ONE DIRECTION TO RELEASE “STEAL MY GIRL” THE LEAD SINGLE FROM THE UPCOMING ALBUM, FOUR, MONDAY SEPTEMBER 29 BAND SET TO DEBUT SONGS FROM FOUR LIVE ON NBC’s TODAY SHOW MONDAY NOVEMBER 17 (NEW YORK, NY; COLUMBIA RECORDS; SEPTEMBER 14, 2014) –Globe conquering pop band One Direction announce the September 29 release of “Steal My Girl”, the lead single from their highly anticipated new album FOUR. Over cascading stadium piano chords, “Steal My Girl” shows the band continuing to expand their influences and song-writing ability while retaining their widescreen pop sound. “Steal My Girl” is written by Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne with Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan – the collaborative team behind last year’s massive single “Best Song Ever” – and is produced by Bunetta, Ryan and Paro Westerlund. “Fireproof,” the first look into the new album FOUR, was gifted to fans for a period of 24 hours via the bands official website www.onedirectionmusic.com. “Fireproof” became the most downloaded free track ever in the 24 hours it was available, with over 1.1 million downloads. FOUR immediately shot to number one around the world in over 65 countries on the day it was made available for pre-order – comfortably beating third album MIDNIGHT MEMORIES, which was number one in 39 countries and went on to become the top selling album of 2013 worldwide. One Direction will celebrate the release of FOUR on NBC’s TODAY show with a special performance live from Universal Orlando Resort. Kicking off their album release week, the band will join the TODAY show anchor team for the Orlando broadcast on Monday, November 17. One Direction made their first national television appearance on TODAY more than two years ago, and they drew record-breaking crowds with their Rockefeller Plaza concert last summer. With a staggering 94 number ones and over 46 million records sold, in just four short years, One Direction have gone from energetic pop upstarts to international superstars. As the band's song writing becomes more personal with each record, FOUR is set to be their most stunning yet. The album follows the global success of their huge sell out WHERE WE ARE stadium tour and the 3D film documentary THIS IS US. Fans will have the opportunity to relive this summers’ tour with the release of their second film WHERE WE ARE: THE CONCERT FILM, in theaters for one weekend only October 11th and 12th and released to DVD on December 2. Add all this to their 3 billion YouTube views, 109 million combined Twitter followers and 33 million Facebook fans and it’s clear that Liam, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn genuinely are a worldwide phenomenon. FOUR will be released globally on November 17, 2014 via Syco/Columbia Records. Fans can receive “Steal My Girl” instantly on September 29 if they preorder the deluxe album on iTunes: smarturl.it/1DFouriTdlx.

I think they are the weirdest boy band ever. First of all, they are probably the only classic boyband unable to dance, wich of course make things way easier to them because that silly choreographies of the 90's weren't that easy. Second, they release very few singles for album, generally three, and with luck only one is a big hit.
But they sell album like champions anyway

There were only two US hits from "Up All Night", but I think there would have been more if "Take Me Home" wasn't ready to go when it was. In any case, four albums in four years (actually less time than that in the US) is pretty darn prolific nowadays.

That's very impressive, especially considering that NSYNC never made it past 3 albums and BSB took nearly 5 years to release their fourth album here.
If only album sales haven't fallen so hard since 2000...1D could've outsold them by now.

One Direction's consistently good sales without major, consistent airplay or intense, focused, American promo schedules is pretty impressive. If I remember correctly, they have one that sold 2 million and two other cds that sold over a million. Now, mind you these numbers are usually only gained after like, massive unbelievable promo tours and like, 5 singles getting good airplay and promo by most other pop stars. I wonder if this will continue the streak and go #1 and eventually reach platinum as well.

Whether or not it will make it to platinum, on the other hand is still up in the air. 1D's sales are jaw-dropping. Nobody could have predicted a UK boy band having this much success internationally. When 1D first came to the US, everyone was saying they wouldn't stand a chance there with Bieber Fever in full swing. People said we won't see a new wave of Bieber Fever. They were right. The 1D craze is nothing like Bieber Fever. This is NSYNC/Backstreet levels of hysteria they're experiencing.

People may be seeing a bit of the hysteria that comes along with the boybands, but they don't have anywhere near the body of music NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys had. 1D barely have a handful of songs that the general public can identify. Maybe in a few years and maybe with this new album they will have more hits???

It is rather interesting that 1D has been able to consistently sell 1-2 million copies of each of their albums while having relatively lackluster/borderline mediocre radio success. In fact, without WMYB or SOML they are essentially a no-name act on radio in the US. Without radio support, I'm not sure they can sustain this level of sales/hype they seem to have whenever they do anything.
Truthfully, I really do hope they get more radio success this era. I think they deserve it, and I think their music is arguably amongst the best pop music today. For whatever reason there still seems to be a stigma that surrounds them and their music, and I really hope radio can see past that with their new album and show the world everything 1D has to offer.

It's hard to compare record sales because it's a totally different era, but ticket sales are way crazier for 1D. They just did three nights in a row at the Rose Bowl Stadium in LA.

BSB and N'sync had a way more difficult run to success. They totally failed when first released in the USA. Only after reaching success in europe they really impacted in their home country.
They were more classical boybands, they had their choreographies, and even the albums really sold a lot, they have a good bunch of single hits.
I think the first surprised by OD success is their own label, because this release of albums non stop seems more an strategy to cash the cow as fast as you can, wich frankly right now it seems a little absurd, because their staying power is undeniable. It's true that this kind of singers suddenly flop and they never recover their popularity, but in this new internet era, it seems the transition to adult entertainers is not as difficult. Bieber almost did it (and he maybe still has a chance if he stop being a jerk full time).
And for a band made on a casting the members really seem to like each other wich is almost necessary to avoid an early break up. There are a thousand blind items about them, but none of them are about bad relationships between the members.
Anyway i think it will be better for them in the long run if they had more than one hit per album, that would made their team to slow down a bit with the albums releases, and all of them will benefit from that

Anyway i think it will be better for them in the long run if they had more than one hit per album, that would made their team to slow down a bit with the albums releases, and all of them will benefit from that I agree with everything you said. I really hope after FOUR they can take a solid break of at least 6 months. I feel like it's getting to the point where the boys are just exhausted and I think they really need to take an extended break after this album era. (If it were up to me actually, we would've gotten 1-2 more singles from MM to get through their WWA tour, and given them the first 6 months of 2015 as an extended break.) Between recording and writing for albums, touring, promo, and all the merchandise they have out right now they just haven't had a chance to catch their breath and take it all in, kick back and just relax a bit. I really hope they get a chance to do that soon because if they aren't given a chance to do that in the near future I really think they're gonna crash and burn, either from overexhaustion or just plain getting tired of it, and that will be a terrible day for not only Directioners but pop music as a whole.

It doesn't sound good. Anyway, till now they didn't need hits to sell albums, and with the sales alone it will grant a nice peak position at billboard hot 100

Not hearing anything this new single in the UK ? . The label really messed it up in Europe after the huge success of SomL . I hope they get it right this time , but it is already looking shambolic .
