Hopefully SIO won't dethrone AATB in the next few days/weeks (but it seems very likely for it to grab the top spot). Also, first time in months not seeing Happy in the top 40.

Good to see Animals taking off. Something propelled it into the top 5 on iTunes really quickly...just airplay exposure I guess? It was all the way up to #3 at one point yesterday, and is now hanging at like #5. They are on SNL tonight right? That should give them a nice boost...and I think we need a voice performance of the song soon please.

The video pushed it into the Top 10 earlier this week and I think that, growing airplay and the commercial have just added to momentum.

The video plus the tv adds has also helped with sales of "Animal as well. The song is more than likely going to end up doing better than "Maps".

Just now joining this thread on Sunday LOL #noob And it looks like ASFOS will juuuuuust miss the top 10 in radio :( does anyone know the record for the biggest gap between a song first reaching the top ten in sales and reaching the top ten in airplay? And wow I didn't realize how quickly Problem and Fancy had plummeted! :O I thought they were still in the top 40 or at least top 50...they even fell below WMU, Pompeii, Dark Horse, Happy, and Counting Stars...damn :O

Radio stations tend to drop hits faster if there is a really popular follow-up. This is part of why almost all the long-running Hot 100 songs are isolated hits that did not have big follow-up singles: 87 weeks – Imagine Dragons — "Radioactive" (2014) 79 weeks – Awolnation — "Sail" (2014) 76 weeks – Jason Mraz — "I'm Yours" (2009) 69 weeks – LeAnn Rimes — "How Do I Live" (1998) 68 weeks – LMFAO featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock — "Party Rock Anthem" (2012) 67 weeks – OneRepublic — "Counting Stars" (2014) 65 weeks – Jewel — "Foolish Games" / "You Were Meant for Me" (1998), Adele — "Rolling in the Deep" (2012) 64 weeks – Carrie Underwood — "Before He Cheats" (2007) 62 weeks – Lifehouse — "You and Me" (2006), The Lumineers — "Ho Hey" (2013) Of all those, only LMFAO, Adele, and to a lesser extent Imagine Dragons had big follow-ups -- none of the other songs were followed by a top ten hit from the same era.

And wow I didn't realize how quickly Problem and Fancy had plummeted! :O I thought they were still in the top 40 or at least top 50...they even fell below WMU, Pompeii, Dark Horse, Happy, and Counting Stars...damn :O I said this in another thread, but the difference between Problem/Fancy and all the other songs you mentioned is that Iggy and Ariana had huge follow-up singles that went top 5 -- none of those other artists did. "Demons" was pretty massive... It didn't go number one like "Someone Like You" and "Sexy and I Know It," but a big part of that was the way Imagine Dragons' single releases were so spread out amongst formats. "Demons" likely would have been a number one hit had it been released at the rock, pop, and AC stations at all the same time, rather than months apart, though that's all due to "It's Time" taking so long to latch on at pop.

Yeah, I'd have to agree that a top 10 single that spends 14 months on the chart is pretty solid lol

Longevity certainly does indicate staying power, but look at "I'm Yours"- it didn't factor in Billboard's all-time Hot 100 chart. Definitely a solid hit, though- just one that, because it didn't reach No. 1 or even the top 2 or 3, will always be "less" of a hit than the long-running No. 1s of its time.

If those estimates hold that gap between "All About That Bass" and "Shake It Off" is getting even smaller this week.

I said this in another thread, but the difference between Problem/Fancy and all the other songs you mentioned is that Iggy and Ariana had huge follow-up singles that went top 5 -- none of those other artists did. Sorry, didn't mean to imply Demons wasn't a big hit -- more that it was not an immediate smash follow-up in the way that "Someone Like You" and "Sexy and I Know It" were. "Demons" hit the top ten after "Radioactive" had already been charting for 60 weeks, so it didn't really eat into Radioactive's longevity.

Surprised that "Yellow Flicker Beat" didn't make Spotify's top 50 this week given that it was in their daily charts for a few days when it first hit Spotify.

The gap between Taylor and Meghan on Spotify widens this week as well. Hmm. If this overall trend (sales, airplay, streaming) continues Taylor could very well gain back the top spot next week.
