Codywasn't that basically what 2011 was?
I donno, let's look at some random mid 2011 BB alternative chart from June 4 2011 (mid-year, to be as fair to the year as possible). The 20-25/40 group I suggested will be Group A, the 10-15/40 group will be B, and the 5/40 exceptions group will be C

*Bands like Death Cab, CTE, and The Strokes are veterans, but fit so perfectly into the current trend that I count them as Group A
So yeah, this is close, but there are a couple too many "C" songs, and we just don't need that. Like there's no reason Adelitas Way or Sixx: A.M. should be on alternative, replace those two with the 2 best poissible songs from the A or B categories, as they still have room.
For the next post you made about how you'd divide it:
15/40 of up and rising artists
10/40 of good, quality Active crossovers
15/40 of core bands
I think that's WAY too many active crossovers. That brings us to the back to the 2005-2010 problems where bands like Godsmack and Saliva who don't belong rob bands like Interpol and Cold War Kids of spins. In today's chart, you'd have to include songs like "Messed Up World", "1000HP", "Drown", "Edge Of A Revolution", "Wrong Side Of Heaven", and "Beautiful" to fill your quota. Kepp the purely active stuff mostly on active, I think even you'd have to see with the above 2011 example or how close it resembles my proposed breakdown, that's the optimal alternative chart.
I'll give
Shadows in the Dark my sympathy in disagreeing with me because I get that he listens to the radio alot and doesn't have an active station in his market, and if he did I'm sure he wouldn't care nearly as much about alternative. Still though Shadowscorp, I'm sure you'd be more than happy to settle for the idea I proposed if it meant moving away from what it is now haha.
