I'm gonna bet on B&D reprising their duet with her. That makes the most sense to me anyway.

Canadian Idol Heads to Nashville for Workshops with Martina McBrideTuesday August 15, 4:41 pm ET -- Superstar Martina McBride takes reigns as Canadian Idol hits Music City for first time --TORONTO, ONTARIO--(MARKET WIRE)--Aug 15, 2006 -- Canadian Idol is going country for the first time in its history - and music superstar Martina McBride is along for the ride. Tomorrow, the remaining five competitors head south to Nashville, Tennessee where they will work with McBride as they immerse themselves in the country music capital of the world. Next week, the country star flies to Toronto to be the featured guest as Canadian Idol returns to its home studio on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (check local listings). When Canadian Idol flies to Nashville tomorrow, it will be the first time an Idol franchise has visited "Music City, USA". There, the Canadian Idol Top 5 will workshop with Sony BMG Music (Canada) Inc. recording artist Martina McBride. McBride will guide the competitors as they prepare for their country music challenge on Monday's performance show. Among the country classics expected to be performed are songs from Gordon Lightfoot, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Nancy Sinatra, Dwight Yoakam and Dolly Parton. Then on Tuesday, McBride will join an impressive list of guest artists to perform on the Canadian Idol stage, performing alongside the Top 5 as well as alone. "I am looking forward to working with the competitors on Canadian Idol," said McBride. "It is always interesting and fun to interact with talented young people who are totally focused on their goals." In addition to studio rehearsals with McBride, no trip to Nashville would be complete without experiencing the music phenomenon that has showcased the biggest and best in country, folk, bluegrass and more - the Grand Ole Opry. The Top 5 competitors will shoot segments and learn the history of the storied country music landmark. "Many of Canada's biggest country music stars have made the trek to Nashville to pursue their dream of making it in the country music capital of the world," said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. "Now they follow in the footsteps of Shania Twain, Carolyn Don Johnson, Terri Clark and so many more before them." Martina McBride joins Nelly Furtado, Cyndi Lauper, Dennis DeYoung, Roger Hodgson and Chantal Kreviazuk as special guests on the fourth season of Canadian Idol. "We've been giving this year's competitors the best to work with and we are continuing to do that with Martina McBride," said Executive Producer John Brunton. "They have a great opportunity to learn from someone who started out in a niche market but has been able to break through into mainstream popularity." McBride has been a steady presence in the Country Top 10 since 1993. Her fiery, passionate vocals have created such memorable hits as "Independence Day," "Wild Angels," "Broken Wing," "Blessed" and "This One's for the Girls." She has placed nearly 20 singles in the Top 10, has sold 15 million records and has been named CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004. McBride is also a three-time Academy of Country Music Female Vocalist of the Year winner and a Grammy Award winner. McBride signed with RCA Records and released her debut album The Time Has Come in 1992. Her first big hit was the single "My Baby Loves Me" from her second album, The Way That I Am. She became even more visible in 1994 with the crossover success of her anti-domestic violence anthem "Independence Day," also from The Way That I Am. In 1995, McBride released the album Wild Angels: "Safe in the Arms of Love" and the title track were country hits, later being her first Number 1 hit on the Billboard charts. Her most recent album, Timeless has hit Number 1 in the Country music charts. Canadian Idol was created by Simon Fuller and is produced in association with CTV by Insight Productions. John Brunton and Barbara Bowlby are Executive Producers. Mark Lysakowski is Supervising Producer. Senior Producer is Sue Brophey. Mary Sexton is Regional Producer. Jane Rimer is Executive Consultant for FremantleMedia. Rick Lewchuk is CTV's Senior Vice-President, Program Planning and Promotion. Ed Robinson is CTV's Senior Vice-President, Comedy, Variety and Talk. Susanne Boyce is CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. SOURCE

