at the suggestion that Charli XCX should chart on Alternative. There is absolutely NOTHING alternative about her. Could chart ,not should chart. Big difference. ;) NO

To be fair, Charli XCX had tons of indie blog cred before "I Love It" and "Fancy" opened the door for her pop radio success. Had those songs and the subsequent collaborations with Benny Blanco, Stargate, etc. never happened a scenario where alternative ended up being her core format isn't that hard to picture.

Dr. Indie, call 91X and request Boom Clap and see what their reaction is... She gots some Alt radio play in England for "Break The Rules". Maybe if I was over there I'd get my request? 91x would tell me the same thing they said when I requested New Found Glory. "Well look into it"

Charlie Random Letters on alternative would truly be the end of all things.

I bet if You (Ha Ha Ha) had been Charli XCX's breakthrough hit rather than I Love It she'd have more of an Alt presence. I still don't understand how Lorde is considered more Alternative than Charli.

I still don't understand how Lorde is considered more Alternative than Charli. Because Lorde's lyrics are specific and unique - you're not going to hear Lorde (or the Naked And Famous) singing lyrics like "So come on, let's keep doing it like we're doing it" or "I don't care I love it, I don't care I love it" or "Boom clap, the sound of my heart, the beat goes on and on"
Sure, her voice is fine for Alternative, but she chose to write and sing pop instead - it was her decision, right?

Blech, this is up to #2. "First" should probably pass this in the next couple of days, though, hopefully blocking this until Muse/Robert Delong/WTM get there. 8 7 THE STRUTS Could Have Been Me 1577 1494 83 5.139
10 10 AWOLNATION I Am 1346 1179 167 3.347
WTM's sales I think are way too low for it to hit #1 - Robert DeLong's bullet is really small
I think "I Am" and "Could Have Been Me" will stall out in the top 3. Robert's still picking up and WTM actually have higher sales than The Struts, and WTM should pick up even more once/if it gets sent as the follow-up to SUAD on Pop/HAC

The Struts are at #47 on Alternative ITunes, and Walk The Moon are at #111 - are you looking at album sales?

The Struts are at #47 on Alternative ITunes, and Walk The Moon are at #111 - are you looking at album sales? I was actually looking at overall iTunes, but there must have been a glitch or something yesterday, as it showed "Could Have Been Me" down in the 1100s while WTM were right around #1000. Now I see that The Struts have much bigger sales, though. I still don't think they will end up at #1. CWK are about to pass this, so I don't think this has a chance at #1 between Renegades/them/Muse (that is, if it isn't stalling right now). It looks like "Outside" may even end up having a chance at #1, too, so I think this song has a safe #2 peak.

This, CWK, and Beck are so close, that it actually is possible that this will miss #1 because 91X isn't playing it lol

There are also some big stations that haven't added this yet - if they decide to add it, that could easily cause this to rise to #1 with First peaking at #2

The fact that pisses me off the most is that the general public actually seems to like Renegades? Why? What the fuck?

The fact that pisses me off the most is that the general public actually seems to like Renegades? Why? What the f**k? Probably because people these days think soft, folky acoustic music is the new rock. Sad, really.

I don't think anyone's calling it "rock" - they're calling it "Alternative" - honestly, it's more like an Alternative to pop

Nowhere else to go but down. I seriously think Alt let a huge opportunity pass them up with "Dreams"...and for what? Some ; most proboble ,one hit wonder, like "Renegades"

I actually like Renegades, but I wish Dreams had managed to get to #1. I see X Ambassadors performing similarly to Imagine Dragons--Renegades is going to get huge on Pop before the year runs out, they'll release another single that won't do quite as well, but still be pretty big, maybe go a couple more singles in, and then flop with their next album release. It does kind of piss me off that Renegades held off Dreams and Tear in My Heart (and potentially First) from the #1 position, but I like the song.
Oh, this is the Ex's and Oh's thread. I want to see this go #1, too, if just for a couple weeks. It's really grown on me lately.

I still maintain the fact that I don't hate Renegades. Its suspicious seven-week ascent to #1, topped with 500+ bullets and its refusal to die amongst songs like Ex's, Dreams, First and Tear in My Heart, all of which are better, are what drive me insane. It's also a song so plain and vanilla I find it hard to understand how people can really truly love.

I too haven't met anyone who likes Renegades. Even fans of X Ambassadors who took me to see them in concert don't like the song especially compared to their other material. I just can't see what's appealing about Renegades. I guess it's inoffensive? I don't like Ex's but I can see why someone would like it and have met people who do like it. I've met people who dislike First and I don't really care for it but it's not bad and I enjoy and know people who enjoy Dreams. But I guess this is just one part of the country. If you asked me, The Wolf was beyond deserving of #1 but who ever said there was justice in the world of Alt..

I like this link, because the blogger does research of what's popular among Latin/Hispanic Rock/Alt crowd. I'll post the top 10 so you can see its a nice mix of the better music from both charts. You can view the entire 80 with the link below. as you can see, no "Renegades', "Exs and Ohs", "Sedona", "2 Heads" and esp. no HALSEY. Though you will see some of the better Synth pop from PHASES, MSMR and Marina & the Diamonds. stereorockreloaded.blogspot.mx/1 Foals - Mountain At my Gates 2 Disturbed -The Vengeful One 3 Foals -What Went Down 4 City Calm Down -Rabbit Run 5 Ghost -Cirice 6 Beck -Dreams 7 Pop Evil -Footsteps 8 Breaking Benjamin -Failure 9 Atlas Genius -Molecules 10 Breaking Benjamin -Angels Fall

That's a pretty good playlist, I'll have to listen to Rabbit Run cause oven ever heard t before. I've been in Myrtle Beach this weekend for the Breaking Benjamin/Young Guns concert(it was fantastic btw Breaking Benjamin put on a helluva show) so I got the chance to listen to an Alt station that wasn't my own and boy it was just the top 10 alt chart on repeat. Just about every song was new so few recurrents were played and most of them were from the top 10(though I did hear Sedona and 2 Heads unfortunately but I heard Mountain at my Gates and Don't Wait Up thankfully)

Dr. Indie- only thing is...is that a radio airplay chart?
IMO something people on Pulse don't always keep in mind is that it's a message board based on radio airplay charts, in an age when most people who listen to FM radio listen to it in the car or at work to have on in the background, and the last thing they want to have to do is get up from their desk or be distracted from the road to change the station - if we put together some kind of an Active and Alternative combined sales chart, and only included the songs people classified as "rock", it would look much more like the chart you posted, at least I think

I'd be listeing to that all the time. Its a blog from Lima,Peru and a compilation of the most popular Alt/Rock current songs among the Latin /Hispanic community and throughout the Latin countries. It's pretty accurate from what I see on my side of the border too. I havn't seen that progression musically onto that Folky/alt side of things and I'm not complaining either. ;)
