This deserved better than #4. Heck, LAM should have gone #1, IMO.

I know it's a not an 'underperformance' but why was this song not as nearly as big of a hit as AATB? i think the major thing was that it peaked in sales and radio at the wrong times (in terms of peak). otherwise, idk. the video seemed more low-budget than aatb even though we know she definitely had a bigger one, but everyone i talked to about this song liked it a lot better than aatb. who knows? it did keep her on radio though and fueled her #1 album, so at least we know there's interest in her. :)

This did fine. The only thing they've done off w her is not having announced a proper 3rd single.

Lol, I've been waiting for the 3rd single announcement for weeks, You would have to think that with this definitely peaking that they will release/announce something soon. I can't wait.

I know it's a not an 'underperformance' but why was this song not as nearly as big of a hit as AATB? AATB was such a big hit that most artists will never, ever see a song of theirs dominate that much. It would probably serve us well not to compare every single one of her singles to that one. This was a top 5 hit at both her home formats, had some longevity (pop was pretty resistant to it at first so I bet part of the problem is some of the people who first picked it up started dropping it), sold decently, allowed her to avoid becoming the next Carly Rae, and helped keep the album sales surprisingly steady. Now, for her third single I hope they are a bit more aggressive though especially in choosing something that isn't immediately like AATB. The Lips video was beyond lame too and also looked like a cheap version of the AATB video.

Aggressive would be releasing bang dem sticks. Which I hope they do, great song, totally different than anything on the radio now, and different for her.

I know it's a not an 'underperformance' but why was this song not as nearly as big of a hit as AATB? A) Timing. It's perhaps poetic that Meghan Trainor, whose All About That Bass prevented Taylor Swift's Shake it Off from enjoying a proper stint atop pop and the Hot 100, was victimized by poor timing here. She had the biggest song this summer & early fall, and it overshadowed some other good songs. Lips are Movin just never felt like the biggest song around during its late fall/winter run. And the explosion of Uptown Funk and Thinking Out Loud completely sealed that fate. B) Wasn't as good. I know many played into the game of declaring this "so much better than All About That Bass" because it came out at a time when AATB had been so overplayed that it wasn't cool anymore, but this just wasn't as perfect a pop song (though it was still quite good). C) Wasn't as fresh. Others have mentioned this - All About That Bass was a gamechanging sound. This played off that sound in a way that worked really well, but it was too close to the original to recreate magic. There's a CLEAR audience for her sound, she has a great ear for pop melodies, and I think she can continue to have some big hits. But AATB was a special kind of disruptive, and it'll be hard for her to make that happen again. D) Didn't have the brand. This is a song about a duplicitous lover - it's relatable, but it's not exactly fresh, unique or personal. It's certainly not the novel, empowering, resonant thing she put forth on All About That Bass. And beyond helping making the song connect, the message of All About That Bass garnered a ton of helpful media attention (positive and negative) that only made the song and its video even bigger. It also made "bass" a part of the zeitgeist. So much so that Lips are Movin can shamelessly references "bass" and it doesn't even seem that weird or tacky. When a song can do that, it's for freaking real. That the message fit *HER* and thus didn't feel like insincere pandering made everything about All About That Bass even more special. E) Didn't get the big performances. There were two MAJOR, logical opportunities to promote this (AMAs and the Grammys), and she for some reason wasn't booked on those despite being a key nominee (particularly at the latter). She was on The Voice finale and was pleasant (although there WAS that microphone incident that some took as proof that she was lip syncing), but she shared that stage with names like Bruno Mars, Fall Out Boy and Jessie J who were on a completely different level that night.

They need to break her out of the doo-wop sound as soon as possible. It'll only hurt her in the long run. She should release "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" next, and "Bang Dem Sticks" for the summer.

I really don't understand why they aren't announcing single #3. I don't dare believe that Epic will mess this up, but I'm starting to get nervous.
The last Epic artist to get a number one album besides Meghan was Sara Bareilles, and we all know how hard they screw her over every album with her follow up singles...
I'm very concerned.

lmao this song literally just peaked and is still in the top 5 at radio, there's no reason to be worried or concerned yet. they're obviously going to release a 3rd single.

The last Epic artist to get a number one album besides Meghan was Sara Bareilles, and we all know how hard they screw her over every album with her follow up singles... I'm very concerned. I'd wager that the reason they're hesitating is precisely because they do not want to screw this up. She's too valuable for their brand. Let's not forget that "Lips are Movin" was the *THIRD* song to have been identified as a third single. "Dear Future Husband" had been presented to the media as a single, then "Title" seemed like a 'go,' and then LAM came out of nowhere. I believe the album as originally set for a holiday season launch before being moved to January. They're second- and third-guessing everything Meghan Trainor. There is a lot to consider here. You have Dear Future Husband which has been a reliable performer, but you have the Runaround Sue issue + the potential "Tennis Court" situation. You have "Title" which almost certainly has promo material done already (plus a video, right?), but you know going in that fans have always been more interested in DFH. And then you have "Like I'm Gonna Lose You," which changes the pace, has sold well, is an endearing ballad and features a big name collaborator in John Legend but is also the safest/least unique of her songs plus risks competing with "Glory" if that actually gets a push. I wouldn't put it past Epic to screw this up, but I would put it past them to forget that they need to pick a new single.

They'll definitely, obviously pick a single. They have "Title" shot already.
We're just impatient about what it's going to be because it's felt like, from my eyes, the DFH vs. Title thing has been going on since the EP dropped.

She can break out of it AFTER Title and DFH are released. The last thing I want from her is for her to sound like everyone else. Her sound is unique. Why fix a record that isn't broken? But longterm-wise, yea she'll turn into a Ke$ha if she isn't careful. Bring on Title, I say!!

Title has a similarity to her other songs, but brings a nice acoustic feel to it, I think it should be the next single.

as i said in the album thread it is possible they might wait till she has a break in her current tour which ends March 21st and starts up again on April 9th .during that period she could possibly start promoting her next single during the iHeart Radio Awards and or Kids Choice Awards in which she has more than one nomination each at.
edit
also sometime between March 16th and 24th she will be shown as a mentor on The Voice which was taped awhile back. not sure if her songs will be played or performed during those episodes though.

My money is on them releasing DFH only because of the austrailian release and how well it's done on iTunes, but if they truly filmed a video for "title", then equal money is on that. ,I wouldn't mind either but title gets the nod from me. If they break it up I would hope they would release bang dem sticks, but like I'm gonna love you is a great song. I really don't think they can screw up the next release, I think whatever they choose will out perform this, Which will be hard to do because this is big,
She also has that charlie puth collab which i think is being released as a single.
