On My Mind is out, pretty meh but sounds like a hit. I've heard it so far twice and I agree with you... meh. I don't know, perhaps not the sound I was expecting from her. In my opinion, the sound of her previous album was so especial and different from what the rest of pop girls were offering. I don't like the idea of seeing Max Martin in the mix of producers of this new album. I hope she doesn't end up sounding like everybody else...

Max Martin, if you have followed his productions in the last, I dunno, 10 years or so, has proven to be quite the dynamic and varied producer, so I wouldn't worry about her sounding like everyone else. I don't think she is capable, based on her voice alone. Anyway, great song. Love the chorus and love that it's a response to Ed's song.

I'm glad that the album has so much content. Hopefully On My Mind is an outlier, and the rest of the album isn't as bland and faceless.

From the Official Charts: She said the following about it: "A part of me views this album as an experiment - to make a big pop album. I made a conscious decision that I wanted it to be on another level." And regarding the title of the album, she added: "It can be describing a really happy, crazy state, or it can be the complete opposite. I'm constantly in a state of delirium."

I go on and off Ellie Goulding. That quote above about viewing making a big pop album as an 'experiment' bothers me a bit. It's like she's implying she has no commercial motives at all and if it fails, can always put it down to being an 'experiment'. Adds to my feeling that she can be slightly arrogant.
When she started out in the UK she was seen as a bit more 'indie' and to see a producer list like that isn't really surprising given Burn, the Calvin Harris tracks and LMLYD, it's just interesting.
OMM sounds a bit average, but definitely interested to hear the album.

OMM sounds a bit average, but definitely interested to hear the album. I wouldn't say there's no commercial motive at all, but it does give the impression that she didn't have these huge pop It Girl goals for her previous two albums. Likely she has always viewed herself more as an artiste than as a pop commodity, despite being a pop singer. So she isn't necessarily driven enough that it's the only thing she wants and anything less will feel like failure to her. However, she's had enough success that the It Girl potential is there now and she's not so snobbish that she thinks she is above being a pop commodity. In fact, she has been watching and studying carefully; as Glove Slap so aptly pointed out to the rave reviews of ATRL , she's been paying attention. So this is her saying, 'you know what, I'm gonna shoot for the moon. I'll give it all I've got and see what comes of it. #anythingcouldhappen' In that sense, it is an experiment, and as long as it doesn't feel like such a left turn that fans think she is selling out and abandon her over it, I think she is fine. That's normally a difficult thing for artists to pull off, but I think Ellie has set herself up perfectly for it. Arrogant, mmm, maybe? I don't care enough to really look for it in her because it wouldn't mean anything. That attitude is a dime a dozen in the industry (in fact if an artist weren't at least a little cocky I would question if they had what it takes to make it) and there are so many people who are more conspicuous or obnoxious about it than she'll ever be. As for OMM I love it. It kind of feels like a lighter take on Halcyon but it's still got some of the hard edge that some of those tracks had. Super excited about the album as well.

2016 tour being announced soon. Tickets on sale next week.
The fossils at Popjustice and their 1985 ideals are seething, as are the UKMix people that just want her to stay another British alt-pop side girl; I am grinning.

Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-AHH! I'm in love with On My Mind to the max. I'm here for Ellie experimenting with this route to see if it's a fit for her. She's been left out of talks with other "Pop" artist for too long.

Sad to see my king Jamie Scott didn't make the cut for the album, but that's a stacked lineup of cowriters/producers beyond Max and co. (Mozella, Wrabel, Joel Little, Guy Lawrence, Jimmy Napes)! Ready to see her ascend to pop's A-list over the next year.

2016 tour being announced soon. Tickets on sale next week. The dates are on her Facebook page and it's only an European leg for now. *crossing fingers for a Latin American leg later next year* The fossils at Popjustice and their 1985 ideals are seething, as are the UKMix people that just want her to stay another British alt-pop side girl; I am grinning. Sad to see my king Jamie Scott didn't make the cut for the album O. I forgot that she worked with Jamie Scott and Sacha Skarbek and I even posted the pic here!

I can see her being apart of Jamie's next project or a side-EP in the meantime. He won't let that collaboration go to waste. He CAN'T let it go to waste.

Ellie's performance at the Apple Music Festival begins in a couple of hours and she tweeted that she's playing a new song, which is presumably "On My Mind" because of the hashtag.

Her performance at the Apple Music Festival ended some minutes ago and I enjoyed it. She played "On My Mind" for the first time and I think it sounds much better live. The setlist is written below.
1. "Outside" (Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding) 2. "Ritual" 3. "Goodness Gracious" 4. "Animal" 5. "Starry Eyed" 6. "Stay Awake" (Ellie Goulding & Madeon) 7. "My Blood" 8. "Your Song" 9. "Joy" 10. "Powerful" (Major Lazer featuring Ellie Goulding & Tarrus Riley) 11. "Figure 8" 12. "Only You" 13. "Anything Could Happen" 14. "I Need Your Love" (Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding) 15. "Lights" 16. "You My Everything" 17. "Burn"
Encore: 18. "On My Mind" 19. "Love Me Like You Do"

She's had a few cute songs, but 'On My Mind' is the first one to really win me over.
This song is not about Ed Sheeran though, lol. The chorus (to me) implies that she still has feelings for whoever the f**k, and I don't think she thinks twice about Ed really.

She said it's an amalgamation of things she went over w Max & his crew. I think the verses are more in line with Ed, but the other stuff just came about from those sessions imo. This was also written a while back I think since the title had been floating around for months.

Ah, that would make more sense then. I genuinely thought it was about him until the chorus hit, especially the bit about messing with love/the truth (what kind of negaverse-Taylor Swift-esque lyric?).

Yeah, there is no doubt in my mind, after hearing Don't countless times, that On My Mind is about him, at least in the verses. She even interpolates some of his lyrics LOL (just like he did in his song) but I was a little confused by the chorus as well. It's entirely possible that she does still hold him in high regard, which is why she never openly attacked him after his song.

Here for her this era. Don't know why she hasn't stood out to be in per past eras, but I'm hooked and ready now.

It's entirely possible that she does still hold him in high regard, which is why she never openly attacked him after his song. Before knowing it was a combo of experiences she and her co-writers had, I had kind of wondered if she was alternating who the song was about, like maybe first verse/pre-chorus is the 1D guy, second is Ed, bridge is someone else...it subtly felt like she was switching up the storytelling throughout the song. OTOH it could still be entirely about Ed in the sense that she flat out says in the first verse that it wasn't that deep for her, and in the second verse "I could have really liked you." So she's confused as to why she keeps thinking about him because she wasn't ever really that into him, and thinks he's messing with the truth by acting as if he was so into her that his feelings were hurt. She just keeps thinking of what could have been - maybe more stuck on the idea of him than to him. As she says in the bridge they're both just afraid of being alone. I think that might also go along with still thinking of him highly...even if she doesn't really believe it was deep for him either, at the end of the day she's still the one who did wrong by cheating, and she might be guilt tripping about it. I love how the writing gives us so many different possible meanings, to be such a supposedly straightforward pop song.

I want two or three promotional singles to be entirely sold. OMM is great but fell a bit short from what I'm expecting.
