And if "Ballast" and "Figure It Out" come. "Figure It Out" did debut on the Alt chart. I mean Billboard Top 40 Alt. "My Demons" should cross over, but it pains me to see crap like Broods and Echomsith make it Top 40 when songs like "Red Eyes" and "Get Hurt" are the direction Alt should be moving in.

Alt will be a better place if 'Revolution' and 'Messed Up World' stay away. And if "Ballast" and "Figure It Out" come. There's absolutely nothing 'alternative' about the Nothing More song. But although I dislike "Figure It Out", it SHOULD fit on alternative, since it screams 'alternative rock' and it's the kind of song that reduces the whining from the minority of listeners who want their alternative stations to be active-leaning again...and a few of those songs wouldn't hurt.

It's artsy and different enough that I'd consider it more "alternative" than anything. Just because it's heavy doesn't mean it's not Alternative.

I disagree. The melody of "Ballast" if you listen closely, is quite different from traditional post grunge. Also, his singing is reminiscent of Fair to Midland, which I think makes the song different enough to be able to fit on Alternative (even if FTM never charted there), despite being a hard rock song.

Well it's only my opinion, but "This Is The Time" starts out sounding like an insult to Deftones. Sounds like a very watered down, crappy version of a Deftones song, then they pick it up by going all Drowning Pool out of nowhere, then during the chorus the vocalist sounds like of of those emo screamo vocalists from 5-10 years ago who would take a break from puking and burping in order to actually sing the chorus. So whether its alternative or not (I don't think it is, when it's all said and done I think it's just another below average hard rock/metal song), I just don't think it'd fit in on alt. Go with Chevelle, TDG, or even Starset instead.
Diverting away from my opinion now, this is a song that 5-10 years ago wouldn't get anywhere near the top half on alternative anyways.

It sounds nothing like Drowning Pool at all, the vocalist doesn't sound screamo in fact he has a great voice and that chorus is an example of it.

Well...this is much harsher than anything I could have said. I just find it overproduced and I don't care for his voice. And yes, it does sound very dated.

I like the Nothing More song but I can agree with the general sentiment of this post - the excessive amount of complaints about how alternative should get back to playing mid-2000s proportions of active-leaning/heavier music (despite the audience ratings saying otherwise) is rather peeving but there's nothing wrong with quality heavier music that's rooted enough in alternative entering the charts, say "Out of the Black"

I find that transition from the (attempted) Deftones-like intro to when it picks up and the guitars get heavy to be very Drowning Pool-esque, that's the very first thing I thought of when I first heard it.

Just because the song has down tuned guitars and soft-loud dynamics doesn't make it an insult to Deftones as much as more of a tribute to them. Besides, he sings differently than Chino would. I like the song and it was deserving to hit #1
As for Alt, that's a bit of a stretch. I do understand the Fair To Midland comparison, though they got completely robbed of chart success(Musical Chairs was the greatest song of 2011), I think just experimental sounds and high pitched vocal delivery doesn't equal alt success.
Besides if Nothing a More and Royal Blood got as much airplay on Alt as they do on Active I would have very little reason to continue to listen to Active.

On the topic of Broods, this is actually growing on me, which is surprising because I thought "Bridges" was terrible.

I'm gonna take a guess and say it was all "Bridges" bashing.

I'm gonna take a guess and say it was all "Bridges" bashing. It was mostly back-and-forth exchange between bashing and praising Broods and Phantogram, yes Last post of the first page pretty much sums up the direction the rest of this thread has gone
