is subjective and unique to each individual's tastes. That's what makes it great. I just don't believe stereotypes belong in any form of art, and music is definitely an art.

Climbs from #45 to #38 in the UK, becoming their fourth Top 40 there. However, it should have a major boost next week since it's officially released this week.

The album is doing really well even without a big hit single. I don't think it can compete with In the lonely hour for the debut album of the year but it will end in the top 5 for sure

Just wait til "Good Girls" is released to radio. I think that will get them into the top 15 at least, if not top 10! The video is supposed to be their best yet! As soon as "Amnesia" crashes from the chart, it should be released pretty quick.
