Artists Of Then, Now & Forever - Forever Country is certified gold. Not bad for a single that topped the Hot Country Songs chart, peaked at #33 airplay, and #21 on the Hot 100. Oh yeah, it won Video of the Year at the A.C.M..

FGL are now the top certified Country artist for singles, with 31.5 million, passing Carrie Underwood at 30.5 million.
This is a bummer. Cruise (10X/Diamond) really gave them a huge head start.

Is it safe to say that when an album goes Gold it has made its money back?

yes, it was clearly counted double, it clearly doesn't meet the posted standards......it is interesting. (not an attack on Miranda)

I'm glad they counted TWOTW as a double album, rightfully so. It would've been a shame if they hadn't because it only comes up like 5 or so minutes short of the supposed "requirement" for length, but it's a 2-disc record with 24 total songs on it, so it was definitely deserved/appropriate here, imo.

I agree with you that this is a double album. I do sort of have a problem though with rules being selectively enforced. If you don't care about a minimum time, then don't include it as a requirement. I will say I sort of have a problem with the whole "double album" counts as two though. If you can't buy the discs separately it should just count as one album unit. When you allow this type of counting you get the ridiculousness that was Garth's last album going platinum bc it was in a 10 disc set, so they only needed to sell 100k copies.

What is the point of having criteria and standard if they don't matter or they're not applied? Sorry, if it didn't meet the requirements, then it's not "rightful" that it was counted as as double album.

But that's why they count as more than one unit, because if you could buy them separately it would be totally unnecessary to have that. Maybe it seems ridiculous, but if you buy a double-disc album you're paying for the two CDs (TWOTW costs more than Platinum did), and album sales are low enough as it is for regular records that only cost like $10. The Garth Brooks example is an extreme case... but it isn't inaccurate if people are shelling out the money to purchase 10 discs worth of music, and I don't think that it should count the same as buying a single-disc album. It's not as if it's gaming the system.

It's not as if it's gaming the system. I look at it as "gaming the system" because even if I only wanted to purchase "the nerve" I had to buy both & count as two, even though I only wanted one. In the Garth case, I didn't want 10 copies of the new album, I really wanted the other 9 (etc), but my purchase still counted as 10 copies of the new album. (I don't really want to get into pricing, because so many games are played with pricing by everyone...but yes it cost more...but not twice as much). Anyways totally reasonable to have different viewpoints, philosophically I'm just not a fan of counting something as a multiple when I only made one purchase.

Sorry but it is not the case. He actually split the 10 discs so that each disc is platinum. (1 million of the boxset is sold to Target.)

Anyways totally reasonable to have different viewpoints, philosophically I'm just not a fan of counting something as a multiple when I only made one purchase. I mean I get your frustration with the idea of only buying something for 1 disc of the 2 or 10 or however many, but the fact that you have to buy them all together means that whether you wanted all the CDs, you still technically bought them all (which means they should count as such). If you got home from the store and took one of the Miranda discs out of the case it came in and promptly set it on fire because you didn't want it is your prerogative, but for all intents and purposes, you bought both CDs. It sounds like your issue is really just with packaging discs together and eliminating the freedom of choice rather than counting them as multiple CDs for sales/certifications/etc. I think this would make sense in Garth's case, but Miranda's album was meant conceptually to be a double-disc effort so I don't think having the option to split the two into individual purchase would've been appropriate, and while I don't give two shits what Garth Brooks does because I'm not even remotely a fan of his, I can understand being frustrated with his box-set marketing tactic for someone who didn't want all 10 CDs.

New single certifications: MAREN MORRIS 80S MERCEDES July 13, 2017 COLUMBIA NASHVILLE SINGLE GOLDThis is a weird one, as Sony announced the certification back in February. I know labels sometimes slightly jump the gun in reporting certifications, but they're rarely FIVE MONTHS early. Did the RIAA reject their initial claim or something?

Not sure if this is the thread to ask but does anyone have a list of the best-selling debut albums by country artists? Thanks in advance!
