I was driving home with someone tonight and "Smoke Rings In The Dark" came on. Then I said, "This song just sounds so much better at night doesn't it". That got me to thinking, what are some other country songs that seem to be even better listening during the overnight hours. There's obviously some that have the word "Night" or even "Midnight" in the title, but I think there are definitely plenty that don't that could be mentioned. :)
"Midnight In Montgomery" - Alan Jackson (duh) "Smoke Rings In The Dark" - Gary Allan "We Fly By Night" - Gary Allan "Somewhere With You" - Kenny Chesney "Bad Things" - Jace Everett "Desperately" - George Strait "Living For The Night" - George Strait "Live This Life" - Big & Rich "Kiss Me In The Dark" - Randy Rogers Band "The Night's Too Long" - Patty Loveless "Last Call" - Lee Ann Womack (duh, again) "Neon Moon" - Brooks & Dunn (duh, a third time)
Perhaps there's some that might not necessarily be a night time song for others but you think it is.

Hmm, interesting thread. I usually have a nightly ritual that consists of a couple glasses of red wine and certain songs. Here's a current list of some of those songs that accompany the wine:
"Holding Up The Sky" - Mary Chapin Carpenter "You're Just A Country Boy" - Alison Krauss "Forget About It" - Alison Krauss "Simple Love" - Alison Krauss "Broadway" - Alison Krauss & Union Station "Rich Woman" - Alison Krauss and Robert Plant (don't know why this is on my nighttime playlist...) "We'll Come Back Around" - Craig Morgan "Let It Rain" - David Nail "Burnin' Bed" - David Nail "Brand New Day" - David Nail "The Secret" - David Nail "Lonesome Valley" Carlene Carter (this is a new song from her album) "The Long Journey Home" - Rodney Crowell "Whenever You Come Around" - Willie Nelson's version from his new album
Another song that I used to listen during the night's was George Strait's song "Poison"...such a great song.
edit: I have to add "Gone Crazy" to the list. quite the night time song for myself.

I've always thought Love and Theft's "If You Ever Get Lonely" sounded better at night.

Personal experience makes "If You Ever Get Lonely" a well worth listen any time of day.
A couple more I love hearing at night:
"Three Mississippi" - Terri Clark "Three Wooden Crosses" - Randy Travis "Long Black Train" - Josh Turner "Stay With Me" (Brass Bed)" - Josh Gracin "Bop" - Dan Seals "Dream Big" - Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband (maybe because the first time I ever heard this song was at 2:00 a.m)

That's actually a pretty eerie song.

"Only A Dream" by Mary Chapin Carpenter. This is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard, and even moreso at night.

Good Thread. To me a lot of the night time playlists are perfect for including some of those driving/road songs.
Here are some of mine : Smoke Rings in The Dark, Bourbon Borderline, A Showman's Life, Life Ain't Always Beautiful - Gary Allan Long Trip Alone, Settle For A Slowdown, Come A LIttle Closer, Whiskey Tears, I Hold On - Dierks Bentley Springsteen, These Boots, Love Your Love The Most, Faster Than My Angels Can Fly, Devil Devil, Creepin - Eric Church Colder Weather, Goodbye In Her Eyes, - Zac Brown Band Everywhere, Diamond Rings and Old Barstools - Tim McGraw Heaven, Journey of Your LIfe, Alone With You, What We Ain't Got- Jake Owen Entire Relentless Record, The Truth, On My Highway, Asphalt Cowboy, Black Tears, Night Train, Wheels Rollin, - Jason Aldean Pretty much any Hank Williams Sr. song would do well at night. A lot of the Johnny Cash American Recordings albums.

^ Tough All Over especially but really all of them would work except maybe Used Heart For Sale Yeah, but Gary's music is so good, I think whether it's 2:00 p.m or 2:00 a.m, you should listen to his songs. ;) True story - I actually first listened to that album in the dead of night when it came out. It was a Tuesday night in October of 2005 and I was a sophomore in high school. When my Dad got home, we rushed to the store to buy the album. I must have listened to it three or four times that night til maybe 2 or 3 in the morning. You certainly get a eerie feeling listening to tracks like "He Can't Quit Her", "I Just Got Back From Hell", "Promise Broken", and "Nickajack Cave" after midnight.

Great thread idea. I'm more of an old-school album guy than individual song listener, and there are some albums that I almost always play at night, preferably right before I go to bed. This is usually because the album cover or title suggests a nighttime atmosphere, there are many songs that take place at night, or I just think it sounds better when there's no daylight:
Alan Jackson, Like Red on a Rose Emmylou Harris, Quarter Moon in a Ten Cent Town Gary Allan, Tough All Over George Jones, The Grand Tour Jamey Johnson, That Lonesome Song, The Guitar Song John Prine, Self-Titled Justin Townes Earle, Midnight at the Movies Kathy Mattea, Coal Keith Whitley, Don't Close Your Eyes, Wherever You Are Tonight Patty Loveless, Sleepless Nights Ray Price, Night Life (most any live album really, but especially this one) The Mavericks, Trampoline Waylon Jennings, Dreaming My Dreams
