ACTIVE has an identity crisis? Are we ignoring the identity crisis that Alt has been dealing with for the last 2 years? lol alternative doesn't have an identity crisis though, in fact, it has a pretty clear and distinctive identity. You're just calling it a crisis because you dislike the identity.
Active on the other hand is playing a bunch of stuff that makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever, like this song (or Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High, or My Sweet Summer, or Sweater Weather, or both Atlas Genius singles...you get that point). It's audience numbers are WAY down from where they were 5 years ago too. It's also allowing literally everything to get to #1 and none of the stations are in sync whatsoever, playing everything at different times as other stations, so you have Starset situations, and worse, situations like Fuel's "Cold Summer" flopping because despite having had a fair amount of stations play it over time, they all added it and removed it at different times (that's only one example). I'm not sh1itting on the format, I'm just telling it like it is, it's in the middle of a crisis. It's just too all over the place and it's a complete mess for one reason or another at any given time. welp Yeah, there are problems on Active, but they know their strengths and they play it well. See how hard that Godsmack song is tumbling? They know it's not good, and thus it was evicted from the top after 1 week (Mediabase) or 3 (Billboard) and is now freefalling. My Demons is a good song that should keep on gaining. Meanwhile, Alternative has their strengths and completely fucks it up. That's why we have Gaslight Anthem and Red Eyes unbulleted in the Bottom of the Top 50 and crap like Stolen Chance and Vance Joy at #1s and #2s.

Do you have to turn EVERYTHING into a "let's bash alternative" thread? I'm not even trashing active, which is obviously your favourite format, I'm just suggesting that it needs to sort itself out. I don't want Fall Out Boy charting on active anymore than you do, but the fact that it is is what explains the crisis. Active used to be really consistent, hell in 2007-08 I think there were even a few times where I liked more of what was on the active chart than the alternative one, now it just doesn't really make sense. I think you're just assuming that since I don't agree with the anti-indie position, that I'm just crapping on active everytime I talk about it, when clearly that isn't the case.

One's opinion of the quality of songs being played doesn't have anything to do with the identity, it's the type of songs being played. Alternative is consistent. Clearly not everyone likes it, but at least you know what to expect from it. Active is different. Who the hell expected Fall Out Boy to surge into the chart like it's doing? Who expected BOTH Atlas Genius singles to make it? Who expected it to develop an alarming country chart-like turnover at #1?

Dude, you said exactly this: "ACTIVE has an identity crisis? Are we ignoring the identity crisis that Alt has been dealing with for the last 2 years?" If you know what identity crisis means, you never would've said that. The only reason to say that is to be a sh1t disturber for no reason and to attack the state of alternative...for the umpteenth time. One's opinion of the quality of songs being played doesn't have anything to do with the identity, it's the type of songs being played. Alternative is consistent. Atlas Genius never charted on Actuve Both of their singles hit the top 50, which is relevant since we're complaining about Fall Out Boy hitting the top 50 on active.

ok sorry i will leave board Dude, you just need to tone it down. We get the point, you hate the state of alternative, and that's perfectly fine since you're entitled to your own opinion. But polluting every thread with the same complaints isn't going to help anything, and you don't seem to have convinced anyone to join the crusade anyways.

On a side note: any song that charted on Active from Jan-Sep 2013 is extremely nostalgic to me.

Top 50 on Active: 0 45 FALL OUT BOY Centuries 138 0 138 0.495 LOL OK. Sugar, We're Goin' Down and MSKWYDITD were both active top 40s, FWIW Yeah, but those were more rock-tinged than this. Active shouldn't be remotely near anything that samples "Tom's Diner".

That's actually one of the reasons I like the Active format rather than Alternative right now. Call it an identity crisis or whatever, but I like hearing songs that are on opposite sides of the spectrum from each other. I'm not opposed to hearing Fall Out Boy and Starset on the same radio station. Alternative right now generally tries to stick to one sound/scene, which I don't appreciate too much.

What's up with all of the crosses? lol IS THIS A COLLABORATION WITH CHINO MORENO Holy shit I would lose so much respect for Chino if he collaborated with this band. A few times a year I hit a misstep in avoiding pop, country, or rap radio and hear something truly awful. But to remedy that I listen to rock radio. But every couple of years I hear a song that is so truly awful even though it's on rock radio that I turn the radio off and just sit in silence. This is that song.

You just went on a rant about Alt and Active having identity crisises and you have stated numerous times that Active is better than Alt and how Active songs should do better on Alt. And now you're saying you don't care about Active? That's hypocritical.

No And i just have this natural bias against Active, so it'll be hard for me to accept it as anything good because I'm so used to Active being shit that i just dont know. So yeah, thats why I dont care about Active, even if it may be better at the time. I just cant accept the fact that for once, Alt is the worst of the 2 rock formats.

It's also allowing literally everything to get to #1 Has the turnover at #1 on Active this year really been THAT bad? Aside for a quick stop at the top for the initial singles from Linkin Park and Godsmack's latest...the past months saw 3 to 4 week runs at #1 (on Mediabase) for "This Is the Time (Ballast)", "Words as Weapons", "Torn To Pieces" and "Heaven Knows" (off the top of my head). I think "Painkiller" spent 3 weeks at #1 on Mediabase too. That seems pretty par for the course to me...though it certainly has been a while since a song has dominated the chart in the way that say "Face To The Floor" did. Curious discussion. Some interesting generalizations made (not all that I agree with). Anyhoo, this is a really good song (though I wouldn't program it at Active with a gun to my head).