www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/entertainment/music/15282711.htm'Cubby' killed, singer charged Country star allegedly shot captive bear in hunting scamBY TAD VEZNER Pioneer Press Between singing and strumming his guitar, country vocalist Troy Lee Gentry has billed himself as a hunting enthusiast and avid archer. But the U.S. government believes it's partly a show, according to court documents released Tuesday in Minnesota. Gentry appeared Tuesday in federal court in connection with the killing of a tame black bear that federal officials say he bought, shot in an enclosed pen with a bow and arrow, and then tagged as if it had been killed in the wild. Gentry, 39, of Franklin, Tenn., and Lee Marvin Greenly, 46, owner of a Sandstone, Minn., wildlife refuge, made their initial appearances Tuesday before a federal judge in Duluth, Minn. The appearance was in connection with a sealed indictment returned by a federal grand jury last month in Minneapolis. Gentry could not be reached for comment through his Nashville, Tenn.-based agent, Steve Dahl, who did not return a phone call Tuesday. The government alleged that Gentry and Greenly tagged a captive-raised bear named "Cubby," killed on Greenly's property in October 2004, with a Minnesota hunting license and registered the animal with the state Department of Natural Resources as if it had been killed from the wild population. The false tagging would be a violation of the federal Lacey Act. Gentry allegedly bought the bear from Greenly for about $4,650. The bear's death was videotaped, and the tape later edited so Gentry appeared to shoot the bear with a bow and arrow in a "fair chase"-hunting situation. The pair then shipped the bear's hide to a Kentucky taxidermist, the indictment said. Both Gentry and Greenly face a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine if convicted. The two were booked by U.S. marshals and released on a signature bond Tuesday. Gentry is half of the hit Kentucky duo Montgomery Gentry , which won the Country Music Association's title for Vocal Duo of the Year in 2000. Gentry, along with co-singer Gerald "Eddie" Edward Montgomery, recently released the song "Some People Change." In an August 2005 interview published in the Sikeston, Mo.-based Standard Democrat, Gentry said he went on his first bear hunt in Minnesota that year, but had been unsuccessful. "I did get to see a bear and had a great hunt. I am looking forward to going back next year," he said in the interview. Greenly's mother, Lavonne, reached by telephone Tuesday night, called her son an "all-American outdoor kid" who had been running a "wildlife refuge" at his 80-acre property in Pine County for 15 years. The refuge 80 miles north of the Twin Cities is billed primarily as a place to shoot photographs. "He started just showing people animals, then got talked into photography," she said. According to court documents, Greenly kept multiple animals, including wolves and bears, on his property, called the Minnesota Wildlife Connection. Of the bears, "Cubby" was the biggest. "Sometimes things go wrong. It hurts me he has to go through all this," Lavonne Greenly added, declining to talk further about the case. Greenly himself could not be reached for comment. The government further alleged that Greenly also worked as a commercial bear guide for those wanting to hunt in the Sandstone National Wildlife Refuge, close to his property, where it is illegal to hunt black bears. One client, authorities said, killed two black bears during a hunt in late August and early September 2005. Greenly faces an additional five years in prison and $20,000 fine for each of those deaths, if convicted. In 2004, Gentry made news locally when he said he would pay for the passage of a herd of deer onto Greenly's property, after the deer became trapped on Minneapolis Water Works property in Columbia Heights and the DNR moved to kill them. At the time, Greenly called Gentry a frequent visitor to his preserve. "He's gone fishing with me. We've gone on motorcycles. I've been to tour dates with him," Greenly told the Pioneer Press. Who wants to take bets that even if Gentry is proven guilty, convicted and sent to prison for killing a tamed and captured bear (all while on videotape to boost his ego, apparently), it's not taken nearly as serious by mainstream country fans as simply having a political opinion? (Yes, I know he's not proven guilty yet.)

(Yes, I know he's not proven guilty yet.) *nodding* If the allegations are true, I'm disgusted. I doubt Gentry will serve any time though (at most probation or community service, and a fine), and I'm going to cynically assume this whole thing will have very little effect on Montgomery Gentry's airplay due to the Good Ol' Boy nature of country radio. After all, it's just some defenseless TAME bear he allegedly shot to apparently boost his sense of self-worth and inflate his macho ego. That's NOTHING compared to the horror of uttering a few words dissing our beloved President, right?

There, fans of the star were able to get a glimpse into the world of Shania Twain. The singer sends her dresses, outfits, awards, and other memorabilia to the center, among other things displayed from Twain's childhood and adolescence in Timmins. Among one of the additions to the Center is an award given to Ms. Twain from The Second Harvest Food Bank of America. It states: "Thank you for being part of the solution, Shania Twain. Trace Adkins is the newest artist featured on www.strippedmusic.com. You can hear stripped down versions of some of his hits and a cover of a Foreigner song. I Came Here To Live is beautiful. I'm surprised his two most recent songs aren't on there but I guess it's hard to strip down Badonkadonk or Swing. Of course, I'm sure experts in the field can strip to these songs but that's another thread, another forum. You can also see their archive of artist performances including Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, Kenny Rogers and Reba.

