He's talking about the first 7 days. How will the 8th day effect affect this? It'll need +322 spins tomorrow (for the Friday update). Day 1: 322 (+322) Day 2: 650 (+328) Day 3: 932 (+282) Day 4: 1179 (+247) Day 5: 1446 (+267) Day 6: 1725 (+279) Day 7: ???? (+???)

Top 5 on Alternative: 0 5 FOO FIGHTERS Something From Nothing 2029 0 2029 9.545
...and Active too: 0 4 FOO FIGHTERS Something From Nothing 1325 0 1325 5.183
AAA update: 0 33 FOO FIGHTERS Something From Nothing 117 0 117 0.664
Glad to see that the Foos still have enough pull on Alt to get to the top 5 within a week of the adds date. This song doesn't exactly scream "hit single", but it's definitely impressive and a grower. It will probably go to #1, but I'm not sure if it's going to last as long as others are predicting/hoping.

Well, I was hoping "Take Me To Church" would clock in a week at #1 but... :(

Yeah, this is growing on me. It's great to see the Foo's are still more than relevant right now.

I find it funny how it actually debuted higher on Active. Didn't it debut at #22 on Active and #15 on Alt? It moved up higher on Active, though that was to be expected.

I find it funny how it actually debuted higher on Active. It's because the spin count difference in the Top 5 for both formats. 2000 for Alternative versus 1300 for Active. This song doesn't exactly scream "hit single", but it's definitely impressive and a grower. It will probably go to #1, but I'm not sure if it's going to last as long as others are predicting/hoping. Not for nothing, but you must have really high standards for songs to be defined a "hit single" in your books. I think this is one of the freshest sounding songs released in the last couple of months.

Oh no, I'm not questioning the quality of the song. I'm just saying it's not the type of song you'd expect them to release as a single, considering its slow-building, non-standard structure. (Even "Let It Die", which people have compared it to, had more of a consistent hook throughout the song.) They would have easily gotten away with releasing a less radio-friendly lead single a few years ago, but in a climate that's less favorable towards older and/or harder acts, this was a bit of a risky move.
Again, I'm glad that they're still big enough at the format to get an instant top 5 (and probably #1), but I'm just not sure if this song will have a long run at the top. I'd love to be wrong, of course, and it helps that there's not another really strong #1 contender right now. But I think they might need another "Walk" or "Times Like These" as a follow-up in order to have any longevity in this era.

Oh sh*t, "The Feast and the Famine" is out already and it's #1 on iTunes!!!
ETA: This sounds some like old school Foo. It sounds like something that could have been on The Colour and the Shape or There Is Nothing Left to Lose. Really like it. It's more immediate than this.

It's going to be a hard fight up the Alternative chart, especially when songs like Stolen Milk are so overplayed. WSUN is playing it and Riptide 123 times per week, more than many pop stations play their top songs. Had this been a couple years ago, 2000 spins would have made this song number one on alt by now, but 2700 spins is ridiculous.
Otherwise, this is a very strong song, deserving of that top spot. Unfortunately, quality =/= chart position.

"The Feast and the Famine" impressed me more right away than "Something for Nothing." I was thinking the same thing when just listening to it that it sounded like Foo's stuff from the 90s, which is great that they have a mixture of sound just in the two songs they've debuted. Maybe they will make it a second single? Although, many times I've noticed that they release the debut single as a way to grab the audience's attention and then release something not as energetic like "Times Like These" or "Long Road to Ruin."

It should stabilize by tomorrow.

Hopefully it stays at #2 on Active till Monday lol. I want Nickelback to get their third week, then the Foo Fighters can get it for the rest of year.

The 9th day effect? Seriously? It should stabilize by tomorrow. Its second day was bigger than its first. Days 3 and 4 were smaller though so yeah we should start seeing healthy increases again.

The middle part of the song feels unnecessarily long, which diminishes the potency of that sick guitar riff. With some editing, the buildup would have felt much less labored and made the song more effective. I do like what's here, though - and without getting drawn into the debates on this site, it is nice to hear some driving guitars at Alternative.
"The Feast and the Famine" is solid, but for now I actually think I like "Something" more, and I prefer "Rope" and "Walk" to both. Interested to hear the entire album.

I was also very impressed by "The Feast And The Famine". I like both songs alot more than "Rope", but a bit less than "Walk". Very excited for the album though, Since it only consists of 8 songs I expected 8 superb, single-quality tracks...so far they are 2/2.

'The Feast and The Famine" is one hell of a Foo Fighters song. You can't beat the old school sound. If they release this as a single now ,Won't they "kill off" thier own first single like Slipknot did with "The Negative One"?
