It appears that Caleb Johnson's first single off his debut album (which gets released 8/12) is finally out! \ Although he calls himself the first "true rocker" to win Idol, this single is very much in the HAC lane of some other previous Idol winners. No word yet on when it will be sent to radio. Thoughts? @calebjohnson #check out my first single that I co wrote on called Only One! Super proud of it and I hope you enjoy it ! :) youtu.be/N9rjN92ITU8

Unsurprising, unexciting, and likely unsuccessful. At least the chorus of "As Long As You Love Me" was a little catchy.

Still can't stand him. Much like everyone else said, it's boring and possibly even more boring than his coronation single.

This is pretty generic. Hopefully he has some rock stuff like he did on Idol on the album. Or else he'll just fade into the Idol oblivion (which will likely happen anyway).

I think it's already too late for him.

Dreadfully uneventful. Too bad.

This is embarassing. Fuck major label involvement.

I like his voice but he never was rock.

His voice was okay, but every song sounded the same on AI...
This song sucks (not surprising tbh) and so did his coronation, I hope Jena gets some success though (also unlikely)

You can preview the full album now. It's actually not half bad. I mean it's pretty much generic rock, but it sort of works, especially for an Idol contestant that wasn't destined to be a pop star. James Durbin's debut was much better.

I know everybody is entitled to their own opinions and I am highly unlikely to ever buy any of Caleb's music, but why is it the James Durbin fans(which tbh seem to be small in numbers these days) seem to be the most threatened by Caleb? They didn't like it when the Adam Lambert fans were doing it to James. Why bring James into this in the first place? You honestly aren't helping his cause.

I'm not threatened, but Caleb says he's the first true rocker. Stuff like this is not rock. I enjoy both singers, but it's clear which one made the rock impression.

There is an argument to be made that no one on "American Idol" is a "true rocker." Rock and the show don't really mix. I mean, I remember when Bo Bice was doing justice to classic rock songs like Whipping Post, and Dave Grohl still dissed him in an interview.

James Durbin at LEAST went as hard as he could on his first album, but shifted gears entirely for his second (and far superior IMO album, Celebrate). But Bo Bice, Daughtry, Caleb, all could have been positioned straight into Rock, but their singles were strictly AC/Hot AC and Top 40 with Daughtry. Whatever works I guess.

Daughtry released rock singles. Okay, thanks for the reminder. But by the second album, the label abandoned Rock radio right? Nope. The singles just flopped. They were promoted, but they did horribly.