Jackson To Perform ''Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning'' Friday On ''The Today Show''
Alan Jackson will perform "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)," live in Rockefeller Plaza on "The Today Show" on NBC-TV, as part of their ongoing outdoor Friday Summer Concert Series, tomorrow morning.
Alan was inspired to write "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" a few weeks after the events of September 11th, 2001...and unveiled the song to the world on the CMA Awards in early November of that year. On the six-month anniversary of the events which paralyzed the nation and brought down the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, Alan performed the song on a cold January morning at Rockefeller Center as part of "The Today Show"'s programming that morning. On the one-year anniversary of the attacks, he performed the heartfelt song at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC for an NBC-TV special that aired on 9/11. Of course, this Monday is the fith anniversary of that awful day.
"I'm proud of the response that it got and that people felt like it was something that helped them. I'm not proud that I had to write about something like that and that all that happened, but I think that was something that our generation will always remember and be affected by, just like people...the generation of Pearl Harbor, you know! It's a big, big event that changed so many people's lives and will continue to."
Tomorrow morning, Jackson will also perform his current hit, the title track from his forthcoming new album, "Like Red On A Rose," which will be released on September 25th.

Parton To Receive Kennedy Center Honor In December
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced the selection of the individuals who will receive the Kennedy Center Honors of 2006, and the incredibly distinguished list includes Country singer/songwriter Dolly Parton. Parton joins another singer/songwriter, Smokey Robinson; film director and producer Steven Spielberg; musical theater composer and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber; and conductor Zubin Mehta to be honored at the 29th annual national celebration of the arts.
“This year we honor five extraordinary international artists whose abundant contributions to their fields are remarkable. They have transformed the culture of our country and of the world,” said Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman. “Andrew Lloyd Webber has led a seismic change in our musical theater becoming the most popular theater composer in the world; conductor Zubin Mehta’s profound artistry and devotion to music make him a world treasure; Dolly Parton’s creativity and spirit make her country music’s best international ambassador; Smokey Robinson’s song and voice have created the soundtrack for the lives of a generation of Americans; and Steven Spielberg’s films make him one of the most successful and accomplished directors of all time.”
The annual Honors Gala has become the highlight of the Washington cultural year. The 2006 Honorees will be saluted by stars from the world of the performing arts at a gala performance in the Kennedy Center’s Opera House on Sunday evening, December 3rd, to be attended by the President of the United States and Mrs. Bush, and by artists from around the globe.
The President and Mrs. Bush will receive the Honorees and members of the Artists Committee, who nominate them, along with the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees at the White House prior to the gala performance. The 2006 Kennedy Center Honors Gala concludes with a supper dance in the Grand Foyer.
The Kennedy Center Honors will be bestowed the night before the gala on Saturday, December 2, at a State Department dinner, hosted by the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.
The Honors Gala will be recorded for later broadcast on the CBS-TV for the 29th consecutive year as a two-hour prime time special.
George Stevens, Jr., who created the Honors in 1978 with Nick Vanoff, will produce and co-write the show for the 29th year. The Honors telecast has been honored with five Emmy’s for Outstanding Program as well as the Peabody Award for Outstanding Contribution to Television.
The Honors recipients recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts— whether in dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures or television—are selected by the Center’s Board of Trustees. The primary criterion in the selection process is excellence. The Honors are not designated by art form or category of artistic achievement; the selection process, over the years, has produced balance among the various arts and artistic disciplines.

Jackson To Perform ''Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning'' Friday On ''The Today Show'' As a New Yorker, I am forever grateful to Alan for creating such a brilliant song. When I saw him live in the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island in his first trip back to New York since the tragic day, it was surreal to hear him sing it live, and it is to this day one of the fondest musical memories I have. Thanks for posting...I'll make sure to check it out tomorrow.

