As we head into the final 3rd of the year, I figured I'd start a thread discussing this topic: what has been the biggest hit of 2014? Personally I'll take into account sales, airplay, and critical acclaim (though not to the same extent as the above two).
My pick: Luke Bryan's "Play It Again"
4 weeks at BB #1, unheard of these days 2 weeks at MB #1 Platinum in sales, going on double platinum Strong call out scores (if I remember correctly) #1 peak on the Hot Country Songs Chart
Honorable Mentions:
Dierks Bentley, "Drunk on a Plane" - 2 weeks at #1, going on platinum in sales Florida Georgia Line feat. Luke Bryan, "This Is How We Roll" - #2 BB/MB peak, #1 Hot Country Songs, going on double platinum Jake Owen, "Beachin'" - BB/MB #1, Platinum in sales, #1 Hot Country Songs (I believe)

I would have to say Joe Nichols "Yeah" didn't that spend like 3 or 4 weeks on top of country airplay? But i have to agree with Markus on the other ones. Might be a bit early to say but Aldean could have it with "Burnin It Down"

I agree that "Play It Again" is probably the biggest hit of the year so far. Other songs I would put into consideration:
"This Is How We Roll" "Yeah" "Drunk On A Plane" "Automatic" "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" "Drink A Beer"

"Play It Again" is definitely the top song so far, even though I'm not a big fan. Runner ups would be "This Is How We Roll", "Bottoms Up", "Beachin'", "Drunk on a Plane", and "Drink To That All Night". "American Kids" is getting close though, same with "Dirt".

This looks more like a list of the worst songs of 2014 (with "Yeah" and "Mama's" being the exceptions). Sorry, had to say it.

Made a summary for 2014 ranking songs & artists:
Methology (totally not scientific :) ): Sources: nielsen / bds / soundscan / Survey period: weeks 01-35 / 01/04/14-08/30/14 (Billboard print street dates)
CAP: Airplay 100 points = #1 on Radio Songs = 100 points & #50 on Country Airplay (composite including recurrents) = 1 point CDS: Sales 100 points = #1 on Digital Songs = 100 points & #50 con Country Digital Songs = 1 point CST: Streaming 25 points = #1 = 25 points and #25 = 1 point. Ratio 1:~10 used in order not to inflate the numbers Featured artists got only 20% of total awarded to lead artist
Top Ten as follows. Deep lists attached.
CAP CDS CST 009 001 004 01 "This Is How We Roll": Florida Georgia Line F/Luke Bryan 012 002 002 02 "Bottoms Up": Brantley Gilbert 005 003 006 03 "Play It Again": Luke Bryan 008 011 005 04 "Get Me Some Of That": Thomas Rhett 003 008 018 05 "Drink to That All Night": Jerrod Niemann 020 004 016 06 "Beachin'": Jake Owen 015 006 010 07 "Drink A Beer": Luke Bryan 006 009 013 08 "Give Me Back My Hometown": Eric Church 001 026 017 09 "When She Says Baby": Jason Aldean 030 005 015 10 "I Don't Dance": Lee Brice

You're thinking of the biggest "Bomb" of 2014. ;)

Now, I'd add "Roller Coaster", "Bartender" and "American Kids" to my initial list (though I still think that "Play It Again" is the biggest hit of the year at this point).

Burnin' It Down might be the closest song to Play It Again now. The sales have been unbelievable, lots of video views, and looks like a lock for at least 2 weeks on top of Airplay chart, not to mention it will have roughly 10 weeks or more on Hot Country Songs. Go figure that the two biggest hits of the year come from the 2 biggest stars.

For sure, let's rank country songs by how many non-country fans buy their singles :)

I think Play it Again probably wins this one. I could see it being Drunk on a Plane, but we went through that one a little faster. Honestly, a great case could be made for Yeah. For a non A-lister to have a three-week #1 in the middle of summer, that's pretty impressive. There were days where I would hear it 3 or 4 times in my car.
