This song was as instantly pleasing as anything The Foo Fighters have done since "Learn To Fly", and I was not expecting that at all. That final minute of the song is so intense, like they were trying to prove that rock isn't quite dead yet, just by themselves. I went from thinking "oh great, another Foo Fighters track we're going to be force fed for a year", to hearing the song, and then to the decision that any number of weeks at number one would be pretty sweet, so long as that number is less than 19.

I heard Evanescence's "Call Me When You're Sober" today, and the tune of the chorus sounds remarkably similar to the "I'm something from nothing..." part of this song. Coincidence, I'm sure, but still distracting.

Not familiar enough with that song to compare. But I have recently noticed a slightly off-key resemblance to Dio.

so, this song has been at #11 for awhile now, when does it go recurrent? I'm not clear on the rules, but was told 3 straight weeks of decreased airplay & being below #10. Riptide vanished into recurrent land that way but Yellow Flicker Beat never did, it's still on the Alt chart. Can someone explain the difference?

Riptide vanished into recurrent land that way but Yellow Flicker Beat never did, it's still on the Alt chart. Can someone explain the difference? I'm pretty sure Mediabase purges for recurrency every Sunday, they don't do it every day, and it hasn't been below #10 for a week yet (dropped to #11 on 2/11), so it might be gone in the next few days. If that's not the case, another reason (which I'm not exactly sure about, so anyone else who knows more about this feel free to correct me), is the song has to last 20 weeks in the top 50 (or 140 days) before it can become a recurrent track. It's why songs like Coming Of Age shot up to the Top 10 but then fell through the Top 50 for a few months without going recurrent despite having a negative bullet for most/all of those weeks. So if the Foos don't go recurrent this week (since they're only at 121 days) it might be a week or two too early. That would also support your Riptide vs. Yellow Flicker Beat comparison, as Vance Joy had well over 20 weeks when falling below the Top 10, while Lorde is still three days away from hitting that milestone (137 days). Either way, sometime very soon they'll be gone.

thx Webbie, I wasn't aware of the 20week rule. I usually check out the charts on FMQB (http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255606) & they don't list days or weeks on the chart. Is there a better place to find that info?

Kworb (one of the members here) has a site that updates with the spins on a bunch of formats daily. I check there every day, I know some check on AllAccess too, since that provides the same information as well as some station-specific information. Here's the link

Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the fastest alternative #1 to go recurrent (it will in two weeks time) since Red Hot Chili Peppers' "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie".

Likely because it shot up to the top so quickly.

Likely because it shot up to the top so quickly. And so did The Black Keys' "Fever" even though that spent more than 20 weeks on alt

Makes sense though...what's the sense in continuing to promote the single for another 10+ weeks? Foo Fighters are well established, don't need to make a name for themselves, and this song isn't getting any sort of realistic Hot AC/Pop push. Every alt listener knows this song well enough and has now heard "Congregation", so putting more money into this isn't going to affect album sales.

Putting more money into Something from Nothing isn't going to affect album sales. Cough cough... Sonic Highways just dropped out of the Billboard 200 even though it's still in the Top 100 of the Top Current Albums Chart F**k the new Billboard 200 rule

It was the Billboard 200 used BEFORE the new rule without the catalog albums.

What's the new Billboard 200 rule? Streams and track downloads are also included. 1,500 streams = 1 album sale 10 track downloads = 1 album sale That's why Mark Ronson is still in the Top 20 with his album

I'm glad the Foo Fighters are able to smash on Alternative after 20 years, "Something from Nothing" is already one of my favorite songs of all time.