Added to the list of performers are Dolly Parton and Wynonna. I would LOVE to hear Dolly and Reba team up on a song...maybe Cathy's Clown since it was Dolly's version that Reba based her rendition on. But they need to get a few more males on this special besides Brooks & Dunn so it doesn't turn into a country version of Divas Live. Not singing but appearing at the special are Barbara Mandrell, James Denton ('Desperate Housewives'), Melissa Peterman ('Reba') and Christopher Rich ('Reba'). Reba McEntire To Be Honored As First CMT "GIANT"Superstars Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Jennifer Nettles and LeAnn Rimes to Pay Musical Tribute to McEntireNASHVILLE – August 16, 2006 – Reba McEntire has been the leading lady of country music for over 20 years and now, for one special night, the stars of music, film and television will pay tribute to their favorite redhead in the new special CMT GIANTS, premiering Saturday, November 18. The two-hour special will be taped in front of a live audience at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and will feature performances by such artists as Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Jennifer Nettles and LeAnn Rimes. Additional artists will be announced at a later date. In CMT GIANTS, McEntire will be honored for her illustrious career, which includes 33 No. 1 hits, 29 albums, 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, seven Country Music Association Awards, two Grammy’s and the CMT Johnny Cash Visionary Award. CMT GIANTS will feature musical superstars singing some of Reba’s biggest hits and a special performance by the honoree herself. “Reba is the ultimate choice for us to honor as the very first 'CMT Giant',” says Sarah Brock, vice president, production, music and events, CMT. “Reba is the real deal; talented, hardworking, not one afraid to take risks, but always remaining true to herself. Reba's success as an artist, an entertainer and a businesswoman is surpassed only by her devotion to her family and friends. She represents the best of country music.'” Having held the title of Top Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year and drawing in millions of fans through her music, television show and clothing line, Reba is the ultimate “Giant” in everything she does. She was the first country female artist to sell five million copies of one album since Patsy Cline and has collectively sold over 49 million albums. From “Can’t Even Get the Blues” in 1982 to “Somebody” in 2004, Reba McEntire has been delivering hit songs for many years. Her music has become a soundtrack for the human experience with such songs as “You Lie,” “Somebody Should Leave” and “Rumor Has It”; she’s inspired others with “I’m A Survivor” and “How Was I To Know”; and broke hearts with “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” and “And Still.” In a career that has expanded beyond music, McEntire is also a multiple award winner in the acting arena. Her critically-acclaimed Broadway debut in 2001’s “Annie Get Your Gun” was awarded both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Awards and her self-titled TV show, “Reba,” landed her a Golden Globe nomination and a People’s Choice Award. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill launched the tour on April 21 and played 73 shows in 55 cities, with a gross of $89 million.
»Shh-Daisy: SheDaisy's Kassidy Osborn is on mandatory vocal rest under the direction of the Vanderbilt Voice Clinic, forcing the trio to cancel this weekend's performances. Affected shows include Wendover, NV on Friday and KWNR/Las Vegas' 4th Annual Double Down Throwdown on Saturday.

Shania's "Up!" tour grossed $ 40.8 million in 2003 and $ 62.5 million in 2004. (The "Up!" tour stretched from September 25, 2003 through July 10, 2004.) The combined number for the "Up!" tour is much higher than $ 89 million. How can the Faith and Tim tour be the "highest grossing country tour of all time"? Wow. SheDaisy just can't seem to catch a break these days. :( I wish Lyric Street would throw some of their Rascal Flatts support to someone else, like SheDaisy.

Sara Evans Discusses Return to Dancing With the StarsCountry Star and Dance Partner Plan to "Shake It" During a Mambo Sara Evans' fans rallied last week to offset low scores from the judges on the TV competition, Dancing With the Stars. And despite rather harsh criticism from the other two judges, choreographer Carrie Ann Inaba told her, "I think you have a natural grace about you which is very nice. I would love to see you just open up." Evans is taking the advice to heart. After performing the fox trot on the first show of season, she and partner Tony Dovolani will be heating things up this week with the mambo. Shortly after MSNBC political pundit Tucker Carlson was voted off during last week's show in Los Angeles, CMT Insider's Lisa Lee talked to Evans and Dovolani about what fans can expect when Dancing With the Stars airs again Tuesday (Sept. 19) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. CMT Insider: What a difference one night makes. The power of country music fans, right?Evans: Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! We love you! Dovolani: The power of country fans! Thank you! What was it like to be up there and have to go through that?Evans: Well, right when they were getting ready to do it, I told Tony, "I need your hand, I need your hand, and so he grabbed my hand, and then they said, "You made it through," and I couldn't let go of you! Are you OK. Dovolani: It's OK. You can choke me all you want. How are you going to celebrate making it through to the next round?Dovolani: We're gonna go back to work. Evans: Yeah, we're gonna go right to the dance studio tomorrow. And we're gonna start working on the mambo. Dovolani: That's exactly what we're gonna do. ... We will make sure that we're always gonna keep the country fans proud of us. One thing the judges said was that they want to see more of your personality. Is the mambo going to give her a chance to show that off?Dovolani: Look out! That's all I've got to say. Everything's gonna come at them now. (laughs) Evans: Yeah, and especially after this week. Now I know what the judges want. They want personality, and the fox trot is a different kind of dance. It's very formal. So with the mambo, I'm just gonna shake it. Dovolani: We are going to shake it a lot. Do you have anything that you're going to do to loosen yourself up?Evans: Not that we can say. I mean, we do some stretches like you've never seen together. (laughs) No, I'm kidding. Dovolani: Actually, what she's gonna do to loosen up is be herself. ... We just need to show these people who Sara Evans is. Evans: Wait, and one more thing. To all my country fans, I'm gonna take a big ol' shot of Jack Daniel's, and then I'm gonna do the mambo. (laughs) I heard that [actress] Kelly Monaco, got a 13 on her first show, and she won last year's competition.Evans: That's true. That's true. You never know. I'm gonna work my butt off. That's all I know. Dovolani: We are most certainly gonna do that. Article: CMT.comOfficial Sara Evans - Dancing With the Stars websiteOfficial Sara Evans website

