PLEASE release Close Your Eyes, since Ariana never released her all-time best song Tattooed Heart. I could see this song doing REALLY well.

I dont think Close Your Eyes is very radio friendly either. Wasn't there a rumor of a Jason Derulo collaboration early on in this project? Bang Dem Sticks is so blatantly intended for him, it even references Talk Dirty...

The only Thinking of You I know is the jam by Kesha and that wasn't released, at least not to my knowledge. Bang Dem Sticks is pretty fun and silly but I can deal. They could have added Jason Desrouleaux but...why bother? Meghan is fine on her own. Besides, she has the likes of John Legend collaborating with her so why settle?

I believe the "Thinking of You" reference is to the single from Katy Perry's first album, which performed comparatively poorly following her huge success with "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot N Cold." I would definitely imagine a similarly tepid response to Close Your Eyes. Frankly, any of the *solo* ballads give me cause for concern (not that they're not good or not radio-friendly, but they don't feature the hybrid sound that powers AATB, LAM, Dear Future Husband, Title and Walkashame), and that one also lacks lyrical bite (though does have a really pretty vocal).

Her whole sound on the album is pretty much doo-wop and 60's girl group. In that case, Close Your Eyes fits perfectly. That style also includes ballads. If she ONLY releases uptempos, I would think she is in even more trouble (I'm thinking long-term here).
As for Katy Perry's first album...I don't know it.

Yeah she should avoid only releasing uptempo's because we could be looking at the Doo-Wop Kesha if she does.

3rd single will definitely will be hard to choose from here. So many options but how will they avoid making her look like a one trick pony while still maintaining her sound and having a hit? I would want something like Husband to be the 3rd single but I don't want pigeon holing her for that uptempo, retro sound. Maybe the John Legend duet would be a good choice.

One of the downtempos will be the next single, I'd bet money on. If she's performing on the Grammys (which is the rumor), it would make sense to launch the next single there.

I'm expecting the next singles to go like:
"Dear Future Husband" "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" "Bang Dem Sticks" or "Walkashame"

I'm expecting the next singles to go like: "Dear Future Husband" "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" "Bang Dem Sticks" or "Walkashame" Flip the first two around and I think you might just have it! I personally will always see Title as a smash, but if she releases DFH instead I won't be too upset. Walkashame is the best song out of the non-EP released tracks still left, so I hope she chooses that.

Love Walkashame as a single. Mildly concerning that it's not selling as well as the others, but I feel like that's probably one you need to hear in a complete context to really appreciate.
Dear Future Husband still seems like a super obvious choice, but I still worry about the "Runaround Sue" comparison.
I was a proponent of "Title" early on, and still think it's solid, but it burned on me faster than AATB, DFH and LAM.
I like "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" or "3am" for the "change of pace" release. Neither wholly "fits" with her vibe, but the former is selling well, has an appealing combination of voices and would make for a great Grammmys moment. 3am is, in one sense, a low point on the album because it makes no overture to her throwback sound, but her voice sounds fantastic (absolutely stunning on the bridge), it fits her lyrical tone and it obviously has a great pop sensibility. Plus it, too, is selling.

Official estimate is 185-195k (225-235k SPS).
DFH has been such a strong digital seller since its release that I don't see them not releasing it along with LIGLY and probably Walkashame if they go five singles deep.

Grammys are a month away, LAM should probably be starting to slide down the chart by then unless something drastic changes in the next week or so to push it higher. I don't think it would be a problem to intro a new song at the show, particularly if it's LIGLY

I had to defend my like for this girl on social media but I really don't care. I will defend anyone I feel who has actual talent. As much as I sweated Ariana during her debut, I think Meghan is better and more authentic. For all those critics who crying cultural appropriation like she just up and did reggae and Latin inspired music now, she has been playing soca since she was really young and I believe she has an uncle who grew up in Tobago or something. Anyway, she has the vocal talent and her production is tight and her songwriting is current and extremely catchy with great melodies. I'm on board. Oh...fun fact: I never heard All About That Bass in full until I bought the CD. Crazy, right? There was a version I downloaded back in the summer to throw onto my Beach House playlist. It was a crazy remix though - with extra bass and EDM-styled with only snatches of her vocals ("You know that shit ain't real," "I'm bringing booty back," and the title) and t hat was the only version I really knew. I mean, I knew the original existed but I never sought it out and if I happened to be in a car with a radio, I would catch pieces of it and not really pay attention. GREAT song. I think it might actually deserve Record of the Year. Maybe Song, but not quite sure. Since Song goes to the songwriter, I would like Meghan to be recognized but then again, she would get the award either way so... Anyway, very proud of her. Go Cape Cod!

The whole album is just so God damn CATCHY! I just keep putting it on shuffle and listening to every track over and over again. Her vocals and the fun lyrics and those melodies on every single track slay. I don't think she'll ever have a problem with songwriting because she just has such a knack for melody, which is the most important factor to a song in my opinion.

It's going to be so interesting to see if they decide to go wth "Title" for the third single, DFH, or something else. The DFH vs Title single debate has been going on for, quite literally, months now lol.
I concur completely with this. That said, I think she'll be fine with whatever they go with.
It'll be interesting to see Australia's reaction to Dear Future Husband, where it's a single. I suspect the label is also looking closely, too.
I predict they wait as long as they feel they possibly can before saying anything about the third single.

Also: Mr. Almost definitely feels like the hidden gem of the album. That song punches; so unexpectedly great and catchy.

Mr. Almost is so fun! Definitely one of the catchiest ones. The chorus sticks after first listen.

i'm almost certain they'll have almost one ballad as a single (which will probably be the duet) and dear future husband (since its already gone gold). having a fifth single is already a little iffy but definitely possible, but i think it'd be between title and walkashame. i looooove mr. slmost though, and lately i've been able to get over the rap lol!

It's just such a bop. And the rap is so short and humorous that it's w/e.
"Like I'm Gonna Lose You" definitely feels like a perfect era closer.

I suspect the label is also looking closely, too. are you just saying this because of its itunes position or did she confirm it? because that probably means it's the next single here (which i'm surprisingly a little disappointed because a grammy performance with john legend would've been an amazing way to promote the duet. not to mention the samey-ness of the upbeat doowop sound).

So do we all agree that the best bet would be for the John Legend duet to be the 3rd single through the spring and then Dear Future Husband for early summer?
