I'm assuming they released this when his last single started to drop. His label probably thought this would take off better. Why was it to early to release this? We over analyze the single releases when it under performs. Reality is while this isn't a bad single choice it's just not strong enough to build an substantial amount of buzz for his upcoming album.

Y does everyone try and feature nicki then drake for a hit?
That's so 2011. This song is kinda boring :/ expectedore for these two. Lil freak was my ish ... This kinda flat and sounds more like a rushed pharrell track then an usher song

I've never been to Cruze, how is it? [Most of my friends are introverted not-straight girls who don't like to go out dancing :( ] Cruze is very fun!! Good music. It's biggest night is College Night on Thursdays. I'm intimidated to go by myself, but I'd like to come see it. I went last summer to see some lesbian comedians and had a great time.

I think he should move on from this, release a new single within the next few weeks, and push the album back to November.

^no he should promote this and release the album soon. can't think of any album that truly benefitted from push backs after multiple singles had already gone nowhere. it's just ridiculous

This song is just not connecting with people, for whatever reason.

This song is just not connecting with people, for whatever reason. Good Kisser was a hit. Not a massive hit but certainly a hit. Usher needs to start promoting in a different way to connect with his prior fan base and also connect with the newer fanbase as well. Him flip flopping genres on his prior eras caused backlash.

I perfectly think he needs a good R&B mid tempo love song right now. The audience isn't connecting with him and I do think his subject matter maybe causing that disconnect. He needs to release a relatable track, imo.

Why is he no longer opening at the VMAs? What he's not? I guess MTV wanted to open with a hit and figured he'd have one by now/

Between this and Pharrell's single, I don't think the general public is here for songs that remind them of "Blurred Lines". Amazing how that was one of the biggest hits of all time last year and already seems so hated by the public, single handedly destroyed Robin Thicke's reputation, and is dooming anything that sounds similar to it.

I hear what you're saying and agree to an extent, but the female version of "Blurred Lines" is basically blowing up right now and in the case of this song it actually reminds me more of Michael Jackson than Robin Thicke. It's just poorly promoted, poorly timed, and doesn't have an easily recognizable chorus. As for Robin's reputation, his antics with Paula and that unsightly VMA performance with Miley did more to destroy him than the song itself did.

I think the subject matter of the song served to exacerbate the negative reactions to his public antics and create an even more negative opinion of Robin in general. He made several very public poor decisions related to his relationship with Paula, and I think being known for a song that was perceived as being "rapey" and misogynistic only made people perceive him as even more of a dog and increased the negative reaction to the "Blurred Lines" lyrics. I think it's all closely intertwined.

Does it really matter if he opens or not? Hell maybe he'll debut a new song.
No better place to do that than at the VMAs.

It seems to be a continuation of the Lil Freak concept.

I hear Believe Me in the background in the intro ... Obviously the ending makes me believe that it's the conclusion of the video.
I think Believe Me is a much superior song.

This won't be a hit. Time to abort this song and move on to "Believe Me" and reducing this to a bonus track.
His performance on the VMAs killed whatever possible buzz he had.

Video is nice, Nicki looks great, song is really average. What's with the 50+ second wasted intro? I just don't get it - especially on a song that is struggling to gain traction. After 10 seconds, I was either going to FF or ditch watching. I chose to FF - the video itself works well enough.

Eh, you can't kill what was already dead I'm so sad. I still really like this song. (I got to see his VMA performance on a flight of all places. Yay Direct TV!) It was a good performance? I thought he commanded the stage quite well and reminded us of what a smooth singer and dancer he is. That said, I agree with Cynthia. Wasted promo opportunity to perform a song that was already falling down the charts (or would have been had it MADE the Hot 100 in the first place). At this point I don't really know what to say about this doomed era that's impending.

Yeah it seems like this song isn't going to take off, after his VMA performance the song didn't even reach the Top 100 on iTunes! It's really unfortunate because this song has so much potential, they released the song way too early and didn't promote it until the VMA performance. This era has really been handled poorly so far, I hope they get it together soon and give the album an release date.