Gallimore & McGraw Announce Birth Of StyleSonic Record Label
Today Gallimore and McGraw jointly announced formation of their own record label, StyleSonic Records. As their first release, the newly formed label will partner with Fox 2000 and Curb Records for the soundtrack from the forthcoming motion picture "Flicka," due in-stores on October 17th. McGraw will make his starring role debut in the film, when it is released in theatres on October 20th.
“I am so excited to officially announce the new label,” said McGraw. “This is a dream Byron and I have had for a long time – we were excited to be asked to work on the soundtrack, and we also have several new artists that we are in the studio working on.” Gallimore is Nashville ’s top record producer who includes among his credits McGraw, Faith Hill, LeeAnn Womack, John Michael Montgomery, Sugarland and Phil Vassar. He has been named Billboard ’s #1 Hot Country Producer multiple times, as well as an ACM and CMA producer of the year in 1994 and 1999 respectively.
Gallimore and McGraw first began discovering and producing outside music together in 1996 when they joined efforts on JoDee Messina’s career-launching self-titled record. They went on to co-produce her 1998 release of I’M ALRIGHT whose first three single releases from the album all went to #1 - “Bye Bye,” “I’m Alright,” and “Stand Beside Me.”
“I’m looking forward to working with Tim, finding some great new artists and making records together,” said Gallimore from his studio in Nashville . “It’s an amazing time in our careers and this new label creates an outlet for the artists we want to work with.” McGraw adds, “The soundtrack is the perfect launch for StyleSonic. It combines some familiar names with new music that fit the movie perfectly.”
For the “Flicka” soundtrack, for which McGraw also serves as Executive Producer, it was a combination of old and new music.
“We worked with director Michael Mayer, the producers, Fox Music Department and music supervisor Jason Alexander to create a soundtrack the captures the spirit of the book and the movie,” said McGraw. The album tracks range from the Donovan classic “Catch the Wind,” to current tracks from Natasha Bedingfield, Gemma Hayes, Chantal Kreviazuk, Becki Ryan and John Paul White to newly recorded music from the Warren Brothers, Holly Williams, Catherine Raney and McGraw’s band, the Dancehall Doctors. McGraw himself lends his voice and writing skills (with Tom Douglas) to a song written especially for the movie, “My Little Girl,” which has been released as the lead single.

Gross Out: The Soul2Soul II Tour wrapped earlier this month with three consecutive shows in Las Vegas, capping what organizers say is the highest grossing country tour of all time and the top grossing tour of 2006 in any genre. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill launched the tour on April 21 and played 73 shows in 55 cities, with a gross of $89 million. "Highest grossing country tour of all time"? Shania's "Up!" tour grossed $ 40.8 million in 2003 and $ 62.5 million in 2004. (The "Up!" tour stretched from September 25, 2003 through July 10, 2004.) The combined number for the "Up!" tour is much higher than $ 89 million. How can the Faith and Tim tour be the "highest grossing country tour of all time"? Because it's the highest grossing tour during one calendar year.

Because it's the highest grossing tour during one calendar year. It would have been nice if the press releases had been worded that way. As it is, it's misleading and sort of punishes Shania, and other tour record breakers, for having their successful tours last so long and stretched over into another year. Oh well. That's what PR people get paid for. Back to Country News....

"Best New Talent" appeals to me alot. I guess it is in comparison to the Horizon Award, however they dfinatley expanded the horizon on this. Although Carrie will win. It would have been nice if they focused on underrated artists. I am also glad Sawyer Brown got a nomination. They are one of my all time fav groups and the "Mission Temple Fireorks Stand" CD was IMO an astounding album.
(thinks of moving to france...)
